RE: [TANKS] Rookie primer

2016-08-10 Thread Derek Engelhaupt
The "v" shapes (chevrons) are used to designate which platoon the tank
belongs to on US vehicles. May be used for the same function in the Israeli
Army. The brits have used the chevrons when they are in joint ops with US
forces. Friend or foe is usually accomplished by CIP (slatted combat
identification panel on the sides of the tank or turret).

RE: [TANKS] Rookie primer

2016-08-10 Thread Loic
No sure if I have a “say” in this discussion since I’m not coming to the
battle, but a very practical and simple system is the VELCRO.

It has a sticky side, and the Velcro hook/loop on the other side. If you put a
dark red/dark blue patch on the 1”x1” Velcro, it can be EASILY removed and
exchanged with the proper color before the battle as the teams are organized.

One on the upper right hull corner, one on the rear. Neither on turrets since
they rotate.

One advantage: no recognition on the sides might slow engagement until IFF is
made (Identification: Friend or Foe). IFF is an actual appendage of real combat.

Another advantage: all units have unit markings. Israelis have V shapes in all
directions. This appendage does not distract from reality

Flags can fall, especially on underbrush, and exchanging flag color can be
cumbersome

Re: [TANKS] Rookie primer

2016-08-10 Thread Caleb Smith
Looks good, Doug. Another way of attaching them is to make a 90* bend with
a loop on the bottom of the music wire. Just slip the loop under a screw on
the tank (everybody has a screw on the top of their tank, right?) and
tighten down. Then you don't have to mess with velcro.

2016-08-10 Thread TyngTech
Flags are easy. Cut up a coat hanger, slap some tape on one end, drill a
3/32" hole somewhere on the model and there you go. FYI, I won't be at the
battle this weekend. My real estate empire needs my attention this
weekend. Hate to miss it.

Re: [TANKS] Rookie primer

2016-08-10 Thread Caleb Smith
1. I like the idea of flags to help newcomers distinguish friend or foe. A
simple flagpole could be easily fabricated for any tank, and the CD could
hand out duck tape flags to members of each team. Any interest in this,
Frank?
2. I don't support the idea of patches or flags to distinguish whether a
tank is still alive or dead. As someone else said, dead battlers usually
make the "I'm dead..I'm dead" chant all the way home to keep from getting
more unnecessary hits. And it's my opinion that most battlers won't take
the time to tell if your patch is on or not before they start shooting. The
enemy only makes a mistake for so long.
Looking forward to meeting you at the battle, Jean, and seeing the SU-76 in
action. The more targe..I mean tanks the better. ;)

And, of course, my personal favorite R/C Tank training video. I think you’ll
get the message.

Subject: [TANKS] Rookie primer

Since we have quite a few new rookies this event, I felt I should share some
footage of some veteran advanced battle techniques.

To set the stage. Game was Capture the Flag. There was an impassable river
between the bases with only 1 river crossing guarded by artillery and hand held
rocket launcher. You had to gain control of them first before you could
venture into the OPFOR area.

We had achieved that goal and had advanced into OPFOR territory. I was engaged
quickly. The OPFOR vehicle already had 2 prior hits, in yellow, on it's side.

His attack is shown in real time, and then in slow motion. All rookies should
practice teasing the opposition by presenting the vulnerable flank and quickly
removing said target as your opponents then wastes shots.

Capture the flag game2015 . Last opponent. Need 4 side hits to kill. Already
has 2 yellow. My hits are in white.
