[Repeater-Builder] Looking for GE Master Exe II

2004-03-21 Thread Miguel
Hello Everyone and thanks for reading my post.. I am basically
looking for a GE Master Exe II so that I can make a repeater on the
ham band. I am looking for UHF...

I would prefer if its already converted to the ham band and all I
need to do is order crystals and setup a pair of duplexers and on-
the air..

I am looking for something cheap, not going over $60...

If you have one and want to get rid off, please email me..

Miguel, AI4EM

The RLC4 doesn't have the scheduler that the RLC3 does.

You'll have to come up with an alternate method to trigger the event.
Just what are you trying to do?

Re: [[Repeater-Builder] Motorola Motrac Radio]

2004-03-21 Thread JOHN MACKEY
Don't bother.

There are several other models of radios that would be better choices, such as
a Micor or Mitrek which can often be found at swap meets for $25.

The mobile Motracs are all over 30 years old and the insulation
on the internal wiring (at least on mine is starting) to flake off.
Given that situation I would not trust a Motrac in a mission-critical
environment.

The early Motracs - the HHTs used crystals in ovens. I do not
know of anybody that is still making oven crystals. The LHT series
and MHT series used channel elements - packaged transistorized
crystal oscillators. The UHF LHTs and MHTs used a funny two-piece
element that is hard to find, but a one-piece blue element can be made
to work just fine by changing one resistor inside.

Also the heat sinks on the tubes are made for a 10%-30%
duty cycle - and the heat transfer characteristics is such that
they can't "suck" the heat off fast enough for repeat duty.

Mitreks make better low power low-duty-cycle repeaters if
a crystal based radio is OK You can get them for $20-50 each.
If you need a high duty cycle repeater go with a GE master-II.

And if you need synthesized, two Maxtracs can be cross-
connected into a dandy little low duty cycle repeater...

As to a controller, any of the current crop can be set for a low
hang time. The cheapest is the NHRC kit.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] RLC-4 Controller Help

2004-03-21 Thread Richard
I'm reasonably familiar with both of those controllers, and the RLC-4
doesn't have the scheduler as the RLC-3 does, so that route is out. It
depends on what you want the DVR to do as to whether it is possible. One
option would be to use an event trigger to run it, but those options are
pretty limited, and I wouldn't quite know how to go about using them,
because I've never messed with 'em. Besides, there are some you aren't
supposed to use. Another route would be to use one of the user timers, but
there again you'd need an event or an external input to start it, and it is
only one-shot.

One possible route would be to use one of the ID'rs to start the DVR, but
that could quickly become a pain unless you triggered it from the initial
ID. Then it would run the DVR only when the repeater ID's when it has been
idle for longer than ten minutes.

Hope this helps.

Is anyone here well versed with the Link Communincations Controller
RLC-4 that could answer some questions regarding the DVR? What I am
looking to find out is if there is a way to make the contoller send
a DVR message at any period of time without having to call it up.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply. It is a mobile unit. I was sent some info that
it takes a special programmer to change it. A ham has a business less
than an hour from where the unit is that can do the programming.
