RH9-Installation on 486-System ?

2003-06-02 Thread Walther, Christoph
Hello, RedHat interested community,

I want to install RH9 on my lovely old 486-System for my children:
AMD K5 (80486DX) 100Mcs Processor on GA-486AM-Motherboard.
The RH9-releasenotes forces me to use a system only above of Pentium I,
and, so I tried, the installationroutine will aborted, the used kernel obviously is
only
compiled for Pentium and above...
I think, that's not in mind of Linux...

Does anyone know how to install this RH 9 on a 486-system?

E.g.:

- exact description of installation with 486-compiled-kernel ?

Many thanks,

Christoph

AW: RH 7.2: No access with Exceed 6.0

2002-03-08 Thread Walther, Christoph

Thanks Davis

for your hints...

...now, the access from Exceed to my RH7.2-Server is working:

I changed the network-card:

INTEL Ether Express ISA - 3Com 3C509 ISA
The INTEL-card obviously is said, to have timing problems.
Some BIOS-Administrations allow adjusting the timesetting-parameter;
not so the BIOS on my FSC PRIMERGY 470...

I still wondering because of the

(Willing, but /etc/X11/xdm/Xwilling failed)

message in the XDMCP Display Manager Chooser-window.
Other servers normally message:

(2 users load: 1.0, 1.0, 1.0), by example

So I'm asking me (the others interested too), where this is to configure...

The

chkconfig rexec on

is without any effect.

Thanks and greetings,

Christoph Walther

RH 7.2: No access with Exceed 6.0...

2002-03-04 Thread Walther, Christoph

Hello all,

I'm using RH 7.2 with KDE.
I've a problem to access via Exceed 6.0 (Windows 95) to X on the RH 7.2-Box.

I have made following configuration:

/etc/inittab: x:5:
respawn:/etc/X11/predfm -nodaemon

/etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess:
* CHOOSER BROADCAST
%hostlist 164.27.222.243

/etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config:
!DisplayManager.requestPort: 0

/etc/hosts.allow:
All: All

After setting up this, and taken the IP-adress of my server
in the xdmcp.txt - file, my RH-server doesn't appear in the
XDMCP Display Manager Chooser-Window.

Does anyone have an idea or experience, what seem wrong here ??

With another RH 7.0-Box, using Gnome, I didn't have these problems !!

Thanks,

Christoph Walther
