[RE-wrenches] OutBack Inverters

2021-05-17 Thread palumbo131m
I am considering swapping in new OutBack inverters into one of my
neighborhoods 24V off grid systems. It now has two FX2524's. The demands on
the system have grown, now a two family home with a 240Vac mini-split for
air conditioning and a 240Vac Grundfos SQ 1/2hp sub pump to be added this
summer to the system. Drilling a well for a back-up to the gravity fed
spring water which has been getting too low during the past few summers.

I'm assuming that I should go with two VFXR3524's.

Will this be a direct swap in as far as having the same wiring setup into an
OutBack Flexware system? And will it work with an older Mate?

Anything else I should know about these OutBack "R" inverters?

Hi dave

You’ll need a new hub and mate 3S.

And check to make sure the main breakers are 250 amp.

Now is a good chance to see if switching to 48V is feasible. Can the battery
bank be easily rewired for 48V and does the existing VOC support 60V or so.
Switching to 48V gives the charge controllers immediately more headroom for
future additional panels that will be needed with the added loads.

I also recommend getting the new mate3s and connecting to OpticsRE. It’s a
great way to see what going with the system over time.

Re: [RE-wrenches] OutBack Inverters

2021-05-17 Thread Tump
The VOC for a 48 VBB is to low for most batteries. IF there is a combiner box
and there is a even # of OCD then I have rewired the DC input ( remove the +
from 1 OCD and connect it to module #2’s negative wire) to increase the DC
input. OR there are a # of higher voltages of charge controllers that make it
easy to reconfigure array input voltages to the CC.
Batteries IF there are 8, 16 six volt batteries then sure.

Re: [RE-wrenches] OutBack Inverters

2021-05-17 Thread Mac Lewis
The "R" inverters have had a persistent issue that the list discussed
recently. You get an error "inverter firmware mismatch". This results in
losing a phase and then can be cleared by power cycling the Mate 3s and
will work ok for a while and then repeat. The latest firmware for the
Mate3s attempts to solve this but we will see...

This has been an ongoing and frustrating issue with the fxr inverters. In
my experience, this doesn't happen with fx inverters, or Radian inverters
at all. Outback tech support had been all over the place on this but I
think, with this latest firmwate release, acknowledge the issue.

Good luck

Dave,
An Alternate solution might be to find two good used VFX3524's. All
circuit boards are available from Zonna if they need repair. I have one if
you could find another somewhere.
Contact me off list if interested.
