Re: RedDot CMS V11.2.2 SmartEdit > Right‑click: Shortcut Menu not working for some pages

2016-02-29 Thread 'Anika Franz' via RedDot CMS Users
Hi Victor,

we had this issue with IE9 and it was cause by -tags in conditional
comments.

OT is adding an onclick event for opening the context menu to the last
opening tag. If you have the tags written in conditional
comments it adds the onclick event to a html tag, which is not used by your
browser because of these comments.

We implemented a solution with rendertags to solve this problem:

Perhaps this helps you to solve the problem.

Kind regards,
Anika

Warning!

2015-01-23 Thread reddot . developer
Hi folks,

fyi please be very carefully with headhunters from the UK

They promise you contracts about 6 months to support their clients and then
break they up for example around after 3-4 months without any reason!

Read the contract very careful !!!

In most of the cases is it allowed to break the contract in 1 week (not
from your side!). They offer this, because they know all the landlords rent
flats with a minimum of 6 months not less!

Don't trust them if you are from another country and it's required to stay
in the UK.

This can happen every season summer, autumn, winter and it's not a joke!

Cheers

Workflow/notification for deleted pages

2013-02-14 Thread RedDot Newbie
Hi,

Is there a way to notify an approver that a page was deleted and it has to
be approved before the page is deleted. As I was going through the workflows,
*Page Deleted* doesnt has the *Release necessary* action.

So i could think of following approaches :

 1. we can deny page deletion rights to everyone and then create a
structural workflow that might require release of disconnected pages. So
the Disconnected pages would become unlinked pages which can be deleted
 using a weekly/Bi-weekly deletion job . In this approach, I wasn't able
*inherit structural workflows to all the following levels
 * in the project tree as we do in content workflows. Any comments on
this ? how this can be acheived ?
 2. we can deny page deletion rights to both authors and approvers and
create a special group with read/delete rights to trusted users who can
 delete the page.

Any comments on this ? best way it can be acheived ?

the pre-execution file size is, I'll have to take a look is there an

Do keyworded lists count?

I'll have to do an audit, but thanks for pointing that out.

Nope the majority of the render tags I use are... which is used to
give smart edit, preview mode a more contestant look. I also don't pre-
execute any RQL code in the templates.

This is the most comment use or render tags for me. I kind of wish
that OpenText had a set of old school block markers for "preview mode"
I find that they are more reliable.

Do random logouts still occur in version 10.x?

Hello,

There's an issue most of us have experiences with CMS where it kicks
all logged in users out while they are working. Does this problem

IE8 and Smart Tree with 9 SP1 (9.0.1.76)

2010-12-27 Thread RedDot in Toronto
We just upgraded to 9 SP1 (9.0.1.76) on our Dev and QA environment, we
are experiencing Smart Tree rendering issues with IE8. I've mucked
around with compatibility mode but that doesn't seem to help much. The
problem is rendering the actual tree itself, sometimes parts of the
tree don't fully render unless you toggle +/- (a few times) on the
section you are trying to expand. For example if you're trying to view
publication logs say there are 8 logs in total sometimes only 4 show
up when you initially click + on the node.

List elements ignoring "Maximum number of pages" on publish

2010-11-24 Thread RedDot in Toronto
Has anyone come across an issue where lists will ignore the "Maximum
number of pages" set on the list element and publish the entire list?
This problem only appears on publish and not in Smart Edit or Preview.
The only solution I have is to change the "Maximum number of pages" to
another value save the changes and change it back to the desired
valur. I've gone as far as to delete he page containing the list and
re-create the page I'm using version 9.0.0.27. All of these
workarounds I've tried only work for limited amount of time before the
behavior appears again. After contacting Red Dot support the only
answer I was given was to check the release notes in newer versions to
see if the problem was fixed.

Has anyone ever seen this error: "Error: BuildPage: ERROR#14, Out of string space, Line 0 (ErrorLine:0)"

2010-10-05 Thread RedDot in Toronto
Hello,

We have 2 CMS servers both running 9.0.0.27, one server is dedicated
to publishing one is dedicated for the editorial staff to make their
edits. On the editorial server for certain pages we get this error
"Error: BuildPage: ERROR#14, Out of string space, Line 0 (ErrorLine:
0)" in preview and smart edit mode. The exact same page loads fine on
the publication server in smart edit, I've cleared the page cache,
restarted Red Dot services, restarted IIS, manually emptied all the
PageCache, Pre-execute Cache directories on on the server, cleared
navigation cache. This error still happens, on the editorial server...
short of rebooting the editorial server I'm out of ideas. Has anyone
experienced this or has a solution for this problem?

