Does it happen when pine is open? Pine will bleep everytime a new message
arrives in the currently opened mailbox.

Now and again I here it go and just can't fathom out why.

Re: System Log Book?

2001-11-22 Thread Adam Goucher

BTW: I don't log rpm installs/updates, *if* I run them the default way:
this because I get info on them very quickly by simply doing a
'rpm -qa --last' ... the lazy method :) ... oops: this just gives me the
idea of doing a 'rpm -qa --last log file' next time .. just in case the
rpm database, or whatever produces this log, will break ... :)

I think for a logbook you would want to do 'rpm -qa --last log' else
you will only ever have your last --last. :)

new ximian sawfish upgrade broken?

2001-01-25 Thread Adam Goucher

I just updated my sawfish install via the gnome updater. Since then,
sawfish no longer starts. Heres the, I believe, important part of the
errors X spits out.

rm: cannot remove `/home/adam/.gnome//gmc-5h9khW': No such file or directory

** WARNING **: Root window clicks will not work as no GNOME-compliant window manager
could be found!

XSMP error: Offending minor opcode= 10 (ShutdownCancelled)
 Offending sequence number = 10
 Error class = BadState
 Severity  = CanContinue

error-- (file-error "No such file or directory" "rep/data/tables")

Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_signal_disconnect_by_data(): could not find handler containing
data (0x8113DD0)

...tonne more of these...

I noticed someone on the sawfish site also had the rep/datas/tables
error. Anyone else have it yet -- and figure out how to fix it?

Re: 7.0 disable hardware detect after install

2000-12-11 Thread Adam Goucher

from a command prompt..

chkconfig --del kudzu

man chkconfig for more details.

-adam

 Hello,
just disable Kudzu (Sysvinit). Because I don't know your Desktop it isn't easy
to recommend a workaround, as far as I can remember there is a tool ( maybe
sysvinit with all those nice scripts and runlevels) with KDE where you can
 disable Kudzu.
 Hope this helps

I downloaded and installed evolution using the latest rpms. Now I don't know
where it went. Tell me how to start it and then I will be able to find it..

You could try...
$ locate evolution
...which will give you alist of all the files on your system with
evolution in them. If your machine is not on 24/7 you may need to run...
# updatedb
...as updatedb is run nightly @4am via a cron job.

Isnt there a way, also through procmail, to rewrite subject lines to nuke
annoying list prefixes? Seems to me I had a link to do that (but hadnt
actually tried to implement it yet). Though I imagine it was somewhere in
http://www.procmail.org/jari/pm-tips.html -- not sure exactly which

to get in the way everytime I try...)

People who think they HAVE to filter on the subject heading are wrong.

Re: mouse through switchbox

2000-07-05 Thread Adam Goucher

If you're already using an ELECTRONIC KVM switch, I don't
know what to tell you. :-)

Unfortuntly I am ... a StarView if I recall correctly. (Not at the machine
ATM). So, I would say that that is one kvm switch to avoid (unless I can
figure out how to make it work) under Linux (works brilliantly in NT
though)

Where can I download ISO images of other dists?

The size of the files aren't an issue.

mouse through switchbox

2000-07-04 Thread Adam Goucher

Hi. I'm having a hard time getting my mouse to work through my new kvm
switchbox. It works fine for the nt box, but the mouse doesnt respond in
x. Hopefully this is not one of the things 'that need work'. Heres the
setup...

linux box (ps/2 port) - ps/2-to-serial changer - serial port on switch
box (input) - serial port on switch box (output)

I think the problem is that its doing a ps/2 - serial changover at the
switchbox, therefore, I may have to just get a cheapo serial connector for
the linux box, but hoping to not need to do that...so any ideas would be
appreciated.

Re: kernel rpms

i dont think redhat makes development kernel rpms as they are, well,
development kernels and people might see a rev level higher than they
currently have, install them, and then cause negative press for redhat.

not to mention the fact that userland utils (initscripts for one) need to
be upgraded to accomadate the new kernel functionality.
