HERE is the best help anyone can give you.
First, learn everything that you can about repeaters. When you can
build, operate, and troubleshoot, it in basic terms and when you can
answer your own questions then you a qualified to own a repeater.
There are too many people buying and putting up repeaters with out
knowing how they work and causing problems for the rest of us, and
having a crappy sounding machine and can't fix them to go around.

Here in Kamloops BC, we have been using the RVS-8 on one of our local
repeaters for a couple of years now. It has worked flawlessly the
entire time. We didn't have any trouble setting it up and it has
maintained its settings ever since. It is in a somewhat temperature
stable environment in that the temp only changes from maybe 10C to
35C between winter and summer.
We are currently running with 4 remote receivers but have 2 more
planned for the not too distant future. The radios are surplus
commercial Glenayre repeaters which are small modular rack mounted
units. We currently run a 100W VHF transmitter and have 4 matching
UHF receivers connected to a single Sinclair 310C4 UHF antenna via an
8 port amplified multicoupler.
The remotes are all Glenayre VHF receivers with a mix of UHF
transmitters.
I also have the channel disable lines from the RVS-8 connected to the
controller so that I can disable individual receivers if necessary.
If I had to do it all over I would stay witht he RVS-8. It's a great
little unit.
If you are interested, there are a few pictures here...

2003-11-01 Thread Shanon Lee Herron

Hello Joe,

I have a 4520 but don't wish to sell it
right now, maybe at a later date.  Matter of fact I have been working on it
the past week to get it on the air with an external controller, an
RC-1000V.  I would be glad to share what I have learned with you.  I
also have some sheets from ACC on hooking up all of the Icom repeaters.
Again willing to share.  I was hoping to scan them over to a Adobe PDF file
and post them.  I also have all the manuals for the Icom repeaters.  I
also have a 2m and 220 Icom repeater.  All have been adapted to external
controllers.  I have also changed out the cables to RG-142 and connectors
on the 2m and 220 to N connectors.  Killed the desence.  Pictures now
available on these changes.

The 4520 tuned up real nice into the
ham band.  It was in the commercial area above when I got it.  The Tx
does over 50 watts but I have turned it down to 30.  I bought it with a
Vicor 100 watt amp, not sure if I will use it or not.

Let me know if you need the info.  If
someone would help guide me, I will put the info up for posting somewhere.
Time permitting. (what's that?)

I received a call from the dealer that sold me the repeater. They said that
Kenwood had ordered a recall on all TK 750 and 850 repeaters. They
redesigned the Transmitter. IT has a much larger driver transistor and
final.

They will replace the board at no cost to you.

If you will only ever need 4 channels or less, go with the DHE, as it
gets pretty expensive for more than 4 channels.
The DHE is a better unit, more stable, and less troublesome, but more
expensive.

I have owned both, along with the 2 channel kits on my site, and the DHE
is the best. The pots on the LDG leave a lot to be desired, and it
appears that the LDG unit changes with temperature, etc. I have also
had some trouble with the software doing some weird stuff with the LDG
unit, but the DHE is all analogue so this isn't a problem. The DHE uses
10 turn (maybe 15 turn?) pots so setting is much more precise.

IMHO of course
