[RE-wrenches] Clearing out equipment

2023-03-02 Thread Christopher Warfel via RE-wrenches
I've begun the process of clearing out my solar inventory as I reach the
age equivalent of a junk yard.  Reclaimed modules with plenty of life
have found homes.  I have quite a few older PV Power (5), Fronius (2)
old non arc fault "new inverters", and all the usual suspects of
miscellaneous equipment. Has anyone ideas on how to distribute them to
interested people?   I don't want any money for them, but pay for
shipping or ferry freight.  I was thinking a community solar project,
but we need new local utility management and board people to achieve
that. Thanks for any advice.  Chris

[RE-wrenches] Inverter bypass

2023-03-02 Thread Kristopher Schmid via RE-wrenches
Hi All,

I have a stand alone system that was upgraded from an FX inverter to a
Radian WITHOUT the companion load center. I would like to add an inverter
bypass circuit to operate the house on generator power. There used to be a
4 slot breaker panel (SqD?) with the rocker switch preventing both breakers
from being in the on position simultaneously. I have not been able to find
it on the interweb. Anyone know of something out there that would meet my
needs?

Re: [RE-wrenches] Inverter bypass

Kris, It was SqD QO403, and it was a 3-pole load center/disconnect, not
4-pole. You may recall that the dual-inverter Trace Power Panels of long
ago used two of these, each one serving as an inverter bypass switch to
one 120V AC leg.

I probably still have one of the old QO boxes on the shelf, but I never
liked them.  Single pole, very tight, and you had to double lug or use a
weird split bolt arrangement with exposed copper out past the breaker.

I started using these 60A T switches from Northern:

Midnite makes small 30A and 60A T switches as well:

Re: [RE-wrenches] Inverter bypass

2023-03-02 Thread Ray Walters via RE-wrenches
Here's a 100 amp version of the Reliance box.  Cheap, lots of room, easy
to wire up, but NEMA 1.

get pricey and hard to source especially for 200 amps?

I probably still have one of the old QO boxes on the shelf, but I
never liked them.  Single pole, very tight, and you had to double
lug or use a weird split bolt arrangement with exposed copper out
past the breaker.

I started using these 60A T switches from Northern:

Midnite makes small 30A and 60A T switches as well:

[RE-wrenches] 60v Inverter?

2023-03-02 Thread Ray Walters via RE-wrenches

Hi all;

I'm putting together a small backup system that will use an electric
motorcycle battery (60 V, 35 AH, Li+) Normal charge voltage is at 67.2v,
so that excludes most inverters I know of. I've found a few from China
that claim 60v and 72v nominal input, but output is listed at 230vac,
and the frequency is not listed at all.  They show universal Euro output
receptacles.and only available straight from China.

Ideally I'd like a unit in the 1500 to 3000 watt range that I could
program the input voltage range, but also the output frequency.  For
other strange musical reasons, I want an inverter (or VFD) that I can
fine tune the frequency output at 120 vac. I'd like something I could
vary the output from 55 to 65 Hz in roughly 0.1 Hz increments. This
could be the same inverter, or a different one.  I want to slow the
frequency of a 1/4 Hp synchronous motor that is in an Hammond organ, so
that I can tune the organ down from A=440 Hz to A =432 Hz to match an
even older piano.Yep, I'm living on the edge..