The full error from the smart edit window looks like this

Error in 'ioRD.asp?':
QueryString:Action=RedDot&Mode=1&PageGuid=3910E3A2915D4F24990524B50D8C978F&ActiveTranslation=

Error: BuildPage: ERROR#14, Out of string space, Line 0 (ErrorLine:0)

Re: Maximum users

2010-07-28 Thread RedDot in Toronto
I've done both but not together... I worked on a project that had 700+
publication packages and roughly the same amount of folders/sub
folders in one project it'll work but opening the publication package
tab is extremely slow. If you're going to go down that route, I'd
suggest that you start a naming convention for your publication
packages. Is there any reason why you need a separate package for each
user? Also make sure you have all your variants planned out in advance
you don't want to be adding variants 700 times to each publication
package and assigning publishing folder.

700 users isn't a problem for one project it'll work, from a licensing
point of view it all depends on how many users are going to be logged
in at any given time concurrent licenses. We had a project where each
sales rep had a custom home page 700ish sales reps.

We were on version 7.5x I believe.

CMS Randomly adding HTML header tags.

2010-06-21 Thread RedDot in Toronto
CMS is randomly adding HTML header tags to my templates, effectively
ignoring the header tags I already have in the templates. Has anyone
ever experienced this or know of a fix? The code in capital letters is
what CMS adds around my template code, this is one of those random CMS
problems that appeared today on one of our environments.

var sInvertDirectEdit="0";var
sRemoveFontSettings="0";var sRemoveStyleSettings="0";var
sAllowedStyleAttributes="";

Re: RedDot system requirements

2010-03-19 Thread RedDot in Toronto
We do publishing on demand pretty much 24/7... if you have downtime
meaning you can afford to do a full publish of your site nightly when
the users aren't updating content than maybe you don't need a separate
publishing server. We have 2 in our setup and it makes a big
difference. Red Dot is incredibly IO bound all those temp files it
writes to disk if you can afford to buy licences for a publication
server from the get go I'd suggest you do it. Our setup consists of 3
servers 1 dedicated for database, 1 for just the Red Dot front end
(editorial server), and one Red Dot server dedicated for publishing
and admin tasks. What you'll notice if you work allot with keyword
lists is that once you start accumulating content after your project
has launched tagging/untagging keyword lists becomes very taxing on a
server... if you have to add/remove 300-900 items for each keyword you
add/remove from a list.

You might want to consider publishing it locally and rsyncing it to
your Apache server, I've heard publishing it to a local disk is much
faster than FTP. Also if you're connection fails you can just re-ryn

Re: Forgoing annual maintenance, a crazy idea?

Maintenance is required to get product updates as well as things like
transferring serial number to different IP addresses if you're IT
infrastructure changes. An old client of mine was recently bought out
in an acquisition, decided to cut the maintenance contract prior to

Re: Standard Field Date Format

2009-11-10 Thread RedDot in Toronto

in Asp if you to save a date to a standard field you can use cLng
(Date) in Asp to convert the current date to integer date.

Standard Field - Date (Type 5)

The following attributes are specially designed for the Date field in
the Standard Field element:
"
ELEMENT attributeExplanation
ELT
valueDate as integer. 37622 stands, for example, 01.01.2003. Date
Conversion

In CMS, date information is always given as a floating point number or
as an integer. A floating point number includes that date and time,
whereas the integer only contains the date.

I've used PHP in several of my projects... I like the heredoc and
nowdoc functionality for deal special characters.
I've used PHP in version 7.0 - 7.5 and now 9.x
Also used PHP for our RQL plugins.

Re: RedDot 9 Appearance Schedule Functionality

2009-09-23 Thread RedDot in Toronto

If the publication packages/filename is the same you shouldn't have a
new url every time. You could also write an RQL plugin that Red Dot
calls as a User Defined Job at a specific time to release the changes
you made to that page at which time work flow will take over and
publish the page with the changes for you.

Re: Execute RQL in content classes using PHP rather than ASP...

