Hello Nate,

I just finished the scan of the IFR1500 Application manual, I hope you
find it useful. It should answer many questions on how to set up the
1500, and even other IFR sets.

Always happy to download and file those kinds of things away...

Really like my 1500... it's not an HP, mind you, but it does the job.
Saved our bacon when we assembled a 5-element 6m yagi antenna wrong at
the contest site two weeks ago!

The IFR plus a directional coupler, a quick sweep, a little head-
scratching, and it was "all sorted" as our Aussie friends would say.

2009-06-26 Thread John Transue
Joe,

Thanks. I have read the Application Notes in the RB files library.
Yes, it is very helpful. I am only guessing, but I think there must
also be a "Users Guide" or "Operator's Manual" or something of the
kind. I have received one response indicating there is such a thing,
and I have requested it be sent to me. So we will see.

Thanks for pointing out the good information in the RB files.

I think that I may have just what you need. It's called "Application
Notes for the IFR-1500". I started to scan it, but we are having severe
lightning storms in the area and my UPS switched a few times. In the
Repeater-Builder area on YahooGroups, look at:

If you want more, I'll scan it later.

Others with IFR service monitors, or even other types, may want to look
at this. It gives basic setup configurations for testing.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] IFR 1500 service monitor, OCXO bit the dust

2007-12-16 Thread Eric Vincent
Hi Joe,

In past a friend of me give me 2 Cushman CE-4B service monitor and the 2
test-set have rouble with the 5MHz HSO. I have work every night on these
famous oscillators to find an open contact on the nichrome wire. To repair
the oven I remove one turn of the nichrome wire and retwist the wire on the
tab and solder. Maybe it is not the best thing to do but it is cheaper than
a new module or other like that, anyway Cushman Company is dead...

Caution on the Nichrome wire, it is very small (like hair) and is jacket is
made with little Kevlar envelope. I use a 50X microscope to do the job with
a little light projector. After a lot of efforts my two monitors work very
well and stability is ok, it’s a quasi miracle. To do that you will need a
lot of dexterity and you need to be relaxed, very relaxed.

I have a lot of photos and notes about that job maybe it will be a good
thing to put that on RB web site?

Good luck with your project.

PS. Excuse my English I speak French only.

Objet : [Repeater-Builder] IFR 1500 service monitor, OCXO bit the dust

While trying to align a MASTRII , I discovered that my IFR1500 OCXO lost
the oven. (or so it seems). Prior to this, I noticed that the
frequency was 170Hz off and it could not be netted with the front
control. Then, I found it 10Khz off frequency at 450Mhz. Watching the
frequency of the 10MHZ oscillator from cold start to 10 minutes warm-up
time, I never see the frequency change. This seems to be telling me
that the oven has failed in the Oven Controller Crystal Oscillator.
(This IFR1500 has Opt 02 installed).

I made a call to Auburn Electronics Labs and spoke to William. He was
very informative, but gave me an estimate of $1,800 to replace the oven
or about $1,000 to retrofit it with a more modern frequency standard.
My third option is to always use an external 10Mhz reference source, but
the IFR1500 needs 1 to 1.5 volts of signal to switch from the internal
to external reference source. A fourth option would be to try to fix
the existing oven by repairing or replacing the nichrome wire that
probably burned open. I did catch a whiff of something burning near my
workbench but never identified what it was, probably was the nichrome
wire burning open.

Anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Any suggestions?

You might consider having your service monitor repaired at the
manufacturer's repair center, where a supply of spare parts is still
available for older equipment. Contact info is here:

A posting on the Test Equipment group list may be fruitful.

2007-01-22 Thread Joe
Does yours work on DC but not AC? (Power it from the DC jack on the back,
have a 20 Amp supply or better). This happened to me and the fix was
replacing a diode in the power supply. The only hard part is taking the
thing apart. I suggest you take digital photos of it as you disassemble
it. Knowing what way the connectors go on and routing of the cables can
get confusing.

Bob,

I think it was about two years ago, and before Aeroflex bought IFR. I
agree that service manuals are overpriced these days. The new Motorola
manuals for service monitors are $350 for a CD version!

Bob - NO6B,
   Wow ! A manual for a A7550 goes for $540 ?  Good grief !  Thats terrible.
The person that stated the $125 price tag for a IFR1200 manual was Eric Lemmon WB6FLY. <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>  The price of  manuals is getting out of control.  Of course the size of some manuals are getting out of size too. Some must be picked up with a fork lift truck. I am still looking for a operating manual for a IFR1500. Might have to take a loan out of the bank if we find one.

Gary,

When I needed a service manual for my IFR1200 service monitor, I first
got a quote of $135 from a local document reproduction firm, which has
the special equipment to copy the long foldouts in the manual. However,
I found that IFR would sell me a complete service manual, binder and
all, for just $125.

You might check with Aeroflex/IFR to price the IFR1500 manual before
trying to get a copy made.

[Repeater-Builder] IFR 1500 manual

2004-12-25 Thread albemarle7

Hi and season greetings to all.question:
In need of an operating and/or service manual for an IFR 1500 service monitor.  If someone here would have one for sale, or would take one to Kinko's, Staples, or wherever and have it copied for me, I would greatly appreciate and be happy to pay for their trouble.  Normal search channels have been fruitless. Hint- Might be a way for someone who happens to have one make a few extra bucks by having their manual duplicated and offered for sale. (hoping this is legal).
Thank you,
