Shameless customer recommendation for Expresspcb (Express PC Board)

This week I had to quickly produce three different circuit boards for
a really smoking hot commercial radio project. The kind where the
customer is asking why hasn't it already been completed? type
project.

Based on previous experiences with cost, quirky supplied free
software and my preference for other industry standard CAD PCB
Programs I never much enjoyed using the online features of
Expresspcb (aka Express PC Board).

Well all that has now changed. Their free software now seems to be
much improved, really easy to use and doesn't seem to have any of
the previous punch the clown face learning curve to it.

So.. If you've ever wanted to crank out a pc board for your next
repeater - electronic project fairly fast easy, I can now
recommend you consider the express pc board company path.

http://www.expresspcb.com/

If you're cruising around the net with some spare time it's well
worth the effort to check out the free schematic and circuit
board software and production services.

That is all.

Cheers,
s.

ps: don't have any relationship with Expresspcb other than being
a very happy customer

pss: other group members might chime in with their experiences
using the various pc board mfgrs.

2008-02-24 Thread skipp025
I have used expresspcb a time or two. Never found their physical
address or even phone number. Then you have an issue that the
proprietary software can only be used with them.

Funny how that works out... a lot of companies provide their front
end Office and shipping physical location in their address, but the
work is done somewhere else.

I like Ken try to keep my $$ local whenever possible so I'll
have to see where express makes their boards. If they're coming
from somewhere out of the country, there's going to be some
real magic by them in getting the board orders here to California
within the promised two-day delivery.

I also take at least a casual interest regarding both the Earth
and Employee friendly operations of some companies I do business
with, which of course also include some US Company operations.
Sometimes their reported track record really can make the
difference where I/we do our business...

I'm checking out Advanced right now... If Dave said they are the
folks to use... that of course will be good enough for the next
circuit board order. :-) And of course I did see the good words
provided by a number of you other group members...

You guys are so lucky... (here comes an old log cabin story)...
Christmas, I remember doing etched boards by hand with the $#%^
paint on ink, photo positive/negative methods, the Datamark
transfers and for those of you who never trashed a photo copier
with transparencies, the Meadowlake (and the various other brands
of photo copy transparency) film methods...
The thick plastic auto battery box for the Ferric Chloride along
with the stolen (from the house) fish aquarium heater.

And of course...
... all the music nuts I do guitar and audio circuits for all
want the original turret and post point-2-point retro boards
back in their amplifiers. Resistance is futile...

cheers,
skipp

David,

You'd probably lose less hair and sleep just pulling the old VHF guts out, and
building a WA6SVT colinear inside the old radome:

http://www.repeater-builder.com/antenna/wa6svt.html

You'll wind up with a very rugged, trouble-free antenna for very little money.
Also, you can achieve higher gain, since the same length radome will hold more
elements on 220 than the old VHF unit would provide for conversion.

Just make sure not to skimp on any repairs if the gel-coat or hardware have
deteriorated.

I am working on repair of a TLD6612A 2 meter repeater amp that runs a pair

what appeared to be lightning damage.

The insulator between the plate line and the plate tuning disc was arced
through among other damage. It is a rectangular piece of clear material
that looks like mica. I tried adding some Teflon tape to cover up the
puncture.

When I fired up the amp today, It arced through again during the tune up
process. Anyone have suggestions for a replacement or have one in their

There is none that I know of. The battery backup option was usually provided
in the power supply, NOT the station chassis itself. On several that I have
done that need battery backup, I have attached a 7809 9V regulator with a
1N4001 diode in series with the ground terminal to boost the voltage to
around 9.6V. I have often thought of building this onto a card that would
plug into one of the card slots, but I never had the time. This would create
a situation like the GE station's 10V regulator card.

No, I am the dense one. After the day I had, I read your post as asking
about a battery backup board for in the CHASSIS of the micor station. Purely
an oops on my part.

I *think* that the only power supply that had battery facilities from
factory is the switching type power supply. They had a seperate set of
contacts that went to the battery and an audio lead that went to the
transmitter so the users could tell when the station was on battery backup.
On these supplies, the battery power was also run through the 9.6v regulator
so that voltage was available.

I'm not sure if there was a similar system available for the brute force
supplies or not.

Sorry about the confusion.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Help with Sinclair Q-202G

2008-02-24 Thread Eric Lemmon
Collin,

Simply replace your existing harness that has 12 center-to-center lengths
with an identical harness that has 14 center-to-center lengths. The two
end pieces, the ones that connect to the receiver and transmitter, can be
any length that fits. Please use RG-214/U double-shielded cable, in lieu of
single-shielded RG-213/U cable. You won't regret it!

Since you mention eight pieces of coax, I wonder if perhaps you have the
earlier version of the Q-202G duplexer. All of the Q-202G duplexers that I
have converted had four cavities, and the cable harness comprised five tee
connectors and two male N plugs for a total of six pieces of cable.

Don't get wrapped up with wavelengths, because Sinclair wasn't that
concerned about it; the high-split (150-174 MHz) harness had 12 spacing,
and the low-split (138-150 MHz) harness had 14 spacing.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Help with Sinclair Q-202G

Dear Friends,
I am working on retuning a Sinclair Q-202G duplexer to 144.810/145.410.
The question I have is about the new cables I will need. First will I
need all new cables? What I mean is there are actually eight pieces in
all. These need to be 1/4 wave each? Also when measuring these I know
the measurement is from the center of the T connector. When measuring
to a connection on a stub where is the measurement taken from? I have
some RG-213 cables which measure 12 from T center to T center.
Anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Collin

[Repeater-Builder] Looking for Micor channel elements

2008-02-24 Thread tgundo2003
Looking for:

KXN1052A TX on 442.3750

KXN1024A RX on 447.3750

Figured I check here to see if anyone happened to have this pair
laying around in a junk box doing nothing before bellying up to ICM. I
have a set on 45X.XXX or 47X.XXX to trade or name your price on buying
them outright.

Please contact me off-list- [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks!
