It is time to take a decision about Qt 4.6 KDE 4.4.0. I'ld like to announce
the following to kcd and kd next saturday.

In the past we decided that these things require two explicit +1's. As those
are missing, I won't announce this.

As i18n coordinator you have my vote here:
+0

I can't see it having any effect on us other than shifting release date
(neither bad nor good).

 ** Qt 4.6 dependency in trunk **
The release team has decided that KDE 4.4.0 will depend on Qt 4.6. To give
developers the time to work with Qt 4.6, we have decided that from
Saturday October 10th* trunk will start depending on Qt 4.6. Everyone need
to update the coming two weeks to that version of Qt.

since explicit +1'ing is necessary: +1 from me.

distros _will_ ship KDE 4.3 with Qt 4.6. the performance improvements and
needs of other apps are too great.

we will also benefit greatly from features in Qt 4.6, due to the same
performance and features. several KDE developers are waiting with patches in
hand for Qt 4.6 to be an acceptable target.

the downside is that it means we adjust our release schedule to ensure it
works out, but that is worth it in this case imho.

This will give us approx. 2 weeks between Qt's RC and KDE's beta 1 and 2
weeks between the expected Qt final release and the start of our release
candidate cycle. Of course we are not sure that Qt will release at those
times, but with the former schedule it was to close to eachother. Qt will
let the release team know if the schedule changes and we'll decide what to
  do at that moment.

once we decide to depend on 4.6, it'll be really hard to go back as there are
new features that will end up being used in our code. i think that's an
important thing to be aware of.

You mean 4.4 right ? Or future releases of 4.3 ?

Mandriva already have the Qt 4.6 packages ready, is just matter to wait
final release then we can do proper change.
