Re: [RBW] Re: Helmet recommendations

2014-08-19 Thread Tim Gavin
Like you, I have a big noggin. Like you, I picked up a cheap Bell helmet
at my LBS. I got the XLV, which is what they had.

It's been a good helmet for almost a year. However, the adjustable pads at
the crown are simply falling apart. The velcro has separated from the
fuzzy cloth padding.

You get what you pay for, obviously. A good cheap helmet is still a cheap
helmet. Keep an eye on those pads, hopefully they're more substantial in
the one you bought.

I'm pretty tempted to try one of the Bern helmets; my girlfriend has one
and loves it.

Re: [RBW] Re: Helmet recommendations

2014-08-18 Thread Goshen Peter
i use the Giro Bishop and can say it was nice to finally wear a helment
that fit my fat head. Nice and light, big enough vents to give me vent
shaped sunburn spots on my bald head when i forget to use sunscreen.

Re: [RBW] Re: Helmet recommendations

2014-08-17 Thread Lyle Bogart
Hey Joe,

Hope you're mending well from the crash. . .

This is not the least expensive helmet, but also not the priciest:

http://bernunlimited.com/shop/bike/allston-440.html

I have one. It's very light, very well ventilated, has removable liners
(general, summer, winter) and the visor is useful in the rain or when the
sun is getting low.

Good luck and Cheers!

lyle
