Although we are loathe to admit that Frank Fearless Leader Pittelli is

spy shown in prior photos is *not* the General. DNA samples swabbed
from the 2015 model Bass-O-Matic clearly identified the individual as
Paul Crazy Ivan Pittelli, illegitimate son of super-spies Boris Badenov
and Natasha Fatale. Crack members of the Anvilus Surveillance Service
(ASS) were able to provide the attached photo of Boris, Natasha and
Fearless Leader practicing with an IED similar to the one planted by
Crazy Ivan. Unfortunately the ASS crack team was not able to
photograph the shadowy John Mr.Big Pittelli before he left for casinos
in Atlantic City. Forensic inspection of the IED planted on the old gas
grill by Crazy Ivan identified numerous components fabricated at the
Tri-Pact training camp for Local 12 of the Villains, Thieves, and Scoundrels

We need your help. All RC tank patriots are requested to muster north
of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and ambush the armed VTSU aggressors
from Pottsylvania. Grilled moose and squirrel will be served for lunch.

Fellow tankers,

Has anyone tried Mr. Emergency rubber snow and mud track from WalMart ?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mr.-Emergency-28-Rubber-Snow-and-Mud-Track/33651244

It is 28 inches long by 2 inches wide and costs $30.

Good news
Most 1/6 scale tanks need about 6 feet of track per side. If we could
find some way to join three together, we could have rubber track for
$90 per side.

Bad news
It is narrow and we would probably need to add guide horns or use
toothed road wheels to prevent throwing track during skid turns.

Joe

Looks to be a high voltage version of the ones Will and Loic are using. The

install if I only had to use 2 packs instead of 4.

Will said he was running them and gets almost an hour's run time out of them.
I was looking at them for the KV-2 which is probably bigger and heavier than
his tank. My question would be how do you know how far to drain them without
damage? Are there a bunch of safety precautions for using these batteries that
I need to know about?

Will,

I have purchased x4 of the LiPo batteries your suggested with the charger. I’m
trying to replace:

X2 12V 18 Ahr lead batteries in series – 24V 18Ahr – weight 23.2 lbs

X4 11.1V 5Ahr Li-Poly x2 series/parallel – 22.2V 10Ahr – weight 3.5 lbs

The weight saving would be almost 20 lbs! Not sure what the life or performance
difference would be?

Could you help me setting them up and contact me offline at

I'm going to assume it plugs into the balancing port on the battery pack? Do
you need one for each pack or will it work for all the packs once they are
wired up in series/parallel? Sorry for all the questions. Never dealt with
anything, but NiCd or lead acid batteries.

Could you help me setting them up and contact me offline at

[TANKS] Lipo's

2014-05-25 Thread 'Will Montgomery' via R/C Tank Combat

These lipo`s look like a wonderful power solution ,inexpensive and lightweight.
do you run them in pairs giving you half hour @ 22.2v / pair ? Yes two in
parallel and two in series 22.2V 10 amps.

What is the C in- Discharge: 20C Constant / 30C Burst ? 20 times capacity
so discharge 100 constant 120 amps burst.

Is C the new letter for Amp , or am I missing something ?capacity

Yes, you can only charge at a max of 10 amps, and you should charge at a lot
less. Lixx need a smart charger of some sort, they are very sensitive to
overcharge, undervoltage, charge too fast, cell balance being off etc etc.
Thats the big downside of lithium batteries...

Neil,
There are many types of lithium based batteries that have a good price tag.
My favorite are LiFePo4 cells also known as just LiFe cells. They have a
3.2-3.4v operating voltage. Look at batteryspace.com to get an idea of the
various capacities and discharge rates available. Also there is a type of LiFe
cell known as a Headway cell it is a blue cylinder. They tend to have higher
discharge ratings than the prismatic bricks. LiFe cells are less voltage,
temperature, moisture, and impact sensitive than other lithium types.

LiPo cells tend to have the best discharge rates and capacities for their
weight.

So does this mean although this battery can discharge @ 100 amps it can only
take 10 amps whilst charging ?

I have calculated that this battery gives you 12.5 ah / kg whilst SLA gives
only around 2.6 ah / kg.
A staggering difference of 5 times more ah for the same weight at a very
similar voltage,
and that's not taking into account the fact that an 18 ah SLA doesn't provide
18 ah.

i like this battery ..

Hetzer T010 used the following drive system during
recent battles on May 18.

two Makita drill motors
two 12V 18Ah batteries wired in series (24V)
two Talons - Coast (not Brake) setting, no cooling fans
IMX-1 mixer

Bad news - The Hetzer fried two original Talons (not SR) during the
second sortie of the first battle (Defend the Town). The IMX-1 was
not damaged.

Air temperature was not hot and the failure occurred early in the
second sortie with about 20 minute break between sorties.
Consequently, I do not believe that it was a thermal failure.

The failure did occur while performing rapid reversal steering
maneuvers in very tall grass. The failure was probably due
to impedance reversal spikes.

Good news - It only required about 20 minutes to replace the dead
Talons with two new Talon SRs.

The new Talons SRs did not fry during the second battle (Fox and
Hounds).

Just about to show off my electronic`s ignorance again. I find there are
various types of diodes. Im hoping Schottky diodes will be suitable as I`ve
seen this :-

if not , what from this list of diodes would be most suitable ? :-

Just noticed this. The cast armor gun mounting of the Hetzer sits in a cutout
in the 60mm thick front plate. The flanged section that holds this assembly in
place (marked in red in the photo) appears to be well in excess of 10mm in
thickness. The net effect of this is that the Hetzer's max armor protection is
in excess of 70mm (as defined by Tri-Pact measurement practices). Imagine
that! ;-)

I wonder what Steve wants to build now

Nothing new I'm afraid. The T-70's been shelved for at least a year or more.
The Cromwell is getting rebuilt, with one major improvement, which will be an
updated and highly precise turret rotate. Only other thing I'm working on is
my Mogador fastgun destroyer (worked on it last night). I WILL IF IT KILLS ME,
battle a freakin warship this year!

To current battlers,

It would be cool to develop a database of motor and reduction data for the
current vehicles. If you want to contribute, please provide the motor type and
voltage your running with. If you know the published RPM and torque numbers
for your motors, include those. Include the number of sprockets and tooth
counts in your reduction. If your running v-belts, I'll need the pulley
diameters. Include the diameter of the track drive wheel and thickness of your
tracks (for MPH calculations). I'll enter the data into my spreadsheet

My spreadsheet calculates theoretical outputs based on published motor data.
If you know the measured actual speed of our vehicles. I can include an
efficiency calculation which would be cool.
