Re: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
I have an AHH w/ the Nitto rack and Acorn rando bag. Great combo. Very useful but also won't allow you to over pack! I think it is a great choice! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
I have a Nitto front rack and Bertoud decaleur. In the winter or when I want to maximize cargo space, I use a tall rando bag. When I want minimal storage, I'm very, very happy with a Sackville small trunk up front - I think it's a great bag. For me, my rear rack is for panniers and what I may want to strap on top. Re: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
I like the idea of a rando bag on a small nitto I think.. thanks all. Matches what I would do. If I am riding with only one rack, prefer front to back. Easy to add a saddle bag if you need a little more space. Of course bike geometry makes a difference. My road bike with Italian '80s geometry does not like any sort of weight up front. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. RE: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
I know your desire to not have more than one rack. I use a Mark's in front and R-14 in back. Mostly there is a Wald medium in front that carries a Shopsack, occasionally my Carradice Barley strapped onto the basket in front, or a rando bag without basket. The back usually sports an S'ville medium, but occasionally has the Carradice or smaller saddlebag. Lots of options, little discernible disadvantage to using 2 modest-sized racks, and the racks make for nice bling. Also get to make use of all the fork and seats that fittings. Good luck! Re: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
I've gone back and forth between saddlebags and panniers so often that I must have lost hundreds of $$ by buying each dear and selling off cheap. I've tried: Nelson Longflap (many) Nelson shortflap Nelson Lowsaddle (1) Camper Longflap (two) Juniors (4-5 -- have one now) Adam (1) Hoss (1) Sackville Medium (1) I love saddlebags when they require no rear rack; hell, I like them BECAUSE they require no rear rack (I used the Hoss on the Ken Rogers tricycle where it sat between the wheels and thus did not require support to keep it above a wheel). BUT!!! None of the above held as much in volume or weight as I can get into two good-sized panniers. I hear that the Sackville Large is huge-issimo, but it still is short of a pair of Packer Pluses at 2451 ci the pair, or a pair of Banjo Bros Market Panniers at 3K ci the pair -- stuffed the S L handles 1984 ci, which is close to the pair of Packer Pluses but not quite there. In the Banjos I've carried, at the same time, a medium watermelon, a 12 pak of diet Root Beer (not for me, man!), a coupla bottles of wine, and miscellaneous food items and mail -- hit 50 lb once. Now if I had a bike that I wanted to carry only moderate loads -- say commuting, and never groceries -- I'd have stuck with the S-Med which, to my mind is the Ne Plus Ultra and Per Magnitudinem Rationabilem Ad Astra Et Beatitudinem of all saddlebag-kind, but it just won't handle my grocery loads. And if I have a rack, then I figger i'll use panniers that I can switch between one, small, say the Ortlieb Packer Sport at 900 ci, to the mega-sized pair of Market Panniers at 3K ci. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. RE: [RBW] Re: front or rear rack?
The Sackville Saddlesack Large is huge - and the loading is very easy and practical. It's true it needs a rack, so that you COULD run panniers. But it's just SO easy to load, and it feels like it will handle anything... If you like the Medium, you'll LOVE the Large.
