If your paintball gun is wound up to the point when it is capable of
blowing the body (including several pounds of lead-acid batter) off
it's velcro fastenings then I for one will be calling for the referee.

the bonnet or decking off then it just allows the gunner in question
to punch the air and yell woo-hoo!
This feature will make Neil happy.

According to the rules, vehicles shouldn't get any closer to each
other than 5'. However, in the heat of battle anything can happen so I
thought I'd better test for the worst case scenario. Since it
survived, I'm reasonably happy with it.

As fot the state of my wheelie-bin, all I can do is quote the Iron

You said your test paintball shots were from 1 away.  I haven't been
to an actual battle yet (not from lack of trying), but I think that
tanks and other vehicles shooting at your vehicle will be farther
away than 1.  Did you test it from different distances like 5' and
20'?   Again, I have a lack of experience, but if an enemy vehicle
gets within 2 or less, you should probably move yours- maybe even
 sooner.

Also, your pictures can be used as evidence that you've defaced
government property- in this case painted grafitti on
municipality-owned waste collection bins.  For a small fee, I won't
 turn you in.
 Bill

P.S. Pz38(t) now has its required big red handled power cut off
switch sticking out the back.   I suppose it is more standard and
safer, but it looks like a wind-up toy now.

I've done a bit more work on the Morris and a little bit of testing
 too.

The bodywork was tested a few weeks ago by having Phil Palmer's Hetzer
fire a round into it at a range of a little under 1.

The results were a little disappointing. Although the foamcore /
polyethelyne sheet composite construction survived the strike, the
aluminium foil outer layer was wrinkled and the inner bulkhead
slightly deformed. Paintball resistant rather than paintball proof
would be the honest way of describing it. That said, replacement of
damaged sections can be done in a few minutes with no tools more
complex than an exacto knife and a hot glue gun. Anyway, here are a
few pictures of her current condition.

[TANKS] Saw blade recommendations

2011-11-11 Thread Clark Ward Jr
As I get closer to having to use the tracks... I am getting ready to
cut a whole lot of 1/8 thick 3/4 x 3/4 aluminum angle pieces to use
as track guides on the M60*. I have a mitersaw and a bandsaw, and I
can use either for this. Do any of the cognoscenti have
recommendations on a particular type of blade for either that would be
good to use?

*Yes, the M60. I was working on the M113, but I was slow, and I was
reminded that I have the M60 hull and 2 completed 4 wide hinge tracks
(minus aforementioned guides), waiting to go. So now I have
roadwheels and suspension arms to add to that. So the M60 is the
quickest route to a rolling tank at this point. And it'll have 4
wide hinge tracks a la KTT :)

Re: [TANKS] Saw blade recommendations

2011-11-11 Thread Amir Tahvildaran
I've cut flat aluminum on my table saw. I think the general advice is
wood tools can cut aluminum but go slow, carbide tipped blades are
usually recommended. I'd be nervous to cut angle on a table saw for
some reason.

I have the same question about the bandsaw - I have a delta bandsaw
and I got the impression from reading the blade options that it only
wants to cut wood. Should I not put a metal cutting blade on it?

My Lowe's had a grand total of one bandsaw blade, sized for a portable
saw. Despite the fact that they had no portable saws for sale. So I
have ordered a blade, should get here in time for next weekend to be
the track-finishing party. I just finished drilling the holes in my
suspension arms and bolting the roadwheels to them. The rest of this
weekend is putting in the track tensioner and the drive stuff, and
then posing it with the tracks kind-of on so I can post a pic.
