Re: [RE-wrenches] 24/7 Water pumping

The Sunpumps controller only requires solar panels as DC input. You do not
need a charge controller.

Re: [RE-wrenches] 2nd VFX3648 added to double charger rate

2022-03-20 Thread Kirk Herander
And can't you just wire up the new inverter as a "dumb" battery charger
only? If you don't need to double KW to loads, don't try to stack it, or
connect it to the hub. Just cable it to the batteries, and wire the genny
to it's AC in. NO AC out wiring. When genny is running, it should charge
fine. A last resort.

HI John,

Yes Its my understanding that they are backwards compatible.

So put the newer inverter as master, older as slave should work.

I have operated FX inverters of different firmware in one system (not
FXRs). I was told the newest firmware should be in a lower port but the
system worked more reliably with the newer firmware unit in the higher
port. May be worth experimenting. Good luck.

Is the wiring 120/240 and Series or Parallel stacking? If parallel, one of the
stacking options assumes you have a x-240 transformer and the slave is silent
unless power save is high enough. Pick the parallel that keeps both inverters
on at the same time This is kinda foggy since it has been a while.

I just checked my stock of control boards and just happen to have a
new unopened in the box that is firmware #68, same as the new used inverter
I installed. I guess to be sure Outback wont have any other suggestions, I
will install the new board. I charged the customer enough for the used
inverter to cover a control board. First I will set the newer one as
Master and his older one as slave to see if it makes any difference. In the
description of the stacking configurations, There was no mention of Hub
requirements. I assume with these older inverters the older Hub should be
fine. We ran lots of inverters at SolarFest with the old equipment. I
know we are not supposed to promote things on this list but SolarFest in
Vermont will be in Brandon July 16-17. SolarFest.org

Do you have the proper hub 10.3 installed? And are the jumpers set
correctly? Mate3S? it almost sounds like the slave is set in the Mate not
to charge. And if not plugged into the correct hub port, stuff like this
happens also. And the Mate3 might not work properly with newer inverters,

Re: [RE-wrenches] 2nd VFX3648 added to double charger rate

2022-03-20 Thread John Blittersdorf
Allan,
The new VFXR has updatable firmware through the MATE3 but the old series
has firmware on the control board but not updatable. I have run into this
before but lucked out that both older inverters had the same firmware.

2022-03-20 Thread Sindelar Solar

John,
I've never faced your situation so can't address it directly. However, I
don't think matching firmware requires replacing a control board. Can't
you just update the firmware to the latest for that legacy product using
a Mate3?
The firware for these should be available at

Would it be possible to switch which inverter is the master and have
the newer one recognize the older one.? Otherwise is my only option to
put a new control board in the original inverter? And possibly also in
the new one.  Anyone know what the latest rev or last one was?

[RE-wrenches] 2nd VFX3648 added to double charger rate

2022-03-20 Thread John Blittersdorf
Wrenches, I just added a 2nd VFX3648 stacked as SLAVE L1 to increase
charging of his new eVault 18.5 from 12kw Kohler gen. It connects to the
generator but doesn’t charge. I read in the manual that both inverters
must be the same firmware revision. Once hooked up I found that the added
inverter was rev #68 and the original one rev 61. Would it be possible to
switch which inverter is the master and have the newer one recognize the
older one.? Otherwise is my only option to put a new control board in the
original inverter? And possibly also in the new one. Anyone know what the
