[RBW] Re: WAS: The Bleriot Build NOW: Bleriot Sizing

2010-06-16 Thread EricP
When I test rode a 61 Bleriot versus a Kogswell, the Kogswell felt
bigger at the time. Hence my purchase of that bike instead. Although
did love the look of the Bleriot.

Then again - Esteban has that Kogswell as I never could get totally
comfortable on it. Probably could have on the Bleriot. Oh well,
another opportunity wasted.

The Bob Brown custom [what I call BBC#1 to differentiate from my

sprite and nimble in its current setup, has a geometry that no longer
can really be altered through components and adjustments to suit my

I am stripping it down to just frame fork and packing it away.  I'll
never sell it [how could I?] but I am of the mind that it is time to

After quite a bit of thinking, and then talking with my wife, it's
time to pack it away... but I am excited about what's next.  And
what's next for me is personally very big... and I'll be needing a
bike that can take me into this new chapter.

Made myself two basic promises at the start of all this: No.1 is
intact and held close to heart, and accomplished  maintained daily;
No.2, well that one... it's time to start paying up on that one

I should have said though I would like to have a Sam, too.

The Bleriot is set up as a fast-ish bike with drops. Would love a Sam
with cantis, albatross/mustache, bigger tires, and racks for touring/

Not gonna happen this year..but maybe in '11.

No fireplace, for that matter-we are renters and the closest we've
come to a fireplace is our current house here in Portland, OR-which
has a wood burning stove in the living room that doesn't work!, but...

earlier today I was getting ready to dismantle my bike, couldn't, rode
it one last time, and then met my girls for caffe.

My wife, Amy, then told me she had a plan, We will pack it away, but
when we get moved and someday settle down for good... the frameset
gets hung on the wall, or over a fireplace.

Ironic...
So, you and her must be thinking alike.

[RBW] Re: WAS: The Bleriot Build NOW: Bleriot Sizing

2010-06-12 Thread Jim Thill - Hiawatha Cyclery
I'm 5'8 on a good day, 85 cm pbh, and have always been most
comfortable on 58-59 cm Riv-proportioned bikes. Early in my bike
career, the bike fitting guru at the shop where I was working
expressed shock and dismay that I would ride such a large frame. He
suggested that I'd be a better fit on a 52 cm bike. I tried several in
that size, which was high comedy: knees nearly hitting the bars, etc.

On the other hand, with the expanded geo of the Hillbornes, I could
be happy with either a 52 or a 56.
