I'm having to swap out a failed early unit with a later retro

separately. Any ideas?

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Current Draw of MSF 5000 UHFF 5000 UHF

2007-11-15 Thread Brian Alesio
Dear Andrew,

Sorry for the delay but I hope this helps. Its not for the MSF but
rather it's close cousin, a hundred watt UHF MSR2000 (same power supply).
I recently had the occasion to build a 12 hour UPS which required my
assessment of watts usage versus RF watts out. Listed below are my
findings.

Watts
Recieve CDX = 70
TX 10W =218
TX 20W =269
TX 30W =321
TX 40W =354
TX 50W =404
TX 60W =430
TX 70W =480
TX 80W =512
TX 90W =549
TX 100W =567

Would you be interested in a 900 MHz. MASTRII and/or four Motorola mobiles?

I know I posted this to the AR902Mhz group, but
I’m not sure whether I posted this here also... If not, I apologize.

I have finally completed construction on my
927.5250 repeater. Components consist of:

* Glenayre GL-Line paging station cabinet,
power supply, and PA Heat Sink / cooling fan
* Motorola 800 MaxTrac receiver (converted to 902)
*  Motorola GTX transmitter/exciter
* Communications Specialists TP-3200 controller panel
* Custom-built isolator / duplexer (from Jeff DePolo)
*  Motorola STF2520A 150W Paging Power Amplifier
(isolator removed and re-mounted on the Glenayre heat sink)
*  Decibel BD586-Y omni antenna (6 dBd)
*  Andrew LDF4-50 feedline (approx. 50 ft.)

This repeater makes right at 100W output to the
antenna. Photos of the station during
construction and as a finished product have been posted at the group’s site.

I want to thank everyone who assisted me with
the construction of this station – from
technical information to parts, moral support,
etc... I certainly couldn’t have done it
without al of your help! I also want to
publicly thank Ryan K9ZOE for providing me with
the use of his 900 repeater station on my pair
until I could complete this project.

The repeater is currently planned for deployment
tomorrow – weather permitting. (Or should I say, “come hell or high water”...)

73 and thanks again!
Mark – N9WYS

Chris,

It is in Joliet, IL.

Exact location: Atop the Joshua Arms senior living center; Rowell Ave about
1/10 mile north of US 52.

Coordinates: 41-29-59N / 088-03-44W

There is currently a repeater in operation there (on my pair) owned by
K9ZOE, but mine will most likely be placed on the air tomorrow.

BTW - PL is 151.4

[Repeater-Builder] SpectraTac ACM squelch mod

2007-11-15 Thread tony dinkel

Working on a spectratac package for a link receiver that will always have way
more than enough signal and got to thinking. I know I have run across mods to
defeat the fast gate mode and run in insanely long squelch tail mode
permanently. Old IMTS systems come to mind.

Has anyone ever done the opposite? I would like to inhibit the weak signal
slow gate and hard wire it into fast gate only. I would like to do this in
timing only and not make the squelch circuit tight.

Any ideas?

Re: SpectraTac ACM squelch mod

You have the more modern standard Spectra-Tac or the earlier
A-B tone version? Are you talking about the squelch circuit at
the receiver or the logi on the Signal Quality Moudle(s) back
at the voter shelf?

You may have to be careful of the overvoltage protection device
if you go too high, I don't remember what it fires at.

Depends on the version of the regulator board... sometimes it
even fires when you don't want it to.

I turned the voltage up on my VS-50M Astron to overcome the
voltage drop in the Rigblaster PRWgate PG40 that I use between
the power supply and battery. I float the battery at 13.8VDC.
I've had no problem for a couple of years so far.

The VS-50M is basically the RM-50M with the voltage adjustment
 on the front panel.

The only beef with the Astron VS Series Supplies is how they don't
like to properly power up into some heavy current loads. Sometimes
you need to insert a current limiter in series with the load to get
the VS to come up with a heavy load already in place. A high
current step-start circuit of sorts...

cheers,

Has any one had experience with setting output voltage on an Astron
RM-50M power supply? I'd like to bump up the voltage to 14.4 V to
override a diode junction loss in a battery isolator. Does it
have the
  room to be adjusted up?
