Re: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola Maratrac

It's been a while since I've done this Lowell but check the SERVICE menu for an
output power adjustment. I think it's F2 from the RSS main menu. I used to turn
down my Maratracs alot to increase duty cycle so I know it's there.

It's in the Service menu. You need the radio attached
to the RIB and computer. Run RSS, press F2, then F2
again for Alignment menu. Then choose Transmit Output
Power.

With a wattmeter and dummy load attached, press F6 to
cause the radio to transmit. Use the UP/DN arrow keys
to fine-tune the power level. If you want to make a
large change, press F6, see what the power is, press
F6 to stop transmitting, use the UP/DN arrow keys to
change the setting by 10-20, press F6 again to check
the power.

There may be several subsequent things RSS will ask
you to adjust; press F8 to save the new power, then
press F10 to exit.

The radio should be stable down to about 50 watts.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola Maratrac

2008-02-20 Thread Eric Lemmon
Bob,

Does the MaraTrac have the same problem with power control that the MaxTrac
has- that is, the CPU cannot control power when the transmit frequency is
below a certain point? Is it necessary to manually control the output power
when an out-of-range frequency is programmed?

I just did what u told on the RSS and the power goes down up to 40w on my
power meter when i press F6. Now, the problem when its not connected to RSS the
power reading goes back again to 100w. How can I really control the ouput?
thanks,

Are you programming this out of band? If so, the RSS may not have set
points available. You can manipulate the power with the POT on the
board (I think it is BLUE colored with white dial) just before the PA.
Then you can fine tune the power in the PA with the all white
(translucent) pot in the PA. Please keep your emissions clean and do
not run the radio below 50 % rated output (55 Watts low band, 50 Watts
VHF/UHF if I remember correctly). Also to note, Maratracs and Mitreks
do not get any more efficient below 50% output, and sometimes make spurs
on the TX output or get "noisy".

hope this helps you

Hello,

I just made a succs on turning down the Power output of the maratrac. Thanks
for all the advice. Now I have another problm on this unit and I still need
your advice , I will use te unit on echolilnk as a radio , i wired the Ptt
Audio in and audio out. Now the problem I encounter is that the recieved audio
is not Decoded even if i Program on the RSS with TPL both on RX and TX. I got
the audio out on J22 pin #5. Tanks in advance for your imediate reply..

When you get down to the basics a Maratrac is a Maxtrac
with a power amp and a fancy control head.
As such it is a single synthesizer radio and will never duplex.
It is also a limited duty cycle radio - the heat sink is too small
for continuous duty.

I suggest you review the basic Maratrac info at

and then (since the receiver and exciter in a Maratrac is a Maxtrac)
look at the Maxtrac info at

The Maratrac will function as a repeater transmitter but only in a
LOW duty cycle environment (in fact, the manual for the RICK
repeater controller box specifically mentions that - but as the
"M400", which is a Maratrac in Radius drag).

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola Maratrac...

2009-06-25 Thread Brian Poellnitz
The short answer, Grady, is no. The Maratrac uses the same oscillator
for transmit and receive. To make a one-box repeater like with a Micor
or MastrII, you have to be able to separate the TX and RX so that both
work at the same time. Just can't be done with a Maratrac.

That being said, the Maratrac makes a good transmitter, with a few
modifications. You're right in thinking that the antenna relay should be
removed. That's the first mechanical thing that will break. If you
have second mobile (doesn't have to be Maratrac) to use as a receiver,
you can put a controller between them and it should work fine. I'll be
at Field Day sometime Saturday. If you want, we can talk about it more
then.