2009-05-29 Thread RedDot in Toronto

It really depends how you are writing your your plugins... and I use
the term plug ins loosely. For example you could launch a pluggin from
an actual Red Dot page itself and pass the session/login guid in the
query string. If you want to embed the plugin in the action menu but
use php in theory you can write an ASP wrapper to pass the required
information via the query string. Other things I've done is actually
login to reddot with a user account via RQL do what ever I need to do
and log out, you can create a separate user account just for plugins
and increase the session limits there is still potential you'll run
into collisions once in a blue moon. I'll try an clean up the php
login bridge for you this weekend.

ok! thanks for that info! I tested to make a copy of the content class
that I want to replace, and then replaced it straight on, no changes.
But somehow the references didnt came along when I now click on the
menu with the new content class (no changes) I get the error message
described above (No page available). Shouldn´t this also be the same?

References when replacing content classes?

2009-02-16 Thread RedDot

Hi!

This problem I have might be very easy, but since I dont work with
RedDot on a regular basis, I forget even the basic thing.. So I
appreciate any help.

We discovered that we made a mistake early in development process
concearning top menus. We have a top menu with submenus. lets say top
menus should be based on content class A and submenus should be based
on content class B. The content classes are very similar, so the
mistake was that we built almost every sub page on content class A
instead of B. Looking into replacing content classes and tried some
test with a copy of one of thecontent classes. (same number of
elements that is). (And if this works i intend to change the content
class template after replacement. )

So it works fine, but when I click on my page with the new content
class I get the page with "No page HistoryBack". So I´m thinking ok,
the new page/content class doesn´t have the references/links that my
old content class had. So my question is if I can also replace the
references in the replace process? Or how do Ireference this again?
The page that I replaced the content class on still have its elements
and own subpages as well.

Re: Navigation Manager versus Nested ULs

2009-02-10 Thread RedDot in Toronto

Is it possible to publish the navigation HTML in a separate file with
navigation manager? I know it makes it easier for users to manage site
navigation themselves but if you have a large site and the HTML for
navigation is embedded on each page and you change the navigation
you'll have to republish alot of pages.

Also can you use different publication pages with navigation manager
for example on your left navigation you might have 2 sections boats
and cars can you have boats publish to /boats/index.html and cars
publish to /cars/index.html ?

Not that I know of... I've needed this functionality before and it

I may have one more suggestion for you... I've seen this feature never
actually had to use it but there is a feature that's available called
"Reference Page From Other Project" it appears in the action menu when
you click on an anchor but I only see it in smart tree right now...
again I've never used so you'll have to ask support about the expected
behavior and any draw backs if any.

Re: creating folders in RedDot and publishing issues

2009-01-27 Thread RedDot in Toronto

If you are using a list element to do your linking or you are
connecting a page to an anchor than a "copy" of that page will publish
to the publication package attached to the list or anchor... There is
one official way that I know of to get around this and 1 hack... if
you can use dynamic anchors and "reference" pages from Marine Safety.

If you must use List elements you can do some pre-execute code on the
list to trick Red Dot to thinking it's a reference instead of a list,
you might ask why would you use lists? instead of anchors well... with
dynamic anchors you need to "expand the anchor first" than reference
an existing page to the newly expanded anchor. With a List you can
just connect to existing page and use pre-execute to trick reddot into
thinking the list is referencing instead of connecting.

Are there draw backs to the hack yes... you're littering your site
with pre-execute code, what are the gains? If you're editorial team
doesn't understand the difference between connect to existing page and
reference existing page than the hack lets you always use connect to
existing page to achieve the same result as reference.

Re: Email notification when end user post a message

2009-01-27 Thread RedDot

HI!
Thanks for the reply!

Maybe I´m a bit lost here... My first thought was that it was only
possible to add a reaction when a RedDot editor edits, publish,
deletes etc a page (within RedDot, a logged in user in RedDot), and
then one can redirect a email to (in this case) a webmaster that have
to approve this before it is sent "live". What I have now is just a
plain module that leads to a page with a forum where the end users can
post messages. So you are right, what I want is to send a email when
a user press the "post"-button in the forum, the post is then approved
within Reddot manually by administrators and published back to the
forum. So this can be done the same as a ordinary workflow reaction?
I have not built this page myself and I´m not exactly sure how it
works due to this :-) but I dont think web services is involved.

Email notification when end user post a message

Hi!

I´m familiar with how one can add reactions (email notifications) when

possible to send a email notification to a certain email address when
the users of the page adds something?

In my case I have a forum on a site where users (not RedDot users) can

email notification in RedDot to a RedDot editor/administrator that
allows them to "accept" or "deny" the post to be published to the

Re: How many items can be placed on a list before RedDot explodes?

2009-01-15 Thread RedDot in Toronto

It depends on alot of factors, for example..

