[RBW] Re: Tip for Riv owners with slipping seatposts!
Seems like the complaints about slipping seatposts are adding up here on the forum. I think anyone who has a slipping seatpost should to call RBW and tell them to help RBW so that they can take steps to ensure future QC with their suppliers/builders. I would find it unacceptable to have to rig my seatpost to work because the seat tube is not the proper size at these frame price points. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Re: Tip for Riv owners with slipping seatposts!
Here is a little tidbit that people miss on their rivs regarding a slipping seatpost. When they produce the frames, the Seat lug has a tab that connects the slot in the lug together and keeps it from deforming when the frame is brazed up. In the finish work before paint, they go through and remove this material so the slot in the lug can function as intended. On occasion when they complete this process, they don't quite remove enough material and it can prevent the lug from clamping down correctly on the seatpost because there is material in the slot of the lug that creates interference. If you take a file/dremel/some device that can remover material and clean the slot in the lug up or even make it a little wider, you can genarally fix the problem without resorting to chemical binders. I have done this on a few Riv frames and it has always fixed the issue. Check out the photo I have attached that shows a raw lug. You will see what I speak of. [RBW] Re: Tip for Riv owners with slipping seatposts!
Thanks for this Mark. I've had issues with the Nitto S-83 slipping in my Sam. I removed it, cleaned all the grease off it and the seat tube and used denatured alcohol to clean any frame saver from the top portion of the seat tube. Then I applies a thin layer of anti-seize to the post. No slipping issues since then. [RBW] Re: Tip for Riv owners with slipping seatposts!
I would like to add not to use the carbon paste stuff if you don't need it. It scratched the heck out of one of my seatposts and made it more difficult to remove. Its also hard to clean the grit back out. I've never had a seatpost slipping problem but I weigh 140lbs. -Dave On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 3:44:33 PM UTC-5, Mark Reimer wrote: > > I've read many times on this forum that some Riv owners find their seat > posts to slip down. This hits me as a rather unorthodox solution to a common problem. Your post is probably slipping because it's slightly undersized. I have had good luck using carbon fiber assembly paste in such situations (also for slipping stems). --Metin On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 12:44:33 PM UTC-8, Mark Reimer wrote: > > I've read many times on this forum that some Riv owners find their seat > posts to slip down.
