[Repeater-Builder] HELP - Mitrek Key.

2006-04-28 Thread Kevin & Natalia Mitchell
HELP,

I have just tried to open my newly aquired 6mtr mitrek, with the key that I
had for my 10mtr mitreks. This key opens all 6 radios I have, brought at
different times, from different sources across the State.
I found that it would not open. The cut is the same and fits in okay
Are there different keys for different mitrek??
If so, can someone advise how I can get into the radio, so I can work on it.

Regards

Kevin.

why mess with coax duplexers? you can make very good duplexers with coffee
cans or best is aluminum irrigation pipe.

Hi Tedd

very interesting. The cavities no doubt would cost a fortune
to ship to the UK.
Iam going to have a go at using Heliax, not keen on the idea
as they can be troublesome, go off tune with bending etc, but
Mike has encoraged me to have a go with the article on his

Yes, the Mitrek can be duplexed in about 10 minutes.. There are several

Hi All,

I have a Mitrek for 50Mhz, I want to convert it for use as a 6mtr repeater.
Question is, is it possible to make it as a repeater from a single unit, or
do I need two radios?
I have all the information on converting, as I built units for a 10mtr
repeater, and a 2mtr unit.
If I can not use it I will use it as a base radio for 6mtrs.

Put a large dist on the bottom of the tuning rod. make sure the diameter is
such that you have no less than a 1/4 inch to the wall of the can. then put
them on the network analyzer and tune and trim the disk as needed.

Mike;
These are actually 66-88 also but tuned to 72-76 and very
close spaced. They have 2 notch threaded rod stubs on each can. I was
amazed to see how close spaced they were on the freq's in them. I did
find some information on home plating but looks like the better part
of $500.00 for a kit to do it... and a bit of a learning curve..
Anyone here done any home silver plating either That insight
would be useful too! I am more interested in if it is necessary?

Re: [Repeater-Builder] FLAT AUDIO -- GM300 / MAXTRAC

2006-04-28 Thread Bob M.
The jumper called JU551 is the one that controls
whether you get flat or de-emphasized/muted audio on
the accessory connector. It's location varies and
depends on the radio.

MaxTracs and GM300s use different boards, so it
matters which one you have.

If you open the radio and get us the HLN number off
the logic board (the one on the bottom, with the
accessory connector on it), we can get a lot more
specific.

Meanwhile, if it IS a MaxTrac, there's (more than)
plenty of info on www.repeater-builder.com

Or go to the 16-pin plug description web page at www.repeater-builder.com
Click on Motorola, then Maxtrac, then look for something titled
something like "The definitive guide..."

The page goes so far as to have a photo of the logic board
with a pen pointing to the jumper. Can't get much more
handholding than that.

Very, very nice... the current generation of solar electronics
is finally coming into "their prime" / great features per
dollar spent.

Nice, I believe many of the current generation repeaters
on the market have similar features. For the older stuff,
we have to do it by retrofit.

One could copy the power fail circuit from the Motorola
Spectra Tac remote receiver. The power fail alert-tone
feature is great but you always seem to end up having to
explain it the user(s) each time it triggers.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Simplex repeater Controller

2006-04-28 Thread Ron Wright, Skywarn Coodinator
Randy,

The RS, as others have suggested, did just as you want and yes they
have not made them for a number of years. Every once in a while do
see on ebay.

I've used a version of the ISD voice R/P IC for similar
applications. The RS was 20 sec, but ISD made the same in their
ISD14xx series in 20 to 4 minute units. JameCo has them. Would
require some small interface to make it work such as use COS to
force record and then strobe and playback and generate PTT.

I think Hamtronics made about the same. They did a clever, non-
documented, not good design engineering of the IC on the audio
output on playback would go to about 2.5 VDC, 0 when dormant. They
used it to generate a ptt on playback. It did work.

I have a similar device I got in a trade about 10 years ago from a
company who use to sell as a talking repeater controller. They used
the slogan "our controllers speak for themselves". It lasted about
a year. They went on to bigger and better things such as voice
signs for such as "wet floor" signs for the blind.

I have one of these you can have for the $7 shipping. I will have
to dig in the junk box to find, but it is new, never been used in
the box (old time wise). I'll look for it and do some studing to
see what it would take to adapt it for your application.

73, ron, n9ee/r

ps For some reason some seem to take a good subject and talk about
other things such as language. Well, when it comes to hams they
talk about a lot, hi.

