[Repeater-Builder] OT: Suicom 2 way radio Transceiver recall - Ouch!

CT-08 RECALL NOTICE

Due to fault of design and distractor of components when manufacturing,
the CT-08 will probably cause explosion while operating. The possibility
is very high.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

DOH!

[Repeater-Builder] WTB - Cover for a Motorola 2001D service monitor

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Somewhat OT - How to make HDTV *really* work

2009-02-24 Thread ks4ec
I am not sure what this thread has to do with repeaters, but here
goes.
I found a list of my local stations with their digital "channel"
numbers and the actual RF channel s they are transmitting on. You
will find from this list that one has nothing to do with the other in
most cases. I hope this solves the confusion!

Source http://www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps/ for Zip 33414

Callsign - Virtual Chan - RF Chan
WFLX - 29-1 - 28
WPEC - 12-1 - 13
WPXP - 67-1 - 36
WPTV - 5-1 - 12
WXEL - 42-1 - 27
WFGC - 61-1 - 49
WTCE - 21-1 - 38
WPBF - 25-1 - 16
WFOR - 4-1 - 22
WPBT - 2-1 - 18
WTVJ - 6-1 - 31

As you can see the digital stations are not at the same Freq, some
are way off. Most of the VHF low stations moved to UHF so "6 is not
really 6" (don't have a 7 here), and yes you read right, 12 went to
13 and 5 went to 12... dont ask!!

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Good Repeaters for UHF Ham Band

did you have a preselector in front of the preamp, if not you just
amplified the noise and any other signals in the band, effectively
reducing your sensetivity, would explaine why it worked better
without it.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Weather Receivers - follow up

2008-05-31 Thread ks4ec
I am actually working on this, this weekend. I am going to set the
WX alert to interupt all traffic, but, use a simple * to shut it up,
also since I can now tell weather it is a watch, warning, or
statement from the alarm inputs, I may let a statement or watch get
recorded and played when there is a break and only let warnings
break in.

Still working out the details. My main concern in South Florida is
tornados and severe T-storms, most else, like hurricanes we already
know are coming.

When I get it working I can post a summary of what I did for all to
see if someone would think it would be worth it.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Simulating a weather alert

2008-05-29 Thread ks4ec
OK I found the model number It is a 12-255, Here is a link to a pic
and more info.
http://support.radioshack.com/support_tutorials/weather/12-255.htm

At first glance it says it will remain on for 5 min after an alert
but if you look closer it also says

"...VOICE — the Weatheradio sounds an alert for
about 8 seconds, then automatically turns on the
weather (voice) broadcast for 5 minutes or until the
NWS transmits an ending sequence, whichever
comes first"

Another interesting about this radio is that the alert tone goes
through a different audio path than the main audio so you can choose
to either send the radio's siren or not.

I choose not to and use this time to send a Weather Alert message.
In the past I have also added DTMF tones so people with ham radios
capable of decoding dtmf to unmute could monitor the repeater and be
alerted to severe wx.

Anyway works really well for me. I don't know if they are still
available though

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Simulating a weather alert

2008-05-29 Thread ks4ec
Ron,

I am not sure of the model number, I'll check when I get home
tonight, it has a large LCD display on the front, it also has indoor
and outdoor temp with a wireless remote thermometer.

Yes it does mute and the end of MESSAGE, not MONTH, hard to type on
the treo, sorry.

It seems to work great, I mounted a DB9 on the back and fed audio off
the input to the volume control. I have probed around to see if I
could find a "COS" like alert signal but no luck so far.

I also have brought out the 3 indicator LED lines but I am not sure
yet what state they change to when on. It seems that I am hardly ever
home when an alert goes off and when it does and I am home I don't
really want to be working on or near the repeater because the storm
is usually over us!!

I will get and post the model number when I get home tonight. I know
it is several years old.

As for RS sales people, they left part of their slogan off...

Remember... RS, You've got questions, We've got answers...Not
necessarily the right answers but we'll make them up if it will make
you happy!

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Follow Up: R2001 Service monitor question

2008-03-14 Thread ks4ec
Thanks for all the responses.

I have posted the pics I have recieved of the unit in the pictures
section under my call.

http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/Repeater-Builder/photos/browse/97ba

I hope to pick it up tomorrow, I don't have side pics but from what
ya'all say it is probably not an A model.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the operation and service
manual, electronic copy would be best.

Thanks again - you guys are the best!

[Repeater-Builder] R2001 Service monitor question

2008-03-13 Thread ks4ec
Sorry if this is a little off topic.

I have located what appears to be a Motorola R2001 service monitor,
although there is no model number sticker on it.

I identified it by the pics on the net.

Does anyone know what the difference between the A-B-C and D versions
is. and can you tell by looking at it.

Also everything I see on the net says this has a sweep generator, some
say this is used for tuning duplexors.

I have heard of both a sweep generator and a tracking generator. I
know you use a tracking generator but is a sweep generator the same
thing just a different name?

Thanks in advance - Rob

[Repeater-Builder] DB 224 antenna for sale tuned for the 2meter ham band

2008-03-13 Thread ks4ec
Due to a purchasing mixup our ham radio club has this antenna for sale
new in the box. It was ordered for the 2m ham band at 144-148, our
repeater is at the high end of the band.

We are located in South Florida and I might be talked into meeting
someone half way in South Florida to avoid shipping charges and
problems, otherwise due to its size it will need to be sent freight.

This is a great antenna for a repeater as many of you are already
familure with it.

Our club is asking $400 for this antenna but any reasonable offer will
be considered by the board.

Please email me off list if you are interested at

[Repeater-Builder] Looking for a Site for our new club repeater

2006-05-25 Thread ks4ec
Cna anyone tell me where to start? is there a standard form letter to
send to hi-rise buildings, or existing site owners?

I see from other posts that there are some comercial sites that have
amateur rates, who are they?

I am in the West Palm Beach area and am looking for a site in north
central Palm Beach county.

Thanks
