client backup

2001-02-01 Thread Paul Harms

I currently backup 7 Mac/Win clients, including our ASIP file server,
via a separate backup machine (PCC PTP 225, OS8.6). Some time ago I was
forced to include 4 more mac clients to the backup set-up but without
more remote client licenses I have set the backup computer to logon to
these extra clients when it starts up, a procedure that I would
generally avoid. So far it seems to work OK, but on some occasions the
backup machine locks when trying to logon to these clients. In that case
I usually trash the backup's Appleshare prep file and reset the chooser
to remember to logon on the local clients. Is this method less reliable
than using Retrospect's client software, which I use to backup a couple
WIN clients along with our Mac server.

TIA

wrong time for autolaunched backup

2000-07-05 Thread Paul Harms

I currently use Retrospect 4.2 on a separate Mac to Backup our two
fileservers at work. So far it has been very trouble-free, however on
two instances in the past week the backup scripts failed to
autolaunch properly. Instead of starting at 11PM they started around
8:30AM the following day. The backup Mac is set to auto turn on at
5:30PM weekdays and is connected to an APS for an uninterrupted power
supply. The only common factor in both cases was that I opened the
Date & Time CP and synchronized the clock, with the Network Server
Option, while Retrospect was still open. As a result Retrospect
reported that the system clock appears to have changed. I did this
prior to leaving around 5PM those nites. Could this alone have caused
retrospect to not launch automatically according to the next
scheduled script?

Windows backup

2000-05-09 Thread Paul Harms

Yesterday I tried to backup a Windows client but I encountered a
major error. I am using Retrospect 4.2 on a PM 7100/66 and doing
client backups (Mac/Win) via TCP/IP. I have sucessfully backed up two
other Windows clients both operating on Windows98. However I tried
last nite to backup a Windows95 client (I first ran the Microsoft
Socket Patch as outlined in the manual) which started out OK until
about half way through when Retrospect gave a "lost communication"
error. The Windows client was not in use and when I went to check it,
the screen was in DOS mode and displayed something like "trouble
writing file to C disk" I had no option other than to force restart
it and eventually I got it back to normal. Any ideas what may cause
this.
