[Repeater-Builder] Re: Has anyone interfaced a Yaesu FT-8500 to be a remote base on a repeater?
This is one of the reasons why this Repeater-Builders list is here on the Internet. To share information that would benefit everyone in this hobby we call Amateur Radio!! So why take it off the list? Send me a schematic of both the FT-8500 and the TM-742A and indicate what repeater controller you desire to interface too. And if I am just too overwhelmed with my many repeater projects and do not have time. I will be happy to pass your request on to someone who might be able to help. [Repeater-Builder] Kenwood KMC-18 Microphone
I just checked the Repeater-Builder Kenwood section that discusses the various microphone wiring schemes http://www.repeater-builder.com/kenwood/kenwood-misc-connectors.pdf for different Kenwood Ham rigs but, no information on commercial radios. Does anyone on this list happen to have a schematic diagram of the KMC-18 DTMF microphone with the modular 6-pin connector on it?? I would like to adapt this mic [change the connector to the 8 pin type] to my Kenwood 440 UHF TM-441A radio. The 441A rig requires a 600 ohm impedance mic [I have the stock factory one but its a little beat up]. It is assumed that the KMC-18 being a Kenwood product, is a 600 ohm mic. Thanks!! Doug W7FDF Vail, Arizona U.S.A. OK to email me off the list if necessary.
[Repeater-Builder] 220VAC Astron
I recently took delivery [an eBAY item] of a rack mounted Astron model RM-20MBB-220 20 amp power supply that is wired for 220 vac. I have no schematic [yet] on this unit however I did find a similar power supply schematic [RM-50MBB] that shows a standard primary and standard secondary with no provision to change the input voltage. Yes, I did plug in the provided ac power cable to my 120vac mains and the unit does power up but, with an indicated dc voltage of around +12.0 volts. So my question is, has anyone on this list converted a similar 220 vac power supply to 120 vac and if so, what did you do? Many thanks!! Doug W7FDF Vail, Arizona U.S.A.
[Repeater-Builder] Re: 220VAC Astron
I took the cover off the 220vac power supply and in fact, there is only one single primary winding. I have an old Astron RS-20 power supply that has a couple of pass transistors that need to be changed so I will remove its transformer and install in the RS-20M-BB rack mount unit. That should finalize this project. Thanks to all who responded to my query. Now to locate a schematic for the rack mount supply. 73 Doug W7FDF Vail, Arizona U.S.A. --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Reed" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > If it is one of the newer switching type he may > 73 > Mike - N7ZEF > > - Original Message - > From: "Doug Bade" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 10:20 AM > Subject: RE: [Repeater-Builder] 220VAC Astron > > > Gary; > I know the 120v versions are as you say, 120 only ( at least > every Astron non -switcher I ever worked on) , I just did not know > if the 220 versions may use a split primary transformer.. [Repeater-Builder] Acronyms-a little OT
In the eight to nine years I've been involved with computers and electronic mail and having been licensed since 1959, I have read [and still read everyday] many a article generated here on the largest Amateur Radio related Yahoo list, Repeater-Builder and other technical resources. I even contributed the original Repeater Builders Check List a couple of years ago to the RBTIP http://www.repeater-builder.com/rbtip/ , and surprised I didn't use any of the well known acronyms used today. With over 3600 members on the Repeater-Builder list, its interesting to see some of the acronyms used in the exchange of the many emails that are related to the technical side of our great hobby. There is one acronym that for the life of me, I just cannot figure out what it means: AFAIK. I recently figured out the often used acronym, PITA, "pain in the ass", which has been thrown upon many a Ham Radio operator, myself included. No, I am not yet retired and do not have lots of free time on my hands and, I even have an ongoing repeater related project [remote control of a HF and repeater station via the Internet] to keep me out of trouble. So here's the challenge. Do you know the meaning of the following acronyms: FWIW, IMHO, BTW, FYI,YMMV, LOL.I am not going to touch the "Q" codes!! Some answers can be found doing a Google search or hook onto the Wikipedia library and see what happens. Good Luck and if there are any others I may have missed, please forward so we all can be enlightened...73!, my favorite acronym!! [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Controllers FS
Greetings from Arizona: This weekend I will list four repeater controllers for sale on eBAY. A little history on each first: 1] NHRC-2 wired and tested bought on eBAY last year but never hooked up. Details can be seen at http://www.nhrc.net/nhrc-2/ asking $65.00 2] NHRC-4 wired/tested and was used in one of my repeaters. Details can be seen at http://www.nhrc.net/nhrc-4/ asking $80.00 NOTE: I made the offer for the above two items to one Ham in the UK this morning and if I do not hear from him by Saturday evening [PST] or anyone from this list. I will post to eBAY first thing Sunday morning. 3] Link Comm RLC-1 I bought this controller from another Ham last summer and was assured it was tested, in use at one time on a repeater. I paid $150.00 for it so I asking in return, what I paid for it. No this controller is **NOT** the RLC-1 Plus board. Details can be seen at http://www.link-comm.com/controllers/rlc1.htm asking $150.00 4] ICS Basic Repeater Controller I bought this also last summer but did not install it. Details can be seen at http://www.ics-ctrl.com/basic.html asking $40.00 So to better understand the madness on why I own so many repeater controllers and not using them. I buy and sell on eBAY not as a business but because I design and build repeaters and remotebase radio systems for the Ham community and for myself. I just finished building a new 900 mhz repeater and currently designing what I call, a **SUPER** Remotebase system [6 radios including HF] along with a 440 UHF repeater. The ultimate in a repeater system! These will be my own repeater systems. So I need the cash to complete these two projects. That’s the bottom line folks. If no one [on this Repeater-Builders list and I will **NOT** cross post this info] shows interest in the above then eBAY shall have my items and the winning bidder takes all! So make me an offer **I simply cannot refuse** and we’ll both be happy. [Repeater-Builder] Maxtrac's FS and...
