Get the SKSs from Riv, or even better, the SKS fenders with Berthoud
aluminum stays from Peter White. I have them on my Sam, love them:

The 42mm fit great over Jack Browns. Lighter, longer, cleaner looking,
no chance of snagging anything on the uncut SKS stays, and only
marginally more expenive. Easier to install, too, if you were
considering cutting the SKS stays (Aluminum so much easier to cut than
stainless steel). A win/win/win. Don't know why Riv doesn't stock
 them.

the sks/berthouds from peter white have been back ordered for months.

Believe me, I'd like to get a pair.

Bowing to pressure, I now have fenders on the Roadeo, ensuring that
not a drop of rain will fall on me. And I'm happy. I can stop worrying
(not that I was very worried, I ride a lot so I know I'll be fine) and
look forward to the fun of the ride.

The bike shop tried to sell me those imitation fenders. I was not fooled.

I strongly second this, with a warning. Don't be tempted to fall in
with some people who are just a bit faster than your comfort zone. My
first 200K I did that, in a 30-40mph headwind, and it blew me up
 pretty spectacularly.

No telling how easy finding someone who rides at your speed might be,
though. It took me from 1974 until 2010, riding at least one century
almost every one of those years and 6 or 7 the past 2 years, for me to
find someone who was riding at the same speed I was for more than 0.3 mi
mi or so on a 100 mi or longer ride. I'd totally given up on the idea
and never expected it to ever happen.

Any iPhone users who ride brevets? I'm interested in knowing what GPS / mapping
app/site you use. Also what kind of mount for the device.

between touring and centuries, you have plenty of experience.  there's
no magic about a randonee, so just be confident, don't overthink

you're on home turf too and that's a big advantage, especially if you
know where the controls/services are.  if you don't know, find out
what will be open along the route - a good cup of coffee or some real
food is a wonderful thing on a long bike ride.  try to limit your
stops to about 15 mins - time spent at controls/rest stops adds up.
finally, don't overpack - weather can complicate things, but you don't
need to carry much for a 200k that has ample services along the route.

What applications are you using on the iPhone? I have a similar mount on
one bike and was curious if there was a decent application for bike
computer use and gps use on the bike.
