[RDD] Updating Rivendell - what could we expect?

2015-04-17 Thread Peter van Embden
Hello!

Tomorrow we're planning to update from version 2.6.0 to version 2.10.3. Are
there any major issues we could expect? We've already compiled 2.10.3, so
basically it should be a one hour job.

Cheers,

Okay - I guess there is no problem with the name ;-)

I had (some years ago when I started with rivendell) problems with a
service called WLR 24/7

If it was a service name problem, where would it fail and how?

As fas as I remember there was a problem when generating logs.
Finished with no error - but also left the log completely empty.

Are you doing an external import for either traffic or music?

I do some traffic import from a mysql/python generated txt file.
I created a simple custom import format (fixed field width) and do an
import via a bash script.

If I'm back in the station I can send you some snippets of the used
commands/files.

(that could be tomorrow evening)

Best regards
Sascha

2015-04-17 Thread Wayne Merricks

Hi,

Make sure you've done a database backup first just in case something
weird happens. Otherwise make install the new version and run rdadmin
to update the database. Do the same on every client you have (try not
to load up the old versions, I think it says the version doesn't match
but I've been too paranoid to intentionally try using an old version on
a new db schema).

If something weird does happen, restore the database backup and run
rdadmin again on the updated machine. I've only ever had this happen
once and I regularly go from v 2.5 (our production version) to whatever
is current in the tryphon repos for testing things.

Re: [RDD] Trying to understand aman

2015-04-17 Thread Wayne Merricks

Hi,

Added my sanitised internal notes to the Rivendell wiki for Debian
Wheezy in case anyone finds it useful:

Tried to make it easy to understand but if anyone has any questions feel
free to ask.

Now that I've done some testing, it appears there are a few other places in
the code that rely on the service mysqld so your suggestion of a symlink
is definitely the better short term fix and doesn't require a code change.
Maybe one of the geniuses at Tryphon can work some Debian-Fu on the aman
codebase for a better long term solution.

What's wrong with a symbolic long term ?

Symbolics are pretty typical in any system.
/bin/sh is almost always a link to /bin/bash
( on about any linux based OS anyway )

2015-04-17 Thread Jim Stewart
I personally have problems with macros every time I upgrade. Certain steps in
macros get skipped over unless I put sleep statements in certain places. The
problem is that which steps get skipped over and where (and the length of) the
sleep statements change with each version.
