[Repeater-Builder] Re: Tait 800 - EPROMS, Manuals, Software

2008-08-31 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello

1. Series I must be programmed by eprom, means you have to
create the binary files with your needed frequency(s) and
burn them into a 27C64. Series II have a eeprom and must
be programmed by software and a cable.

2. All UHF and VHF units can be tuned easily for amateur-radio
usage. Here in Germany we use lots of them as UHF repeaters.
I converted about 15pcs in the last few years.

I have most of the service manuals available as PDF, so if
someone need something special leave me a note and I'll look
for it.

[Repeater-Builder] Tait receiver module T835 series I needed

2005-12-18 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello,
I'm searching for a working Tait T835-20 or -25
"series I" receiver module or a source to get one.
A source or seller in europe would be fine ;-)

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Tait 800 portable repeater conversion

2005-12-02 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello Paul,

yes, it'll work.
Make a search in this group, there was a discussion
about this repeaters last week.

I already programmed my T855/856 and exchanged the ICOM
repeater with the TAIT. MUCH better results.

My RX is working at 431MHz (German RX input) the TX at 439MHz.
You have to align the VCO, maybe you have to change a capacitor
and a resistor in the RX Module.

For programming you'll need the software and 27c64 eproms.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Tait T856 audio question

2005-11-28 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello Ed,

I can't follow you at the moment.
My settings are now the following:

T855:
PL100 1-2
PL101 2-3
PL102 2-3
PL103 1-2
PL104 1-2
Pl105 1-2
PL106 1-2

T856:
PL100 3-4
PL101 5-6
PL102 5-6
PL103 1-2

The Audio is going from the T855 Pin 1 (Line I/P1)
-> controller -> T856 Pin 6 (Audio 2).

All other combinations won't give audio or this loud noise
on the audio as I wrote before (Audio1->Audio1 (or Audio2,
can't remember))

What did you mean with TB1-1...?

The jumpers on the connetors are all open now.

Hello Ed,

I'm using an external controller.
I think the flat response sounds best. I wired T855 output
PIN 1 (Line I/P1) via the controller to the T856 inputs
Audio1/Audio2 (Pin6/5). If I use the RX's Audio 1/2 outputs
I have a strange, loud noise on the audio.

2005-11-27 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello,

since my T800 is working now I have a question about the
"audio-mode" jumpers in the TX-module.

What is the best setup for an HAM-repeater. I tried

with flat response. Compressor-mode seems to bit a bit
noisy. Whats about pre-emphaised mode ?

Since I only thested it on my table with handheld
radios maybe someone can give me his setup.

Hi Ed,

yes, I was wondering how this units were running in the
past with 15-20 Watts output and no special cooling at the

I made some testing on my dummy-load but I can't get it
running in the 5 Watts save mode in this time.

I have a last question. My unit has a TS5041 control
panel with some charger, speaker/volume-switching options
and an headphone connector. In fact, the charger-switch
isn't connected. I've seen this panel from this "portable"
units but whats the reason to put one into a base-station ?

2005-11-25 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello Ed,

after replacing the capacitor and the resistor I now have
a lock and I can tune it to 10 volts.
When I measure near the VCO unit my counter shows a solid
386.7875MHz signal.

This time I programmed 2 eproms, one BIN and one HEX.
Only the BIN worked.

An now, after I realized why I received no signal from
my RF-generator (I replaced the Dummy-Load cable with the
one from the generator, hi) I can make the receiver tuning.

Thank you very much Ed, you are a professional !

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Help Tait T800 series 1 programming

2005-11-25 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello Ed,

after replacing the capacitor and the resistor I now have
a lock and I can tune it to 10 volts.
When I measure near the VCO unit my counter shows a solid
386.7875MHz signal. The problem now is, that I cannot
hear a signal when I connect a speaker. Shall I tune the
filters ? Normally I should hear a signal anyway.

This time I programmed 2 eproms, one BIN and one HEX.
Only the BIN worked.

Hi Ed,

will try.

About the Helical-Filters, I saw that they have a low limit
of 430MHz, so they sould maybe do it.

I'll keep you informed.

The RX-module won't work. The PLL don't lock, L1 voltage is low

Hi again Ed,

I made a mistake. The voltage at L1 is not 5.2V, it's 0.52V (ugh)
what means that the unit is unlocked.
The other voltages at the test-points are ok (+/- 1V)
I made all the tests on the 856 module.

Hi Ed,

yes, the TCXO is 12.8MHz and I have the service manual,
but as I don't know if my programming is correct I don't
know if it make much sense to check some points but I'll
do later.

I also ordered a few new eproms, maybe they are old and
sometimes not completely empty after erasing.

The crazy thing is, I cant run neither the TX nor the RX
unit.

Hm,

the HEX file looks like yours. The 5.2V at L1 don't change
when I rotate the capacitor, so I think there must be
something unlocked or wrong. The only thing that is changing
is the red LED on the front going to light in TX mode and the
current increases from 0.1A to 0.3A.

With my counter I can measure frequencies between 400 and 500MHz
at the measuring point in the first stage. It will change when
I rotate the capacitor.

ok, nothing worked. I checked the VCO and the voltage
is always at 5.2V also when I change the value.

I think there's maybe something wrong with the
eprom programming. When I create a HEX or a BIN file
with the same datas, they look different in my
programmer software (hex = intel hex).

As I said before, I use 27C64 eproms, so I think I have
to switch of switch 8 of the DIP-switch. In my units
there is the T800-07 memory board installed for switching
the cannels via the TS0089 panel. Is there something I
have to look for with this board ?

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Help Tait T800 series 1 programming

2005-11-23 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello Kevin,

yes a file would be great. I need TX: 439.3875 and RX: 431.7875
Today I saw a picture of another T855 but it was different inside.
The PCB were the DIP Switch and eprom is located is much bigger
in my unit, maybe because of the additional channel switching
speaker module.

[Repeater-Builder] Help Tait T800 series 1 programming

2005-11-23 Thread Bernd Maestling
Hello,
I hope somebody can help my cause I'm getting nuts
with programming a Tait series I repeater.

I programmed a few dozend times the 27C64 eproms but
nothing works. The software I use is PGM800 for DOS
and also v4.x for Windows. My programmer can program
BIN files ok, cause I already programmed NOKIA/Kyodo
BSR450 repeaters in the past.

The setup of my TAIT is:
RX: T855-20
TX: T856-20
speaker and channel switch TS0089 (but I use the DIP
switches in the modules by disconnecting the cables)

I want to programm the modules for somewere between
431 and 439 MHz. As I saw, the -20 and -15 modules
are mostly identical, also are the produced files.

I hope someone can help me.
