[TANKS] Re: Rubber for Wheels

2010-01-04 Thread Cold comfort
Here is another suggestion. Use liquid electrical tape. It brushes on
and leaves a smooth rubbery surface and can be built up with several
coats. I accidentally spilled some on the edge of my work bench and it
poured into a tray, instead of trying to wipe it out I left it to
harden and then just pop it out. Well it hardened in a couple of days,
it was half an inch thick and it will not come off the plastic tray,
so it made a great field test as to what is capable with the stuff.

You could cast rubber tires out of silicon or urethane, smoothon.com

Mark,

I had this stuff bookmarked as suitable for treadmill belt:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370190438210&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Also, you could make the suspension arms, etc. and just bolt them to the
chassis. Later you could add the fully articulated parts.

Re: [TANKS] 2060 Attachment Chain Search

2010-01-04 Thread Derek Engelhaupt
Sorry, been up north ice fishing since Wednesday and just got back. I
haven't
had any luck as of yet. I'm thinking at this point that I will put the
2060 chain
from my Sturmtiger on the KV-2 and make my old Sturmtiger tracks reliable.
Now that I have the metal lathe I have a few more options to modify the
idlers
and sprockets for meshing with my guide teeth. I'm going to eliminate the
50
pitch sprockets on my Sturmtiger and run it with the guide teeth on the
outside
of the drive sprockets and idler. Hopefully that will keep the tracks on.

A friend of mine suggested the rubber from bungee cords. I think that could be
done with glue and then a little heat to seal the seam.

Hi all,

I nearly have the suspension done for the Sherman. I need to get rubber for
the wheels. The wheels are 2.75" in diameter and 1.25" in width. I would love
to get an elastic band so the rubber would be seamless, but have had no luck
finding such. If any of you have ideas, let me know.

Price is the first and last thing I think about ... I'm currently in the
middle of the process (prototype, design, testing, manufacturing) so I
won't know for sure until the actual boards are laid out. My target all
along has been dual-motor control for less than $100 and I now know that

Two words, there: Nylon Washers. Won't be very visible even in the
pix, but should eliminate any such wear issues.

That's a stunningly simple and elegant suspension system, I must say.
Of course, you'll want much stiffer springs on the first and last
bogies.

There are lots of 1/16 scale metal track sets available on ebay depending on
what tank you want to make and some of the upgraders also then resell the
plastic tracks back onto ebay usually for about $25 aussie I put metal
tracks and metal gear boxes with larger motors on mt tiger tank but the
running time dropped from about 30 minutes to about 10 minutes so a battery
upgrade is needed but I have not bothered.

Re: [TANKS] tracks

2010-01-04 Thread Peter Pišljar
ah i see .

hmmm, ok so he's making the track stay at its place with "double wheels" and
the thingie on the tracks that goes in this gap between the two wheels
seems i'll have to re-do my drive-wheels as they are to thin for this type

something like this looks nice
http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/track-systems/42PlasticPerformance-large.jpg
so maybe combining the tyng build method with the hold-in-place style of
this one would be nice.

what kind of tank is it hard to say, its not supposed to be combat tank
(there wont be any airsoft/poaintball equipment in it)
basicly its jsut a project to learn new stuff, i'm trying to make simple UV.
my tank has whole computer onboard (900mhz, 256mb ram, 8gb usb drive, wifi,
umts), a bounch of sensors (accel, gps, mic, cam, distance)
and will be able to move on its own, or radio controled from my laptop.
(tank will is accesible everywhere you have a phone signal, well if signal
is bad, you cant have a ž
live video, but you can still give commands to your tank.)

currently i'm only testing all the stuff, so my tank doesnt have a look
realy, but once i'm done with this part (just the tracks left),
i'm getting a new hull from aluminium, friend will cut it for me on laser,
so then i'll decide how do i want my tank to look like.

Prototyped a suspension system today.
It has a 1 inch thick aluminum bar that all boggies will be built on.
The drive sprocket, rear sprocket, and track tensioning system will also mount
on this bar.
It will be a complete track system that will bolt to the outside of the hull.

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z65/mm123521/HPIM0699.jpg

The boggie has 1.3 inch travel and a compressed wheel pressure of 14 pounds.
There are positive travel stops (up and down) built into the 1 inch bar.
The lever bar is pivoted on a shoulder bolt, and a 3/8 inch shoulder bolt is
the wheel axle.
The lever bar is 3/4 X 5/8 X 5 inch aluminum.
The springs are captive in pockets on both sides.
