Re: [inbox] [Repeater-Builder] SpectraTac receiver on 12v

2006-01-17 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks to all who responded on this. I had only planned to run the receiver on
12v as a diagnostic measure to isolate the power supply as the problem. Hearing
that quite a few others have experienced the problem makes me relatively sure
that the caps are in fact bad.

Bob M. If it isn't too much of a problem a scan of the pages you mentioned
would be very much appreciated.

I wont be near the receivers until this weekend but will definitely take a look
at the supplies.

Thanks,
Steve Passmore

I have a full manual on the SpectraTAC receiver. I
could send you the schematic, board layout, and parts
list if that would help. I can either scan them and
put them up somewhere, or make copies and mail them to
 you.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] SpectraTac receiver on 12v

2006-01-16 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks, I'm not too concerned about the filtering as I will be running it off a
battery for the test. Do you recall whether the 12V input is fairly well
marked? I don't remember seeing it when I looked for something like that
although I was only looking at the backplane.

I believe that all of the power supplies for these receivers have a 12V
 input on
them. This input is intended to be supplied from a battery, and there is very
poor filtering on it. Make sure if you use this input that it is supplied
 from a
well filtered supply. I once made the mistake of running one of these from
 the
high current output of a Mastr II station PS, and had bad hum and noise until
 I
figured out what was happening. 73,

[Repeater-Builder] DB201

2005-12-10 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Anyone know if there are any differences between the Hi-band vs. the UHF
versions of the DB201? ie. can one tuned for 170MHz be retuned for 450?
Looking at the drawings and specs they all seem to be the same with the
exception of the low band ones having a longer support pipe.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: folded dipole antenna id

2005-08-23 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks to all for responding about the antenna. The harness on mine is a
quite stiff but I don't see any cracks in it. I'll try putting some power
to is and see what comes back. Hopefully it'll work and I can replace the
diamond that's currently in use. I read a message in the archive that the
only difference in the ham band version was the harness. I suppose it could
be replaced but the unknown is what's under the 'insulators' on the
elements.

Robert, I'd be interested in seeing the paperwork if at all possible.

Steve

That is a DB-406. I have the paperwork (faxed from DB) somewhere
around here. I have one as well. Not sure what you could do to get
it into the ham band though.

2005-07-23 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
The only interface for IRLP is the card available from them. It's available
from www.irlp.net You can also add echolink to an IRLP node via the
EchoIRLP project www.echoirlp.com It works really well and makes a nice
single PC/radio setup.

My linksys used to stop working about once a week so I did exactly that. The
timer shut it off for 1 minute at 4AM. Eventually I dumped the stupid
linksys and am now using a linux box as a router. I haven't looked back
since.

I've thought about setting it on an appliance timer, set for 04:00

Re: [Repeater-Builder] UHF ham band offset dipole array availability

2005-05-25 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks for the response Russ.

I got an email stating that all DB-411's were out of production. I still see
it listed on their website though. Is anyone using a 450 version on a ham
repeater? My site is on the side of a hill so an omni would just dump half
the power into the hill. I think the DB-411 looks ideal. Comments and
suggestions welcome ;-)

 Hey Steve,
Not as well as one for the 440-450 would work.
You can still buy the DB-411 (NEW) for 440-450.
All so the DB-408 for 440 works very well if you
do not need every thing going in one direction. Omni or
 Quasi-omni

I'm looking for a UHF ham band antenna with an offset pattern like the
DB-411. Is it possible to get a ham band DB-411 or are there any
 comparable
antennas available that wont break the bank? I don't need anything
particularly heavy duty as it will be used in a mild climate low wind
situation. I've heard of people using a 450 DB-411 in the ham band, how
 significantly will that impair performance?

 Thanks

Anyone know if it's possible to mod a 25w UHF Maxtrac PA to the 2w version?

I'd like to use it for a link but the darn thing folds back the power output
after about a minute of TX no matter where I set the power level at in the
RSS.