2006-04-28 Thread Doug Bade
Well that is interesting I just opened a Decibel 900 duplexer can
to repair and found the innards are copper and no plating on the can
itself... That would be sweet if mine is the same !! The tuning assy
in the middle is silver plated and in this case the finger stock is
what is damaged, but the can is not silver plated... Cool !
Maybe there is hope yet... I need to cut the can tonight and see what
is really inside !!!

Come on by sometime (soon) and I will load you up.

I am giving some thought to doing a(another) clean-out of my

Also to go will be the Mastr-Pro collection and all accessories.

The next step will be Micor/Mocom-70's and perhaps the

I won't be shipping anything - if someone wants something, I
think I have plenty of parking space.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Simple PIC Repeater Controller

2006-04-28 Thread Ron Wright, Skywarn Coodinator
Dinesh,

Looked at your controller. Looks pretty good. However, did not see
any CW ID or audio processing, a must for a ham repeater. Adding
these is a simple thing. CW ID is mostly software. With small PIC
memory maybe not enough room.

>From your schematic it appears there are two boards, the controller
and a relay board, but the picture think shows all on one board. I am
sure the relays are a big expense which would have little use in most
repeaters. There are needs some times for these, but usually not in a
low cost control.

One suggestion. On the 7805 reg noticed 100 uf and 10 uf caps on
input & output. Suggest removing the 100 uf on output for it would
require respectable large surge current on power up and add 0.1 uf on
both input and output. The 7805 has lots of gain and will oscillate
easily. 10 uf caps would resonate at low freq providing little high
freq response where the 7805 might like to oscillate.

>From the relays you used seems overkill for a simple controller.
However, it does allow you to use as a remote controller for turning
on/off some large items.

As with most CPU/software based products one can make for a number of
applications with only software changes. Maybe you have already done
this. Might be reason for large relays and understand this.

Playing with these MPUs for embedded applications can be lots of fun.
Howver, don't rely on becoming only a software puke, hi.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 6 meter low band Duplexers

2006-04-28 Thread Doug Bade
Mike;

Speaking of 6 meter conversions, I have received (2 ) 4 can pass
reject 300 khz duplexers for 72-76 mhz. My thoughts are to cut them
in half and lengthen them about a foot..My question is how important
would it be if the new addition section was copper but was not silver

silver plating will still be...Will this disruption in surface
conductivity be an issue? It looks like the silver plating add on
could be done but will add significantly to the cost of the
project...I was planning on adding copper sheet rolled to fit,
riveted and silver soldered..and welding a splice into the tuning
rod.. I think they are Celwave products and the tube is already made
of what looks like rolled copper sheeting... ( about as thin as
heating ductwork) fairly easy to dent... unfortunately.:-)
Anyone "been there done that" ???

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 6 meter low band Duplexers

2006-04-28 Thread Doug Bade
Speaking of 6 meter conversions, I have received (2 ) 4 can pass
reject 300 khz duplexers for 72-76 mhz. My thoughts are to cut them
in half and lengthen them about a foot..My question is how important
would it be if the new addition section was copper but was not silver
plated inside, as the wipe portion of the can is lower where the
silver plating will still be...Will this disruption in surface
conductivity be an issue? It looks like the silver plating add on
could be done but will add significantly to the cost of the
project...I was planning on adding copper sheet rolled to fit,
riveted and silver soldered..and welding a splice into the tuning
rod.. I think they are Celwave products and the tube is already made
of what looks like rolled copper sheeting... ( about as thin as

Steve,
If I knew where to get a set of 6m cans for the right price... I would have
bought them already!! They are rare as hens teeth. And if you do happen
across a "native" 6m duplexer... the cost is usually outrageous..
I have been working on the 6m Heliax duplexer for a while now. I have one
that works fairly well.

But there is still room for improvement with regard to mechanical stability.
<--Parts move around causing the tuning to change.

I should receive another load of "beta" caps for testing in the next few
weeks. Once I have refined things to where I am happy with the mess I will
publish a "how-to" article with lots of graphics..

Until then, good luck with your search for a set of cans.. and I will keep
hammering away at the heliax route.

Does anyone have or know where I can buy a set of Duplexers that will
work in the 6 meter Ham band.
I am looking for duplexers that do not need to be modified and can be
tuned right up.
I would prefer a set of 4 cavities that would be resonant on 50 -54 Mhz

Any help is welcomed
Thanks

I have looked over your web site but was unable to find out what
parts are included for the price you show on the web site. Is this a
complete kit? I like to the price and the look of the kit it seem that you
have a good product.
