2023-01-12 Thread maxcr
I had the Sim Works co-misirlou bar on my AHH on a short stem and liked it
a lot: https://www.sim.works/products/co-misirlou-bar

>From the site:
Material :Heat Treated Aluminium
Width :390, 410, 430, 450mm (center - center at ends)
Center diam. :26.0mm
Bar diam. :23.8mm
Reach :85mm
Drop :140mm
Color :High-polished Silver & Gloss Black

Another option I had considered: Dajia Cycleworks Shallow Drop Handlebar
but a quick google search didn't seem to result in places where you can get
it.

[RBW] Re: Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

2023-01-12 Thread George Schick
Patrick - are you spec'ing a 31.8 clamp size because you're going to use
the bars with possibly a threadless stem with a 4-bolt bar clamp? If so,
it's too bad that you don't want an anatomic bar because the one fits all
of your other criteria better than some of the other recommendations is the
the Ritchey BioMax II. It has very flat ramps at the end of which the
brake levers can be installed so as to allow a perfectly straight
transition from the bar flats to the brake hoods. It also has a very
shallow drop - just about everything you're looking for except the ergo
bend.

I have eyeballed the recommended Highway One bars from time to time because
they, too, are shorter reach and have flatter ramps and shallower drops,
but I don't understand why the drops extend so far back toward the rider -
seems excessive. I suppose one could cut these shorter to suit an
individual preference...

Anyway, here's a look at the Ritchey bars, FYI. They are ugly, I'll give
you that, but I've never ridden a more comfortable road bar.

Thanks Jeremy and Aaron; both bars are in the running. I still favor the
Specialized Hover bar for its 15 mm rise, but any of these with 31.8 mm
clamp would work.

Soma hwy 1 is another good (cheap) option in 26 and 31.8. I use them and like
them but agree there is no place between the tops and hoods.

Drop: 130mm
Reach: 75mm

Fully on the brake lever hoods is about the only hand position they offer in
that region. I recently used some for about a year before swapping for the VO

also longer reach. I liked the angle and position of the drops on the Cowbells

Re: [RBW] Re: Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

2023-01-11 Thread Jeremy Till
The Salsa Cowbell is the shortest drop bar I've found (and used) at 68mm
reach. Contemporary "short and shallow" type hooks. If you're used to any
kind of real estate behind the brake lever, however, you might find these
lacking. Fully on the brake lever hoods is about the only hand position
they offer in that region. I recently used some for about a year before
swapping for the VO "Nouveau Randonneur," which has significantly more room
behind the hoods but is also longer reach. I liked the angle and position
of the drops on the Cowbells better, though.

Re: [RBW] Re: Very short reach drop bar, not too wide, gives a relatively normal hood position, and has anormal (not anatomic) bend?

2023-01-11 Thread Patrick Moore
Thank you, Elizabeth; both those look very possible -- and yes, I should
have mentioned that I do want a 31.8mm clamp area.

The Specialized website also showed these with a 15 mm rise: perhaps even
better:
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/hover-alloy-handlebars--15mm-rise-plus-flare/p/155205?color=231077-155205=21018-3044

I suppose all of these have 128 mm -- 130 mm drop; then the Hover with the
15 mm rise is even better with a net 115 mm drop. Excellent.

Nick: Thanks for referring the Fairweather, but the 2 Specialized bars suit
better.

2023-01-11 Thread Nick Payne
The Nitto Fairweather M174AA bar has 75mm reach, and comes in widths from
380mm to 460mm. 25.4mm clamp diameter.

2023-01-11 Thread Elisabeth Sherwood
As long as you don't mind a 31.8mm clamp area and a black finish, both
Specialized's Shallow Bend handlebar and Zipp's 70 Ergo bars have a darn
short reach and are super comfortable. (Specialized has a round top; Zipp
has a slightly flatter top...) The Zipps have a 70mm reach; Specialized's
is either the same, or 75mm...

I'm linking to the base-price versions...

If you're looking for a silver finish and a 26.0 clamp area, the only thing
I've found to be nice is the Soma Hwy One... Would love to hear of others!

2023-01-11 Thread Andrew Turner
I too would be curious about a bar like this, specifically with a 26.0 or
25.4 clamp size. If 31.8 isn't a buzzkill for you, I have nothing but good
things to say about Ritchey's Evocurve handlebar. Quite comfy.
