Re: [TANKS] Not tanks but an Obscure and Cyptic Aviation Quiz

2013-07-22 Thread Dave D.
Hey Pete,

#17. Got an assist from my wife, and she had clued me in some days ago and I
didn't listen!! She had mentioned Dickens then and I told her it was questions
about (mostly) WW II airplanes... Serves me right, so when she brought it up
again tonight I did a proper investigation... Never question the wife, I
find!! SO, Tiny Tim the ROCKET, I see now... LOL.

Not bad, but 7 is wrong. you need a type of sword and a wandering tribesman
and then you'll get a manufacturer of aero engines!, 8 is the wrong pirate, 10
is more of a language problem, 16 Think my Homerically!, 17 - I thought this
one was easy! Find the quote and you find the Big Rocket! 18 is entirely on the
wrong track. It's another Nickname question. 19 When I say bridge, I don't mean
anything that crosses a gap!

4 - In the carburetor, specifically on the opening to the float bowl. It
limits the rate fuel can slosh into the carb so your engine doesnt flood
during negative Gs.

17 - me 163?

 (1) How many people can you get inside Harry Tate?

 (2) What do you get if you take five from a taurus?

 (3) What snake do you associate with a gannet?

 (5) What links a Bristol to a Dornier?

 (6) What happens if you Spey a Phantom?

 (7) What links a sword with a wandering tribesman?

 (8) What colour was the flying pirate's parrot?

 (9) What sort of musical instrument tells you when to drop your bombs?

Re: [TANKS] Not tanks but an Obscure and Cyptic Aviation Quiz

2013-07-17 Thread isaac goldman
1 - its a two seater, so i assume 2 people

10 - awesome planes that the government lost interest in halfway through,
and a beautiful piece of national heritage was consequently slice in half
and sent ignominiously to the scrap heap? (Its true for avro; the poor
arrow, such a beautiful and iconic Canadian plane. I will never forgive
Diefenbaker for cancelling such a majestic aircraft. That terrible day
forever lives on as Black Friday to Canada's aviation industry.)

15 - The original P51 mustang with its wheezy and underpowered Allison
engines? (thank you British for building the Merlin, thereby showing the
American's how its done. Commonwealth Power!)

Re: [TANKS] Not tanks but an Obscure and Cyptic Aviation Quiz

2013-07-17 Thread Pete Arundel
(1) Correct; There are two seats in an RE8 (RFC nick-name 'Harry Tate')
(4) Correct; Miss Tilly Shilling's orifice may be found in the carb of,
usually, a Merlin and allowed Spitfires and Hurricanes to 'bunt' when
following a diving enemy.
(10) Incorrect but on the right track Keep thinking about the Avro Arrow
and what Dornier and Fiat built . . .
(15) Incorrect. Right idea but wrong time!
(17) Incorrect and not even close ;-)