Because of my repeater design/building interests and having a few extra radios laying around not being used. I have several rigs available that I want to pass on to the group first, before I list them on eBAY. Also, normally I do not like to list items for sale on ANY list but because we all are experimenters and look for the BEST deal around. I’d rather have these items go to a Ham Op. Plus I NEED the cash to pay for my major repeater project I spoke of earlier and really don’t want to spend 4-6 days on eBAY “waiting” for a winner. If you require programming I **WILL ONLY** reprogram the radios to the Amateur Radio band and to the frequency and PL tones of your choice. NOTE: I do not have the dc power cables for the above. Indeed these units were tested and verified to work on my workbench. Matter of fact two of these radios were used as Remotebase radios and connected through the 16 pin external jack [RSS programming] on the respective radio. There are **NO** mods in any of these radios. ADI AT-400 UHF HT with a decent battery [12 volt 600ma] and the matching ARC-12 Desktop Rapid Charger with Users booklet. This is a 5 watt portable asking $100.00 Kenwood TW-4100A dual bander mobile rig with mic…no mtg bracket asking $130.00 I may have the complete Service Manual in the Qth and if found, will throw in the package [free] Radio Shack HTX-100 10-meter SSB/CW mobile rig…in mint condition with all accessories asking $80.00 For info on the above ADI and Kenwood rigs go to: http://www.rigpix.com/index.shtml For info on the RS hf rig: http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/doc38/38131.htm Please contact me off the list at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] for more information. Final NOTE: The above items will be listed on eBAY Sunday morning so you have a couple of days to “think” about the goodies I am offering. I look forward to hearing from you all soon. [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Controller RLC-1
Well Guys-n-Gals: The Link Comm RLC-1 repeater controller is now listed on the eBAY connection: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5785007681 so if anyone has any interest in purchasing this board or…knows another repeater owner who might be looking for a decent repeater controller. Here’s your chance. Tomorrow [Sunday] I will be listing “other” repeater related “goodies” to include the Maxtrac mobile rigs for VHF [2-meters][one rig] and UHF [440][3 rigs]. They make **real nice** Remotebase radios to hookup to your favorite repeater system and have exceptional rx and tx audio [typical Motorola]. Yes, the Basic Repeater controller [ICS product], the NHRC-4 and the NHRC-2 [NHRC controller products] have been “spoken for”. I am just awaiting for individual confirmation to conclude the transaction. The Radio Shack HTX-100 10-meter hf SSB/CW mobile rig and the Kenwood TW-4100A dual-band [VHF/UHF] mobile rig are being “looked” at and thus far no response from the individuals who expressed a strong interest so…. [Repeater-Builder] Repeater Site
I am going to change this thread to reflect on the basic foundation: acquiring a repeater site and ask a question of Paul Emeott K0LAV, who made this observation, "In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Steve, My partner (Erik NY9D) and I purchased one of the former AT&T microwave tower sites in Minnesota two years ago.snip We negoiated the site price with American Tower (who had purchased this site from AT&T) and finally agreed on a price...snip." Now my question Paul K0LAV: What was the response and their "attitude" [beyond the negotiation stuff and wheeling and dealing] with American Tower [ATC] on acquiring a site with credentials as a Amateur Radio group or organization verses a commercial entity? In other words, they have an application [online] that allows the prospective Lessee to fill out and send in then wait for the results. I did the "math" so to speak. When you sent in your application, how was it received? The ONLY reason why I am asking is...there is a 200 foot tower [owned by ATC] less then 2-miles from my home and it only has 900 mhz cell phone stuff [antennas] on it and it [in my opinion] would make [elevation 3100 ASL] for a SUPER decent Ham repeater site for my three repeaters. Yes, I am looking at the best options and the best way to contact American Tower but.the hesitation is because of the Ham Radio aspect of the install. Soyour thoughts on the correlation between American Tower and their **approval** to offer space to a Ham orientated group [yours or mine] verses the $$ aspect that may have motivated them to give you the OK??? In other words PaulI need to have some understanding on what the response might be should I apply for "space" at this local antenna site here in southern Arizona. Why did you not copy/paste the entire article into your email? There is no way I am going to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GovtVShams/ this Yahoo list just to read the article then have to unsubscribe from that list! I'd like to read the entire article. Why don't you email it to me directly? Indeed, it is sad that we hams must be subjected to this kind of thoughtless ruling. With all that Amateur Radio Operators do for the community especially in times of disasters you would "think" that local law enforcement would appreciate the **HELP** we provide. Apparently North Carolina [ perhaps just a few lawmakers