[Repeater-Builder] 9600 Packet radios

2008-11-10 Thread Huntley, Joel
I used to use GE Phoenix-SX's. Very very easy to interface to a 96k TNC
and worked flawlessly for years!!

This isn't the mod I used, but should work fine..

If it would be of any help, I have a low split maratrac that I would
sell for $50 plus shipping. It was retired from one of our fire trucks
and we no longer use low band, all done on 800mhz now-a-days. If you
want any more info on it, let me know. I was going to list it on ebay.

Has anyone ever successfully taken a range 2 (36-42) Maratrac and
brought it down to 29.6MHz? Or should I just throw these things
into
 the trash?

Unless the Hamtronics it is FCC Type Accepted for operatrion in the Part 95
(GMRS) service, which I seriously doubt, that would be an illegal Xmtr. Just
hope Uncle Charlie doesn't want to take a look at it. you might be risking all
your licences. As a man of the cloth, I would think you might want to lead by
example and stay legal.

[Repeater-Builder] VHF Micor for sale VHF-Low-band micor for sale for 6m band

2008-11-10 Thread James Adkins
I have a Motorola Micor VHF station for sale for $100.00 plus any shipping.
The station has a unified chasis backplane, and is currently tuned to
154.430 and has both TX and RX crystals.

The unit has a TFD6102A 192 MHz low-pass filter bolted onto the back.

Also included is the TLD5322A exciter, the station control card needed to
interface to an external controller, a DC transfer module and a line driver
module.

The Audio Squelch board is a TRN6006A1 board, I could not find the model
of the receiver, but it's currently on 154.280.

The PA is a 110w intermittent duty PA, and te unit comes with a TPN1151A
power supply.

If you are interested, contact me off the list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
I can send pics, etc. I have not tested this unit, but it appears in good
shape and the person that gave it to me said he removed it from working
service. The unit is missing the shield over the exciter card, but
otherwise in tact.

I also have a VHF-Low-band 110w mobile, perfect for use on the 6-meter band,
for sale. Comes with control head and pac rat repeater with interface
cable. $25.00 for anyone interested, plus any shipping.

I'm in the KC metro area, so if you are in Missouri, I may be able to meet
you part way with the unit as I frequently travel throughout NW Missouri and
frequent the Springfield, MO area, too.

Hamtronics has always made type-accepted versions of their repeaters.  Should
say so on the label on the back, if it is.

If he has one of those models, he's safe.

None of us would even take a chance with a Hamtronics repeater, they
are known for their spurs and intermod.

None of us would risk causing interference or worse getting a visit
from the Feds.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Please help with split site

2008-11-10 Thread Gary Schafer
The main reason higher gain antennas on a link are desirable is to narrow
the beam width so that you don't pick up as much or transmit as much
interference to/from undesired stations. Horizontal polarization as
mentioned also helps reduce the interference problems.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Please help with split site

2008-11-10 Thread Mike Besemer (WM4B)
Guys,

I talk to Collin at least a couple of times a week on our local repeaters.
In this case, he's probably going to have a total horizontal separation of
perhaps a quarter-mile. I think his is a fairly unusual case, but I'm
guessing that gain and beamwidth are pretty much moot for his application.
He told me today that he'll probably be running DCS instead of CTCSS and
given the area he's in (out in the sticks) I'd bet he's the ONLY guy running
DCS.

I'm anxious for him to get everything up and running because his system will
be a fairly short distance from one of the repeaters I maintain and it may
enable us to do some linking and provide a fairly large footprint if we ever
need wide-area coverage for disaster communications.

I was involved with a split-site system in the mid to late-seventies, but we
linked via a leased phone line. The system worked great, but we always had
that 'phone-line hum'.

Mike
