Re: [RE-wrenches] Schneider tech support AWOL?

2019-04-09 Thread Kevin Pegg
Hi folks,

Thought I'd give an update as to what I have learned in this process. Sandra
Herra reached out to me and has been very useful in clarifying what has been
going on here and helping clear out the backlog. I wasn't impressed when the
first tech asked me to provide photos of the display showing the fault codes on
a failed controller and asked if I had rebooted it.

From what I have gathered, it appears that the Schneider renewable energy tech
support has now gone to a new overseas call centre or some such entity, and
they really dropped the ball in actually letting their techs on the ground (us)
know, or even having this up and running before they shut down the old system.
They know they screwed up.

The first step is to register, which is nothing more complex than entering your
name and address.
https://solar.schneider-electric.com/installer-registration/

Once registered, you will get an email back with the "top secret" phone number
which looks odd as it is an international number, but it does work. Why they
don't have a regular 1-800 who knows. Curious what 011 international calls will
cost us.

The new email is
solar.support@schneider-electric.com

I suggested they put some sort of auto-reply function on
re.techsupp...@schneider-electric.com
to let people know that this address is now ignored.

Hopefully this is smoother sailing, time will tell if they have techs who
actually know the product, or are just reading out of a manual.

Kevin

I went through the Schneider tech online support application process and
received back a curt email that didn't give me access to their tech support
forum and didn't answer any of my questions. After several days of waiting and
sending out emails I finally got the new tech support access number from a
friend. In the meantime I was having an issue with the Xanbus network on a 20kW
stand alone system and my client was losing patience. I'm not sure what glitch
happened that I was not able to get the information that I needed by going
through the Schneider tech support application process. The telephone support
numbers that they sent me in emails as the tech support access numbers were not
even real phone numbers. I talked with others that had the same experience at
that time so I know I wasn't alone in my issues with getting though to tech
support. I'm assuming that Schneider has corrected the issue by now. The guys
at Schneider tech support have been awesome to work with and I'm still
specifying Schneider products for most of my battery based systems.
I didn't know that that number wasn't to be shared as I didn't get any real
information from Schneider regarding the access number. My apologies!
I do agree that it's important to not have our clients call tech support
directly.

William,
If you were to register through the website as the support number and the
website and the representative on here asked, you would have been provided with
the access number, just like the others of us who have followed their requested
procedure.
Having worked the other side of telephone support line, I understand their
attempts to screen calls into installers who they can expect will have a
modicum of system comprehension, and all others in their troubleshooting
attempts.
They further categorize callers by asking for your NABCEP number (if you are so
inclined) which would also aid in identifying a callers level of experience and
comprehension.
Circumventing their system helps no one.

Friends:

I think it unconscionable that Schneider is hiding behind an automated façade.
I am grateful to receive the “secret” number. This poor tech support is
another reason I will not be specifying Schneider.

Thanks Kevin.

Wrenches,

Does anyone know where and if you can still get WEEB-ADR clips? I need 1,900 of

I just replaced a 48V Lithionics battery with a 51V and I saw on their spec
sheet that they do 12V and 24V as well. It seems like a very solid battery and
BMS, but I have limited information on longevity.

Thus I was considering LiFePo4 batteries however I'm having difficulties

So if I'm stuck with AGM's stored indoors what brand would you suggest for a

Hi William

Quick Cable makes two UL Listed lugs both are tin plated. The really heavy one
is the MAGNA Lug and the more common one is the MAX Lug. We distribute both, so
if you want more info call be.

Just wondering if anyone of you have a preference of finish on copper battery
lead eyelets. I have always used tinned. I notice the plain copper are half
the cost. I never really looked into this. Has anyone else?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Plated versus unplated eyelets

2019-04-09 Thread August Goers
Hi William -

I would stick with tin coated copper battery cable lugs. The tin coating
adds corrosion resistance to the copper - this is especially important for
battery connections which already have a tendency to corrode. The ground
lugs we all historically used on our racking systems should have been all
tin coated copper (or now there are some tin coated aluminum) lugs with
stainless hardware for the same reason.
