Mike Morris wrote: Yeah, most of them wrong, or it's out of stock, or we don't carry that any more Recently, I went in to RS for a simple device I knew they had. Of course, the worker there met me a few steps after walking in the door to ask how he could help. I told him what I wanted, he said they didn't carry that anymore. Then I went looking on their racks found several. RS sorta reminds me of Les Schwab tires in the Pacific Northwest, as they both have their employees come running up to greet you like your favorite pet dog. The typical RS employee knows about the same of electronics as Les Schwab my dog, too!! In the 1980's, when I was in college, I applied for a pre-christmas time job at RS. (I figured it would pay the bills until I found a real job) I was interviewed, later received a letter stating that I was not what they were looking for in employees at RS. Looking back on it, that was probably a compliment. I was soon hired by a FM broadcaster for engineering. Yahoo! 3RS is a good marking for a SMT device. This is a GaAs-N-FET made by Matsushita Denshi Kogyo Co. It is in a SOT-143 package and is of type 3SK184-S. RE: [Repeater-Builder] Off topic questions
Yeah, that smell of the new catalog! Came in a brown wrapper. Still have a few of the old ones, can't seem to be able to throw them away. I remember when we found out that Lafayette's cost code was PHARMOCIST then we knew just how low to pay for an item. Rode my bike the 5 miles to the store in Livonia Michigan three times in one day after the right parts. We only have one parts store in the entire Detroit area that I know of, The Electronic Connection in Westland. Their prices are at least three times what I can buy them for on the internet. They won't be long. Mostly sell CB's and radar detectors to truckers. There are Newark and RS Electronics outlets but they cater to the automotive companies. Newark stocks very little here due to warehouse taxing. RS is expensive too. 73, Shanon KA8SPW -Original Message- From: Ken Jones [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2004 5:30 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [Repeater-Builder] Off topic questions Yeah, life was good when the new Allied catalog arrived...the stuff dreams are made of. 73, Ken KB3JA -Original Message- Boy, I long for the old-time radio electronics places like Lafayette Radio and Burstein-Applebee. You are quite correct ... was CA Electronics ... Don't remember when / where I bought my Red Book or the Yellow Book for that matter either. When those books first arrived on the scene, I already had 'collected' a few of the original factory manuals. As you may guess, I still have those manuals too. As far as I know, I never had an FMTRU-5V manual ... the Red/Yellow Books were handy for that too. Speaking of the 5V ... the one I had, I modified ... ever so slightly ... by changing my added power connectors, the radio could be used on either 12 volts (factory was ONLY 6 volts) or 110 VAC / external power supply. Might you need that modification diagram for one of your iders? Remember when there was a GE version of the Red / Yellow Books? I have a set of those too. Adam, the connectors for the power cords on my old 520 is a Jones Socket (female). Now made by GC/Waldom. The P/N SHOULD be S-312-CCT. That P/N is NOT shown in my 2002/2003 Allied Catalog but the mating plug is shown, P-312-CCT. I suggest you give them a call; 800 433 5700. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Off topic questions
The 5V had a vibrator power supply. You *do* know what a vibrator is ... ? I have one of the SOS red plastic wheel ider's around here. Every time I see it, I think of your booth display at Rickreall. Might you need to borrow it for your booth, February 21st? Neil Ken Arck wrote: At 08:21 PM 1/3/2004 -0800, you wrote: Might you need that modification diagram for one of your iders? Nah. I replaced the dynamotor with a T supply, the code wheel with an 8 track tape and the mechanical timers with an Agastat. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Off topic questions
If I recall the 12 pin plug on my old 520 was the same plug as on some of the Reel to reel tape machines at the radio station where I worked. The machines were MCI, Otari or Ampex, with my best guess being the Otari for the remote control connections. Since so many radio stations no longer use the reel to reels, you might find some of the plugs in the local radio station's junk boxes. Can't hurt to ask. I'll check my junk boxes at work Monday. Now made by GC/Waldom. The P/N SHOULD be S-312-CCT. That P/N is NOT shown in my 2002/2003 Allied Catalog but the mating plug is shown, P-312-CCT. I suggest you give them a call; 800 433 5700. They recently came up with some power transistors for our 25 year old church mixing board.