and politicians] don't feel that way. In the nineteen years I have lived here in the Tucson community I have been pulled over twice. Once by a Sheriff's deputy and the other time, by a Tucson Police officer and you know why they pulled me over. Because of the many antennas on my vehicle and, they even admitted, "out of curiosity!". Far as I know we have no laws on the books regarding "police look alike" private vehicles with multiple antennas installed. I have 8 antennas [and 8 radios to go with them] on my Ford F-150 and still get the "looks" but...only from the public! I often laugh when I am on the freeway [doing the 75mph speed limit] going to work why no one ever try's to pass me, even the truckers...chuckle-chuckle! He is now *charged* with driving a car that resembles a law enforcement vehicle. Apparently that is a law in NC. Details here: <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GovtVShams/> This will be my only post on the subject. Please direct any discussion there. This could be you if you have many antennas on your car (as many of us do) and drive through NC in anything close to the same model car LE uses (Caprice, Crown Vic, Intrepid, Impalla, Etc, or even any of the clones such as Park Ave or anything based on the same frame). [Repeater-Builder] Re: Digest Number 3232
YupI think there is more to this story then what is in text and the photo of the hams vehicle [I found and read the article]. I looked closely for the "light bar" or anything red or blue attached to his vehicle. So again, we are NOT getting the whole story. [Repeater-Builder] Re: DB408 vs. DB420
I checked ALL the files and did not see the "one such dealer". Can you direct me to his website [URL]. I want to get some specs on the two antennas PLUS...the current expected cost to purchase. [Repeater-Builder] Re: VHF Maxtrac Power Output
With my experience using the various Maxtrac radios [VHF/UHF and 900 mhz] in repeater and remotebase service, I would suggest you cut the power back on that 40 watt rig to abt 25-30 watts. These radios ARE NOT designed for continuous keyed down transmit mode [repeater service] at their maximum power output, so be aware of this. [Repeater-Builder] Rig Pix
I wonder, does anyone on this list know how to contact the Rig Pix http://www.rigpix.com/index.shtml website manager/person?? I see a Ham callsign on the website as SM0OFV but QRZ does not have any information listed under this callsign. I have some “updated” specs for one specific radio [Kenwood TM-271A] that I wanted to submit. I am surprised the website guru does not have a link to submit updates/information. One additional question…..the prefix: SM0…what country is it associated with?? Doug W7FDF Vail, Arizona YAHOO! GROUPS LINKS Visit your group "Repeater-Builder" on the web. [Repeater-Builder] Thanks: QRZ.com and RixPix Postings
Thanks to the subscribers who responded to my original postings about the QRZ database and RigPix websites. I will also thank the moderator John Burch for [offline] expressing his concerns about the content of my queries and how it might affect the entire Repeater-Builders subscriber membership. Indeed I was surprised in some of the responses I read and you know whatI WILL be [Off-Topic comment here] moving to the Linux O/S soon, on at least one of my computers here in the shack. As I expressed to the R-B moderator, IMHO most if not all "lists" here on the internet were created for the specific purpose to find and exchange information. The various lists were also IMHO designed to allow the subscriber to offer his/her own experiences and technical knowledge. I believe I have done that in one or two articles submitted to the list Administrator in months past. This will be my last comment regarding my original postings and so if you feel or are compelled to reply then by all means do so here or directly to my email address. If not, then this thread is now concluded.over and out! Got that Bubba and Leroy?? Again Thank You to all who responded and have a very nice day!! Doug W7FDF Vail, Arizona Yahoo! RE: [Repeater-Builder] Digest Number 3290
Just curious Neal. I remember that Ray K2AQG was the 220 coordinator for TSARC [Tri-State Amateur Repeater Council] back in the late 1970's, early 1980's and I was his assistant frequency coordinator. When did you become the 220 coordinator, what ever happened to Ray [he lived in New Jersey] and when did TSARC "go silent" and change to the new coordinating entity?? As to Jay KA2CUSI thought I read somewhere many years ago perhaps before I left New York [1986] that he became a SK?? Finally, I remember Hank NN2N and the "curly head" with the "funny eyes" kid Harry WB2KFO. The Police Officer wannabe who I recall became a security guard for a Brooklyn hospital. I remember the first 224.740 repeater I designed and built and dismantled [and took with me since I owned it] when I moved here to Arizona. Apparently as the story is told, that Hank, you and I think Tom NB2A built another 220 repeater on that same channel [224.740].yes? Is the repeater [the new one] still up. If memory serves me it [my original 220 repeater] was installed on a high raised apartment building [which Tom helped to secure through his NYPD affiliation] in Woodhaven, Queensyes? Not sure but you may have been part of the "installation" crew the weekend we installed the repeater and antenna systems...recall?? Any thoughts? Doug W7FDF Ex-WA2NCBremember??