- How many content elements are you pulling in from the pages
connected to the list
- How much pre-execute code you have on the page that contains the
list for example if you are doing any kind of processing on content
transfered through the list

And as one poster already mentioned more items on a list means the
longer it takes smartTree to render when you expand the list.

Re: Strange behaviour with red dots.

2008-12-18 Thread RedDot

Thanks for your replies!

Yes it sounds like we have the same problem...
I always log out via the logout button. The next time it happends I
will check the logged on users. Is there somewhere that you can see
how many admin licenses you have?

And Anthony, your solution is what usually works for us as well...
changing projects and log out /log in etc...

Think this solution will be used in the future for us again... its
just irritating for us and our clients when they have to wait
somteimes over an hour to get it to work when they have some important
information that needs to be published...

well well, thanks for your response, and if I hear of, or find,
another solution, I´m sure to post it here.

Re: RedDot 9

2008-12-17 Thread RedDot in Toronto

I'm pretty sure at one of the user group meetings they shows us a very
early version and there was talk of a "clipboard" for smart edit mode.
I couldn't find that in any of the documentation. I found out there's
another added hurdle according to open text you can't just "download
and install" as an upgrade anymore you need a new license key which
you have to apply for. On an interesting note there's now a
"Developer's Desktop License" details are vague but I was told to talk
to my sales rep... :-(

Strange behaviour with red dots.

2008-12-17 Thread RedDot

Hello!

Lately I have had some strange problems with RedDot. My user account
is set to administrator and I have all the rights possible. But
sometimes when I log in I see that I´m currently logged in as
"Visitor" and I can´t see any red dots (due to account rights for
visitor). And then everything is normal again some other time...
Is this a bug in the CMS? I´m currently using RedDot 7.1.

Any ideas?

Re: Reddot publishing issues

product.aspx is managed/published by reddot correct?

If it is did you check the main link of product.aspx in linking and
appearance schedule than follow the main link and check the
publication package attached to the main link of product.aspx.

Re: Weird dllhost.exe problem

2008-12-08 Thread RedDot in Toronto

Same here... we got the same from Red Dot support upgrade to the
latest version and is "should" fix things. But the trend for us seems
to be that it occurs during large publication jobs. We have an
overnight job that triggers around 12:30am, and sometimes that job
just hangs until the next morning when we restart the services.

Sometimes Red Dot tries to be smart... if you want you can exclude

templates on the action menu click "Assign Project Variants" and check

Re: How do I change publication target of one page in a list?

2008-11-24 Thread RedDot in Toronto

The page would be connected in 2 places... one is the list that you
are having problems with now the other is where you want it to
publish. Once you've established both links you set the "main link" in
the linking and appearance schedule to the list where you actually
want it to publish and that code that I posted will be on the list
that you want to reference or "fake" as being a reference. The other
alternative is you convert the list to a dynamic anchor list at which
point you can have a publication target for each anchor. I'll post a
more detailed example later.

Re: How do I change publication target of one page in a list?

2008-11-24 Thread RedDot in Toronto

This is very hacky... but what you can do is this...

"); ?
>

If I understand your problem correctly.

A list can only have one publication package and anything under that
list will publish to the location specified in that publication
package. The above code will tell RedDot to check the main link of the
page in question and use the main link. What you can do is set the
main link and assign it to the location where you want to publish with
the publication package. It makes it think that the list is an anchor
and that you are doing a "reference existing" page instead of "connect
to existing page", of course you'll have to check what the list is
iterating through currently probably with the title or page ID. I'd
use it sparingly though if you want to find out more about this there
is a section in the RQL documentation under lists/anchors that tell
you what the flag does.

Re: Sharing Pages Between Projects

2008-11-21 Thread RedDot in Toronto

Yes you can through the content sharing feature. I don't have a step
by step and there are quite a few steps depending on what you are
doing. I was able to pull through contents of a page in one project to
another I did it along time ago, I'd suggest searching the
reddotcommunity.com site or calling up support, I don't think they
cover it in the training manuals either.

Re: Simple question?

Thanks for the reply.

Do you mean the "Insert file link" button when I click "edit link" in
text editor? This is the option I´ve tried, and should work(?) if I
get this right:

"Click to select a file from an Asset Manager folder as reference
target. You can choose a file from your local computer, or from a
folder on the RedDot Content Server."

Im not sure what text editor I´m using but it should be the default
provided by RedDot.

Re: Simple question?

