Re: Pagers in 2009 - why? (was: [Repeater-Builder] A desense issue)
I'm currently involved in proposing a new paging system to a local hospital. They feel they have the need for voice paging (old 2 tone stuff). In addition, this system will page on event when a door is opened, a system malfunctions, a nurse pushes a panic button, etc. Having your own in-house paging system appeals very much to these folks... as it does also to manufacturing and fire departments. [Repeater-Builder] Duplexer
Can a VHF duplexer be modified to use in UHF or vise versa. If so what would have to be done. Just wondering, with a low power machine if this was possible(10-15 watts).
[Repeater-Builder] Re: 3 minute timeout. FCC regulation or myth
I have the TOT in all my radios set at 30 seconds and building a 2 meter rptr that will be no more than 120 seconds, no reason in my mind to talk more than 2 minutes without releasing the PTT. --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Jim B. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Bill Powell wrote: (b) Provisions are incorporated to limit transmission by the station to a period of no more than 3 minutes in the event of malfunction in the control link. snip Nothing about timeout though. The 3-minute timeout timer is the accepted means of accomplishing the above. It goes back to the early days of repeaters (60's). Many repeaters back then had 3-minute timers on the transmitter itself. You had to let the transmitter drop off the air completely to reset it. (I remember the ID interval was 3-minutes back then too. Not to mention everything had to be logged.) Perhaps a friendly E-Mail to Riley asking if he'd bust you for it? In any event, a 3 minute time out timer is simply good practice and might save an expen$ive final. Bill - WB1GOT My usual rule of thumb is that the FCC is the last people you want to ask whether something is legal or not. They will normally tell you it's not, just to CYA. ARRL has proven themselves to be worse. -- Jim Barbour WD8CHL
[Repeater-Builder] Re: Poor Mans Repeater - Receiver
I had a few GM300's VHF laying around the house for a few years. Got my ham ticket back in the winter and have been trying to make a 2meter repeater. Got em programmed with out any problems, ordered a cable that plugs into the 16 pin connection of one and into the mic slot of another. I'm using an 8ch Gm300 as the Reciever and a 16ch Gm300 as the transmitter. I have them connected to a couple of mag mounts on a metal roof. I have spent a total of $98 so far and have a small repeater system. Eventually, I will get a duplexer an add a fan. I was able to program a TOT of 60 seconds in the TX radio and the cable had a 2s tail on the hang time.
[Repeater-Builder] SP50 as receiver in RPT
I was surfing on the web yesterday and came upon a repeater that had been made out of a SP50 as the receiver and a radius mobile (16 pin) as the Tmtr. Does anybody have any info on a configuration like this? Sam
[Repeater-Builder] TX RC antenna seperation
What would be the guidelines to use for antenna seperation on a 2 meter machine w/o a duplexer. Horizonal and vertical, this will be a limited use machine, so there will not be a lot of traffic. Sam KE5MID
[Repeater-Builder] Repeater Controller
Do you have to use an external controller when putting 2 radios together for a repeater? I just want a simple RX TX and have the TX radio PG with a 2min TOT. There are some cables on the internet that claim all you have to do is plug and play (MOTO Radiuu 16 pin). Do they really work? Sam
