We beat on that subject for several hours here in Tech Support, plenty of Doc's that say do this and do that and it will work. Let me offer this gem from trying to get a printer to work for the better part of a year, at home. IF you have EVER run samba on your machine, it'll put it's hoots into the parallel port to the point that doing the: cat "yourtext " > /dev/lp (or any other lp device we tried) ...will utterly fail. Only after removing ALL the samba packages did Calamity's printer work. Why? Beats me. No clue to this day. PLIP might be brought down by the same problem. If your printer isn't working, PLIP won't as well. If your printer is working with samba, samba might interfer with PLIP. Food for thought, as usual your mileage may vary. Re: Parallel Connection
Hi all: For what it's worth: I posted a similar question several times during a period when I tried to get PLIP running between two Linux-running PC's. I never did get it working completely -- always something would work, and something would not work. Basically I could never communicate both ways between the machines with all of the methods for exchanging files. I used the HOWTO's plus an article in the Linux Journal that gave a good description of the whole process. I never did understand why it wasn't working. And of course it was a nuisance to have to attach the PLIP cable to the printer port and then take it off to print, etc, etc. The responses I got from my postings were to forget PLIP and get a couple of cheap ethernet cards. If anyone has gotten PLIP working between two Linux-running PC's, I would certainly appreciate some info about it, and thanks Cheers, bob jones ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) "Mikkel L. RE: Parallel Connection
1. Please turn HTML off when sending messages to Linux lists. 2. Look at your /usr/doc directory. 3. If you have RH 6.2, there is a CD with all the documentation. 3. www.linux.org is a good place to search for them, too. -Manuel. -Mensaje original- De: Stephen Liu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Enviado el: Lunes, 24 de Abril de 2000 05:40 p.m. Para: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Asunto: Re: Parallel Connection Hi Mikkel, Please shed me some light where I can download the documents of PLIP, LINUX PLIP mini-HOWTO, and PLIP-Install-HOWTO, PLIP Install HOWTO.