2008-11-18 Thread RedDot

Edit: It seems like that the whole path is not found to the file. I
tried to use a media placeholder and added a pdf file to it. In
SmartEdit mode, the only thing that was shown was the path to the file
in text. If I then copy this path to the "href" textbox when editing
my link in text editor it works fine. But the question still remains;
why is not this path included just when I add a file to a text link or
a media placeholder?

Simple question?

2008-11-18 Thread RedDot

Hi!

I´m pretty new to RedDot, been a part of a small team implementing a
clients home page in RedDot and am now responsible for service and
support of our clients homepage. To my surprise I found a seeemingly
easy task not working for me.

What I´m trying to do is simply link some text in the text editor to a
pdf file. I´ve selected my text and clicked "edit link" and added my
file to the link. When I then click on my link I get the message that
there is no page to show or a blank window is opened if I set the
target to "new" or "_blank". I´ve seen this in a old project and this
works fine in this project.

Anyone have any ideas? Must be something I´m missing here...

Regards

Re: Set page not to publish

2008-11-17 Thread RedDot in Toronto

You can do it at the template level... Content Class (you don't want
to publish) -> Tempates -> Assign Project Variants... be careful with
this feature, one of the problems I've experienced in the past is if
it is directly connected to a page that you do want to publish it can
cause publication weirdness.

Re: Publishing problems

2008-11-11 Thread RedDot in Toronto

I've called RedDot support for a similar issues but I don't think it's
isolated to PDF's I have the same problem here for for HTML and XML.
Basically when our users go through workflow and approve pages the
HTML variant that we have doesn't get published but the XML version
does. I called RedDot support and they pointed me to the Help section
under edit publication settings... for the following 2 options

- Do not follow page references when publishing [ ] Yes
- Do not follow link references when publishing [ ] Yes

These were both checked off for me... if you read the help make sure
you pay attention to the "NOTE". If you uncheck both these options it
my impact performance on large project.

Fortunately the data that needed to be published is in a list 3 big
lists so all I did was write some RQL that publishes the list for me
with all the appropriate options checked (this pretty much acts as a
manual publish) and save it as a User Defined Job, create a workflow
that calls the user defined job to publish the lists. The down side is
all the GUID's for the lists/pages are hard coded but it works for me
for now it's not pretty or elegant but this stuff is critical for me.

Re: Do you manage all files within RedDot?

2008-11-11 Thread RedDot in Toronto

It really depends on how your environment is setup, for example at my
last place we didn't roll out a full Development/QA/Staging
environment until 9 months after the project went live. Having your
css/js in RedDot makes development easier because you can use the
Draft variants to publish draft css/js to the appropriate servers. In
our case we had alot of sub domains on for every section of the site
practically, we also used fully qualified URLs when RedDot published
files. It pretty much makes things a one click deploy or one click
publish all, you don't have to remember what directories to check out.

Sure we've already opened a ticket with RedDot support, because during
the last ephox/reddot webex both companies openly stated that RedDot
is responsible for integration.

Re: Publishing problems

2008-11-10 Thread RedDot in Toronto

1. So you have one project and 2 project variants in this project? and
you are having problems with 1 content class that has 2 templates (1
for each project variant)?

2. Are you saying you are trying to display an image from an external
site (the image asset is not managed by the asset manager)?

Yes you can only have one headline element per page the headline is a
special element. Unless you are pulling it in through a list.

Ephox Editor GUI/Linking dialog broken with 7.5 SP2

2008-10-31 Thread RedDot in Toronto

Just a heads up we’ve encountered a problem with our Ephox Editor
install after installing 7.5 SP2. The GUI for the editor is broken,
particularly with the drop down menus labels are missing for example
you’ll see Icons like the “disk” for save but the word save is
missing. Some drop down menus are cut short or partially cut off, and
the most important feature linking is broken, when you highlight text
in the editor and try to link it with the link icon it launches the
RedDot linking dialog that’ll ask you if it’s an external like, or if
you’re linking to a file or a RedDot page labels are missing and
buttons appear to be rendered improperly.

Re: Your favourite version of CMS 7.5?

2008-09-28 Thread RedDot in Toronto

Problems for us have crept up since .91... major issues with CPU and
Memory usage... We have an 8 core machine running with 4 gigs of
memory. Our site is quite large with 14,000 pages, during a site wide
publish or large jobs we notice the following symptons...

RedDot process chews up 2.5+ gigs or memory, CPU usage drops to 0%.
RedDot become unusable. The only way to resolve the issue is to
restart all of the RedDot services.

We've also separate IIS and MS SQL onto separate machines. RedDot
support of course denies an known issues.
