There is no such thing as a stupid question . If you want to know
something just ask. you might get some stupid answers but you might
get the one you are looking for too.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Call Sign and Sounds like a Ham, NOT

2007-09-27 Thread Maxwell D Pratt
I guess you could do the same in WV . But Ham plate is Totaly different
Color White With tower And Am Radio on it . Some other states also
have this type plate . The Am Radio is a Special Plate $5 first time
for plate then no extra charge for yearly sticker after . Vanity Plates
have an extra charge every year, Like $45 over and above cost of
sticker . As long as you have Ham raido you will have some trying to
get on air using an non existing call or some elses . Even in WV where
most of us know each other this happens. Usualy when you confront them
they don't come back to you .

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Antenna gain specs

2007-02-19 Thread Maxwell D Pratt
Sometimes if you just ask the question Relative to what! All manufactures
don't base there Gain spec on Unity Gain of a Dipole,
Some have there own Base Spec , and nobody knows what it is , I am always
leery of companies that tend to always have the most of
everything . The Company I worked for bought some Fiberglass antennas that were
supposed to be 6 - DB Gain a 1/4 wave
Mobil antenna would out perform them we ended up junking them . Had to drive
200 Miles one way and change out 16 Antenna .
The antenna that worked best for us was a commercial copy of the ringo ranger
3/4 wave length on bottom 1/2 wave length on top
with hair pin between.

If you are going to use this Antenna to work on and test radio's
need a split of 135 to 174 I don't that will be possible, Most
antenna will cover that range but you have to trim them for a certain
Freq some are trimmed at Factory some user has to trim .
As per the difference between Commercial and ham antennas usually
the commercial antennas are better built will withstand more wind
load last longer with less service , But I don't think would have
any better signal . I use both for ham Have a chushcraft 26-b2 has
been in use for 9 years works as good as day I put up . Also have a
commercial Dipole stacked 4 which has been in use for same amount of
time . Both are on 30' tower if I was going to put on tower above
100' would want the best antenna I could find or Buy would be a whole
lot cheaper than having to replace often .

  Hey guys,
I need some suggestions. I need a vhf and a uhf antena.
Here's the requirement. I'm planning to operate both amateur and
 commercial
  stuff from the house.
I'd rather not use a ham antenna in the commercial bands.
Are there some that'll do the 136 to 174 split, and some UHF
that'll
 do like
  439 to 490?
  Any ideas?

  Thanks,

Has anyone tried to combine DB224E DB408 on the same mast? We
have one
free space on a nice tower with a good location. The 2 meter
antenna on the
tower needs replacing. I would like to install a 440 repeater. I
have both
antennas would like to find a way to get the max use of the
location.

If anyone has done this, did you use two feed lines or a combiner
to one
feed line? I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts on this.
