Re: [RE-wrenches] Sol-Ark Support

2024-06-05 Thread Lloyd Hoffstatter via RE-wrenches
Hi Howie,

Text from FB user Scott Shadle Sol-Ark owners Information network:

Migration update (edit at 10 am central...my plant is now populating the new
solark app. So...hang in there)

Just had a very nice call with Sol Ark tech support. He suggested that perhaps
my Facebook update would help reduce the huge number of calls they are getting.
I took notes. I don't work for Sol Ark. I have no idea if any of the
following is factual other than it is what the tech support person relayed to
me.

1. The migration has been challenging. They are using a 3rd party entity to
do the work. The did a first test of 100 sites. A second test of 4,000 sites.
At that point they did not have any material problems and attempted a full roll
out of the remaining sites. They had a lot (no definition of "a lot") of sites
that had problems. So, it is accurate that many of you are seeing the
migration but a significant number of others (like me) are not getting
information on either the old pv pro or the new mysolark.

2. Why? He said they believe it has to do with the wifi dongle. I didn't try
to get more specific. Just said that the wifi dongle is not pointing at either
site, so...like my situation...you are not able to see any information inside
any of the apps...old or new. Nor can you access your 15k to do any remote
changes. If you want to make changes you will have to go to the device.

3. Fix and timing? Unknown. He asked that I be patient and give it a week,
but hoped it would be resolved sooner.

4. Is there any steps I the customer can take to make this better. No. It is
all on their side.

5. Data migration. He suggested that the data migration is still an open
topic. I expressed to him that in my emails with the PV Pro tech support they
only allow for you to download one day at a time.oruse their reporting
screens to get summarized information in graphical format (not the actual
data). He said the whole data migration topic is still being worked on by Sol
Ark and they are reaching out to their installers and of course end user
customers to try and layer in more and more functionality on the data reporting
/ data harvesting side of things. The suggestion...without any specifics...was
that the new site will have much more functionality soonand...they can
continue to improve it over time. They did not have that ability with PV Pro.

6. Mobile app. For those not aware, there is a new app (I'm on android and it
was easy to download and put in my plant) mysolark.

He asked that we be patient. Said tech support is getting swamped with calls
and that they (tech support) can't really do anything to help until the 3rd
party company fixes the migration issue(s).

Nice guy. Reasonable responses.

Hopefully this will help some of you who are puzzled by fellow Facebook users
on this board that are having no issues.

I'm going to give it a week.

Best regards

It looks like all the black casings are 12 or 24 Volt.

White 3.8kW @ 48V nom. are either AmpliPhi (with comms.) or SimpliPhi without.
They can't be mixed.

Not sure of the maximum number, but UL 9540 listing up to 3 x BOSS.12 with 12
batteries each.

Thanks everyone, the person I started with a SolArk asked me to call them, so
I've left a message. I'll let everyone know what the determination is.
Bradley raises a good point about shutting down the back up loads panel. We
would like to have an outdoor accessible disconnect switch between the back up
loads panel and the inverter so that can happen more easily for first
responders. I have to go back and understand a few more things and will let
you know. Thanks again. Chris

The issue as I see it is that the Tigo RSS Transmitter and the APsmart
transmitter are both rated to draw up to 800ma. The 12VDC output of the Sol-Ark
inverters is limited to 100ma. Since some have used this successfully I suppose
that means that either these transmitters don't really use more than 100ma, or
the 12VDC output of the Sol-Ark can actually handle more than that, or some
combination of both. If I owned a Sol-Ark I'd test this to see what the answer
is, but alas I do not. I design systems using a 48VDC to 12VDC power supply
(Online Components has a Mean-Well device for a reasonable price, sorry no link
from here) and a fairly rare IMO shutdown button (we have that) that has both
NO and NC contacts. This is needed because to shut down the Sol-Ark inverter
requires a NO contact that closes on initiation which is quite rare in RSD
initiators. And you do still need to shut down the inverter as well as the RSD
devices so that it does not continue to feed voltage back into the PV circuits
(I think). This also shuts down the AC output of the Sol-Ark which tends to
make the inspector happy. Since it also shuts down the inverter, that limits
the battery to its own circuits, does this count as a battery disconnect also??
I'm seeing some inspectors calling out for battery disconnects which is much
more problematic.

I have done quite a few and per solark have always connected in the inverter
with no issues, Now with that connecting to the output side it would do much
the same work until it did not then shut off the modules.

Hi, We are doing our first system with these two devices. The inverter is
SolArk 12P (mutimode) and the Tigo product for RS is the TS4F. Tigo has me a
little bit walking in circles.

I told them that SolArk says not to use the 12VDC RS output terminals for
connecting the transmitter. I gave them the attached drawing which they ask
for, which shows the transmitter connected to a 120VAC/12VDC breaker which they
supply. They told me to wire the 120VAC source to the main service panel so
the array would shut down on loss of power. I told them that is exactly NOTwhat
I wanted to happen as that would stop the battery charging when there is a loss
of utility power. I said I wanted the 120VAC source to be the back up loads
panel. After about a week of calls and emails, I got an email back saying to
use the SolArk 12VDC terminals for RS. I just emailed them a screen shot of
the SolArk manual that says not to do that.

At this point, I am asking anyone on the list to let me know how they wired the
transmitter successfully. Thank you for any guidance, Chris Warfel

Hello Wrenches,

I have an inspector who doesn't like my heavy duty square D disconnect loaded
with 20A Littelfuse FLSR RK5 Littelfuses for use as a OCPD and disconnect on a
PV circuit. I am operating below the 300Vdc rating for this fuse but I'm
having trouble finding documentation that states that this fuse is listed for
use in PV systems.
Does anyone know if these fuses have this listing for PV specifically? Its not
easy to find if they do.
Or perhaps a solar listed fuse designed for this disconnect?

If not, is there another disconnecting device that can work for this? I am
looking closely at the MNPV6-250 DISCO but again, the 300Vdc breakers that come
with this are listed to DC branch circuit protection (UL 489A, IEC / EN
60947-2) not necessarily calling out PV specifically.

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

That means the battery-to-inverter connections will be exposed, unless I find

Do those OB snap-on terminal covers used with the FX series work with the
