Re: [RBW] Re: Cheviot bridge placement aka: adventures in fender installation
It is also interesting that the mounting boss on the seatstay bridge faces the axle. This is ideal for metal fenders, but not for SKS and other plastic fenders. I've mounted SKS in this configuration and they have cracked. Now, I glue a piece of an old fender inside the real fender to make a gusset. Then, I drill a hole in the right spot and add some fender washers. This works great and eliminates that junky metal clamp. Maybe that's what Rivendell was after... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Yeah, you guys might be right-- or the truth is likely somewhere in between. Either way, I still have the front install to go … and to my eye it looks like it's going to need some similar tweaking as well. Will post up the finished masterpiece in time … -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: Cheviot bridge placement aka: adventures in fender installation
For a long time I've preferred to bolt my rear fenders directly to the seatstay bridge, where my frames have this sort of threaded hole. I place a wide, thin washer -- fender washer? -- between head of bolt and inside of fender, and I've had no problems, even with a lot of dirt riding with fat fenders, using both SKS and PB fenders. That said, I think the PBs are sturdier. On Tue, Jul 21, 2015 at 9:28 AM, Ginz theg...@gmail.com wrote: It is also interesting that the mounting boss on the seatstay bridge faces the axle. Re: [RBW] Re: Cheviot bridge placement aka: adventures in fender installation
This is a common design defect with Rivendell bicycles. Not all models have it, but some have it in abundance. I think it's evidence of Riv's lack of serious concern about fenders -- which, after all, in Cali are a sometime thing. - Original Message - From: Bill Lindsay tapebu...@gmail.com To: rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, July 21, 2015 4:18:11 AM Subject: [RBW] Re: Cheviot bridge placement aka: adventures in fender installation It's very unlikely Grant has a good reason why the fender mounting points are superior placed the way they are on your bike. Consider that flaw as part of your bike's personality. If you can't stand it or feel cheated by this flaw, call Rivendell and tell them what it will take to make you happy. Very likely they will do it. My best guess at an explanation is that the supplier kind of goofed, and RBW probably elected to take the shipment. They do need to keep the doors open, after all. Rivs vendors, like many humans, are imperfect. I'm sure Riv did its best, and will do whatever is required to make sure you like your Cheviot. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
