Widely available from where?
I have looked off and on and never found any premade signs.
Is there a shelf full of these somewhere? Cause it sure isn't here!

Marco --

I train fire departments around the country in PV safety, and I also
train PV installers in how to train their local fire departments.

As a firefighter myself, the signage I like to see (and should meet NEC
code, and is widely available) is:

DC Disconnect
Warning: Electric Shock Hazard
DO NOT TOUCH TERMINALS
Terminals on both Line and Load sides may be energized in open position
DC VOLTAGE IS ALWAYS PRESENT WHEN SOLAR MODULES ARE EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT

I do NOT like to see the word photovoltaic in signage-- unless
firefighters have been trained, they often don't know what the word
means. Photo-WHAT?

All Wrenches --

I am *very* glad to see this being discussed here. Detailed signage
ranks as the #1 request I hear when I train fire departments in PV
safety. And put signage OUTSIDE the house, too, where the grid meets the
house, which explains what's in the basement and on the roof.

With the low price, quick turnaround and on-line design possibilities of
engraved placards these days, it doesn't cost much to put an entire
power system map on a placard, showing all disconnects and what each
breaker does.

We use PlaqueMaker.com - text can change between plaques and you still get a
quantity discount as long as the size is the same (which is nice for a batch
of 690.53 plaques), reordering is easy.

Re: [RE-wrenches] suggested scary language

2010-05-04 Thread Dan Fink

Roger;

We use, on the 3-phase wind turbine output lines distal of rectifiers
and proximal to wind turbine:

WIND TURBINE SHUT DOWN SWITCH
Danger: 3-phase AC voltage present when wind turbine is spinning
RUN
STOP
(note these are reversed from what the disco box labels say)

And then on the wind turbine input breaker, between rectifiers and
battery bank:

WIND TURBINE DISCONNECT
Shut down wind turbine before opening this breaker

Alternately, for problem customers:
WIND TURBINE AND BALANCE OF SYSTEM SELF DESTRUCT SWITCH
Danger: DC voltage present when wind turbine is spinning
Shut down wind turbine before opening this breaker
