check for the firewall option. Either disable the firewall and just do a

services which is disabled by default.

Re: Red Hat 7.2 server freezes...

2002-09-23 Thread Mohd.Irfan R Khan

first thing are u using a smp kernel ( i know it may be a stupid query)
Try installing and using it in a text mode and check it out at the same
time check if ur hard drive cable is right as new hard drives are
ATA66-ATA100 and if u have mixed it up with some other hard drives as well
which of less capacity and might not be able to work properly.
try and give some more details of capacity of hdd and whether the cables are
ata66-ata100 compatible as well.
Best Of Luck

Hello Everyone

I have a RedHat 7.2 (2.4.7-10 kernel) server that has constantly been
freezing. The machine will be on, but its as good as its turned off. When
I go to the console, there is no video signal, and all I can do at that
point is a cold reboot. I have replaced the NIC, changed the HD but to no
luck. It is on a Dell 4300. I am beginning to think that it may just be
some incompatibility that is causing these random freezes. I am considering
upgrading to a newer kernel, or may be even upgrading to 7.3. Has anyone
experienced such phenomena?

Any suggestions/concerns?

Tinu

Re: installation problem

2002-09-23 Thread Mohd.Irfan R Khan

EVEN IF u do a reinstall ftp and telnet won't start up on its own
you have to enable the service from /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and cp telnet to
ftp and
configure the ftp service by removing intelnet.d in ftp file as by default
there is no ftp file and telnet is disabled.

Re: Compact 20/40 Dat External not detected by Redhat

2002-09-20 Thread Mohd.Irfan R Khan

the simplest way of doing it is Only if u r scsi card is detected is compile
a kernel and make it * in the kernel so it will come up with every boot in
SCSI Tape drive option. This is a 15-25 Min Job depending on ur config and
will tell you where u stand and also is it possible or not.
for any further help u can mail me on my ID aswell

Re: ipchains vs iptables with 7.3 new install

2002-09-20 Thread Mohd.Irfan R Khan

on linux 7.3 u have to type "setup" without quotes and go in services and
disable ipchains and iptables if u dont want to use it
at the same time if u want to use ftp u will have to copy telnet file in
/etc/xinetd.d/telnet to /etc/xinetd.d/ftp and edit the ftp file in
/etc/xinetd.d and change the service from telnet to ftp and change the
disable option to no & save it do this for all the other services u want to
use in /etc/xinetd.d/ as by default all are disabled.

Hope this would solve ur problem

Re: DLink DFE-530TX+ on RH7.1 ???

2002-09-08 Thread Mohd.Irfan R Khan

yeah it seems to work fine in RH
7.0..
I think in ur case u have to specify the routing
card i.e. the default gw. through which the internal network will see the
outside world.
May u should check ur settings and may be u can put
one card at a time and check it out if it pings

  We
basically threw away all the D-Link cards and replaced them with 3Com. Seems
to be the industry standard and more accurate with packet sniffing,
  etc.

DLink DFE-530TX+ on RH7.1 ???
Hi
I usually use Realtek , but this time I picked
up some DLink TFE-530+ nic's
Seems okay, modules.conf  has the entries
eth0 8139.too and eth1 8139.too
Looks okay on "ifconfig -a", but then when I do a "route" it takes a long time to
recognise the default route and I don't seem to be able to join the internal
network.
I remember some talk about DLink not being
really compatible on earlier versions of RH.
Has anyone been able to make them work of RH7.1
using 8139.too ???
