[SlimDevices: Ripping] Tagging Odd Singles question

2013-11-01 Thread Pieman1972

Hi All

If I explain my setup - it may help first

On the Hard drive - I have the following directory setup

Music
--- The Beatles
--- Album Name1
--- Album Name2
--- Odd Singles

--- B52s
--- Album Name1
--- Odd Singles

etc etc

So In the Odd Singles - I have singles which aren't in an Album - I
don't believe it really matters where the tracks are physically stored
on the hard drive it's all in the tags..

The Tags are set up on the tracks

Artist : The Beatles
Album : Singles - B
Album Artist : Various Artists
Compilation : 1

The same applies to other artists that start with the letter B.they
all appear under the Album : Singles - B and the AlbumArtist is set to
Various Artists

When I do my rescan and view Albums = I see Multiple Albums called
Singles - B - when I open that it is only showing the Odd Singles for
the one artist.so I have an Album with the odd Beatles Singles in /
one with B-52's etc etc

In the Server Settings - My Music - I have Group Compilation Albums
together selected..

I've read round and can't seem to work out whats wrong...once I get
one Singles album sorted then I can replicate it to the other 25!

Thanks

Album artist the Beatles compilation=0 , even if it is a compilation .
But you dont want to invoke LMS arcane compilation logic

Thanks for the response but won't that then give me multiple Albums
called Singles - B but by each artist ?

What I want to try and do is group all the odd singles by an Artist
starting with B to go into that Album.

Does that make sense?

Unless things have changed with more recent versions of LMS, the problem
is that your belief that file location doesn't matter is wrong in this
case. The way it used to work -- I my belief is that it's still the case
-- is that the tracks for a compilation have to be in the same folder to
be treated by LMS as being from the same album. It's the Greatest Hits
problem.

So, to get the display that you want you would have to move all of those
Singles - B tracks into the same folder. Or perhaps a little more
elegantly, leave them where they are and use aliases or symbolic links
to trick LMS into seeing them as if they were all in the same folder.

Ok so i found the link here :
http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/Permanent_symbolic_links on
creating the link and I followed that and created a Symbolic link to the
/volume1/music/B-52's/Odd Singles folder to
/volume1/music/l_Singles-B folder.

Navigated to l_Singles-B and hey the files showed up...now I thought
I would add another directory so did the same mount -o command for
/volume1/music/B.A. Robertson/Odd Singles to the l_Singles-B
folder.

Navigated to l_Singles-B and oh - the B-52's tracks have
disappearedam now looking round to see if I can create links to
link Multiple Source folders to Point to one.

Any links people have found useful - please do share - appreciate the
help so far.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Tagging Odd Singles question

2013-11-01 Thread DJanGo

Hi,

since i was grown up in the 70' 80' i have a very huge bunch of 12''
Vinyls.
And i always tag them as they should be.

Cause the uk Version of some (most of) singles are different than some
italian or german pressing.
Sometimes just extended remixes or a completlty different tracksetup.

And CDs from Japan (where i good friend works and do me some presents)
are also other than german/uk ones.

So in my opinion it doesnt make sense to get them together as they are
different.

But what has this todo with Hardlinks?

Gruss

Jan

I'm not sure this will work, but it might. Try doing it the other way
around. In the /volume1/music/l_Singles-B folder, make a link to
/volume1/music/B-52's/Odd Singles. Call it something like B-52s.
Then, in that same folder, make a link to /volume1/music/Beatles/Odd
Singles and call it Beatles, etc.

On second thought, this probably will not work, at least not as long as
the original /volume1/music/XXX/Odd Singles folders are in the music
library path. You would have to move them outside, or get LMS to ignore
them by putting them in a hidden directory (eg, with a leading dot such
as /volume1/music/B-52's/.Odd Singles).

If none of that works, you may have to compromise on either (a) your
folder structure, or (b) how you see your odd singles tracks presented
in LMS.
