Re: [RBW] daily post ur riv

2021-04-12 Thread Bones
Brendonoid, thanks. I've only had it for a few months now but so far I am
enjoying it. I wanted something a bit different from my other bikes, and
I'd never ridden a rando-ish bike before. I use it primarily as my work
commuter. I carry it up and down stairs when I get to work so it checked a
lot of boxes for me: it is smaller and leaner than the Hillborne I was
using, front rack-able, fender-able with decent tire clearances, and has a
threaded headset. It feels plenty quick, comfortable with the albatrosses
and it's fun to ride.

Philip -- They look to me like Klean Kanteen Reflect water bottles with
bamboo lids. With the rings removed. Could be mistaken.

By the way, I enjoy removing the silkscreened labels from my Klean Kanteen
bottles with a ScotchBrite pad. Most logos bum me out. Call me Cayce

Thanks, Patrick. It was definitely an adventure especially when I spooked

The last year here in Kentucky it seems like it has rained constantly.
We've had an abnormally wet time of it.

Re: [RBW] daily post ur riv

2020-07-14 Thread christian poppell
Hi Patrick,

Tires are 35mm. 38mm tires fit but the pinch point is between the top of
the tire and the underside of the brake (Shimano BR-6500).

Saddle to bar drop is almost nil. I'd prefer around 3 cm as its hard to
stay on the hoods while climbing out of the saddle.

Two curious things about the bike are the placement of the pump peg and the
lack of a chain hanger. Its almost like the pump peg was placed with a
level top tube in mind. There's about 1cm of a gap between the top of the
pump and the bottom of the top tube. The rear seat stay also lacks a chain
hanger which I prefer when taking the rear wheel out.

Still getting used to the bike and dialing everything in. Indexing has been
a slight pain up front with a modern derailer and TA rings. If I had an
extra derailer, the front would be friction on the downtube. It works OK
for now though. Still getting everything sorted out.

Patrick, that Matthews is a nice bike and I'm sure with those wide tire's
its well suited to your area. Those 60mm tires would still be fun around
here in the hard packed fire roads.

No, it's the Spank Flare bar that Analog sells
https://www.analogcycles.com/product/spank-flare-25-degree-bars/
unique in that its 31.8mm around all the way across the flats , from the
clamp area until the the bends ...really comfortable on the hands.

Thanks, Tom. I'm wasting some of the utility of that particular rack
with that setup (the mousetrap basically), but if I can make it a
quick on/off while making it still appear solidly "on" for would-be
metal scrappers, then it's a winner. I have a rear light attached to
it, pump, and pannier rails, so I don't want to swap it out for a
simpler rack at this point.

Beautiful bike. The solid rear dropout differs from the later Rams which have
a window and the lug set is pointed instead of rounded as on later bikes. Ooh
that color!

2019-02-11 Thread Don Compton
Evan,
Thanks for posting. That is a beautiful bike. I used to have a 60cm Ram and
rode a lot of long rides on it. Rams are the best.

Re: [RBW] daily post ur riv

2019-02-07 Thread Collin A
Eric,

They are MAP Ahearne 610 bars, great for corralling the bike on the
downhills, but not too many hand positions to offer for really long rides.
I always find myself needing an extra inch or so on the ends too, so I
think a pair of wavies might fit the bill better...I need to head to riv HQ
soon and give them a good test ride.

Cheers,
Collin
