I remember that stuff; used to have a bunch of it but threw it out a few years ago. I looked around the local area for some after you mentioned this a while back, but came up empty handed. Finally I discovered most of the stuff I'd already tried without success will fit if it's put in the freezer for an hour. :) I got distracted today, but hopefully I will get this antenna finished and tested tomorrow. If this works like I think it will I'll be building a few more. Paul Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] coaxial collinear
I seen one once built for 11M. back in the 1970's used either a 1/4 or 1/2 wave of some coax and had to be precise it was spliced by a barrell connector, it was called the cobra coil. It never worked for me just a waste of time. [Repeater-Builder] Re Circulator
HI I have just changed my 70 cm repeater antenna over to a co-linear 8 dBd gain, was running 2 full wave dipoles stacked (reason..antenna faults and not able to mount with correct vertical spacing). When I was calibrating the circulator on the bench, all set up perfectly, with the receive port being sharp in its setting. On site since the antenna was running a slightly higher VSWR compared to a dummy load (1.2:1), I thought it might be an idea to just tweak the receive port to optimise the rejection. However I found the tuning to be very flat, question, is this normal or am I missing something? 73 Andy G3UEQ Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] coaxial collinear
I finally got around to constructing my first coaxial collinear as per: http://www.repeater-builder.com/antenna/wa6svt.html (and using a few of Kevin's ideas) I have a question for those who have built these. Referring to step 9 and figure 4, I assume the decoupling sleeve connects a *true* (free space) quarter wave down from where the feedline connects to the first half wave element? Something I've discovered which may be of use to other antenna builders... I had trouble finding coax guts that would fit inside the K&S 5/16" tubing. Most of it was just a little too tight to be forced into the tubing. Then I discovered if you chill the coax guts in the freezer for about 30 minutes it shrinks enough to slip in! It's still snug but it'll go in. It then becomes *very* tight after it warms up, and probably cannot be easily removed. Using this technique, Belden 8237 and 8267 is usable for solid dielectric designs, 8214 for foam. Actually most 8214 can be forced through without being chilled. I found one NOS piece of 8267 that fits without being chilled, but the new stuff doesn't (at least not the two pieces I ordered from different suppliers as a test -- your results may vary, considering construction tolerances for both the coax and the brass tubing may cause unpredictable variations). There are many Elmira's across the US, including the more famous NY Elmira. Many of you know about Travis Air Force Base. Draw a 2 mile circle around it, just to the northeast is Elmira, to the north Vacaville, the to the west Fairfield. Most of the mentioned towns were sleepy little < 10,000 type places. Everything is 120,000 plus and all jammed up, town border to border. Travis AFB puts many a large aircraft right over us at less than 1500 ft... as we are in the pattern for regular runway downwinds. I remember when the main interstate (I-80) was a sleepy two lane freeway called I-40, the Lincoln Star Highway. Don't be fooled by qrz stats. Emira is actually an old railroad stop... swallowed up by Vacaville and there are hundreds of Amateurs around in the Metro Area. If you get down this way, drop in for a cup of joe (not evil empire starbucks). We send every visitor home with a free Motrac or Pre-Progress radio. Even if you don't want it... :-) cheers skipp www.radiowrench.com > The map shows it as placed just south of I-80 & I-505 ... been > through your area on both freeways numerous times over the last 40 > years or so. [Repeater-Builder] Celwave PD200 Repair
In addition to my last posting, I forgot to mention one point concerning the base sandwich. Besides the metal plates having the three holes for the clamping 1/4 inch bolts and the UHF female connector, it has an additional open hole straight through the sandwich. This is the weep hole to leak out any moisture that would collect in the base aluminum tube. The way this antenna is designed, we know that we would never use it upside down for the obvious reason mentioned above. Ciao, Tony, K3WX Yahoo! You are so correct - the only Elmira I was aware of is just west of Eugene, Oregon. The map shows it as placed just south of I-80 & I-505 ... been through your area on both freeways numerous times over the last 40 years or so. Is about 12 hours from here ... depending where the funny colored cars with the screwy lighting systems are hiding. I fondly remember when the now I-505 was but a two lane county road. Re: [Repeater-Builder] MULTIPLE EMAILS
I went to my group member section to find Lee ("Q") subscribed 3 times, which I know he didn't do. When I tried to unsubscribe the second and third subscription, it totally deleted him from the list because the email address was the same for all three subscriptions. I have manually sent Lee a subscription invitation and apology, but there seems to be nothing we as moderators or owners can do for this situation. Damn Yahoo.
