Re: [RedDevils] FOR SA REDS ONLY

As an UK Red exiled in France, I know what it feels like to be so near
(spiritually) but so far (physically).

I've followed your exchanges with the suits at OT for the past 3/4 years and
its history of olive branches and broken promises. Why am I saddened but not
surprised at their antics and your action.

May I wish all your fellow Reds the very best for the future. Your own,
overwhelming personal contribution should be recognised by Reds all over the
world. Keep the faith and it's great news to hear that your branch will
rise, phoenix like, from the flames. As they say in the adverts... the new,
improved model will be available from 2003/2004.

regards

[RedDevils] FOR SA REDS ONLY

2003-01-16 Thread Ethel Sleith
It is with pleasure that I wish to inform you that the Official
Manchester United Supporters Club of Southern Africa is ceasing
operations with immediate effect.

Why is it my pleasure? Because they have done nothing but bleed United
supporters for the past three years. Promises have been made, with few
kept. They are in the process of sending what amounts to a kiss-off
letter to members telling them that membership is being terminated
immediately. They don't even have the courtesy to honour agreements to
the end of the season!

But supporters in South Africa are not being abandoned. The club which
ran under Gary Bailey's chairmanship for over ten years will be
relaunched (with Gary again in the Chairman's seat) in time for the
start of the 2003/4 season and you will find details in due course on
our website at www.manutd.co.za

MUFC SC (SA) will operate as it did before, as a non-profit making
organisation, with branches in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and
Johannesburg.

A few years ago, when the money men at Manchester United sold us out to
commercial interest, I wrote to this list and vented my anger. The
result was intervention from Shareholders United in the form of Michael
Crick who saw to it that our involvement continued. Michael knows he
has my eternal gratitude and I will email him with this news. This is
something we always knew was going to happen. A supporters club should
be run by the fans for the fans. It cannot be seen as a commercial
venture.

Ethel
