Re: [RDD] Question on Clocks+Grids

2013-01-25 Thread James Gamblin
I always prefer to capture audio and use the "make next" approach,
as I believe Alan pointed out. It sounds better to me than fading a
song out as they start their big finishor 30 seconds after the song
starts.

When you used to have have to hit a timed event, things were different.
In the world of Rivendell, you really never have to hit a timed event.

I personally like to record, download, drop or import items into Rivendell
so
I can see/hear /clean-up/trim before it airs. We record our 1 minute news
every hour, at the bottom of the hour and play it @ :40.

Re: [RDD] I have a quick (most likely simple) question about LL macro

2012-10-22 Thread James Gamblin
Thank you Alessio, We are using a "Chain To" command, last item of the
day,
but it doesn't seem to "Chain To" until the last item of the log has
played. Then
there seems to be some delay, like a "re-load or refresh log". Is that
normal?

Is that the best we can expect?

If we move the "chain to" to an earlier time will it load the next log
behind
the current log or will it wipe out the current log?

Thanks again,
James

[RDD] I have a quick (most likely simple) question about LL macro

2012-10-22 Thread James Gamblin
We have not been using this macro and I notice at the end of the day there
is some
silence while the next log loads. It doesn't seem to load until the
existing log is
completely finished.

So, makes sense that we need to run the LL macro about 23:50. Here is the
sequence...

LL[start line]

In Chapter 9 of the PDF manual, Machine and Start line are defined but
 is not. Or
it, at least, escapes me.

Does it automatically load the the log following the date on the existing
log? Do I enter a
start date here? Do I leave it as "log"? What should go in between the <
and the > ?

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

Not free, but an inexpensive buyout. http://www.nat-soft.com/nm5.htm

I think it is a $695 buyout. That comes with a year of support, I think,
and free future upgrades. Even though it is a buyout, they still support
and upgrade it.

Re: [RDD] PowerGold Setup (if anyone is able to help)

2011-12-02 Thread James Gamblin
When you load a schedule into Riv. and create a log for that day, do you
have a red dot
beside the "Music" button? Showing something there, but not loaded?

In my experience, the only thing that really matters is if Riv. can pick up
the 6 digit cart
number. So, if you can open the log you are sending to Riv., make sure the
8 in the
offset is correct. How many spaces from the left of the page are there
before Riv.
is to start looking for the Cart#. That should be enough to accomplish
what you want,
Riv. will drag the rest in. Cart # offset and length, which of is 6.

[RDD] Importing issue

2011-12-02 Thread James Gamblin
Hey all,

Using Music1 to generate logs. Set-up Rivendell to search for and pull in
chunks of music,
and all is working fine...almost.

I have "STOP-SETs" @ 20 & 40 minutes into the hour, and am pulling in 3
chunks of music...
I end the music set with a VTRACK which should ride right up to the 2
"STOP-SETs".
The VTRACK is jumping the "STOP-SETs" and is set to fire after the
"STOP-SET", instead of before.

I looked at the VTRACK, which was set to be 15 seconds long and have now
changed it
to ZERO seconds...if it starts and ends at the same time as the last song
in the set ends,
it should get pulled in, correct? Still doesn't. Any suggestions?

Re: [RDD] Chain To Woes

2011-10-19 Thread James Gamblin
Hey Rob,

Ours did it last night. We usually add a few songs at the end of the day,
for
insurance. The fellow that usually takes care of that had a couple of days
off.

Most were fine, but we got bit last night. Woke up @ 4 am to a silent
station.
Sure wish the next day would just load.

Re: [RDD] Overscheduling & Top of Hour

2011-09-16 Thread James Gamblin
Yep! We do a "Make Next" in Rivendell @ :58 minutes into the hour. Then
import as much music as I can into each Hour. The ID should fire between
:58 & :02, it will drop excess songs that are imported.

If an hour falls a couple of minutes short, the ID will fire a little early,
but hopefully the next hour will have enough music in it to catch back up.
Not fail proof but it does what you ask it to do.

Biggest problem I have with this is that Rivendell will only allow so much
to be scheduled in each hour. What I mean by that is you may schedule 68
minutes of music and Rivendell may drop the last song leaving only 63
minutes. To most people that is enough to fill the hour...I like a little
insurance.

Re: [RDD] Automating Sweepers

2011-08-06 Thread James Gamblin
Marc,

I've not found an extremely easy way. You can set good overlaps on the
liners but if you get a song with a short or
no intro... UHOH!

It's a *little* labor intensive, but if you are talking VTs, it's
not as much work as puting in new VTs every day. You
can set up a Category (not a cart) and put your liners in
the category. After it schedules you can open a schedule under the *VT mode
* and adjust the overlaps and segs,
as if they were VTs. In the VoiceTack schedule you can move (slide left to
right, see & hear overlaps...when you
save it, that's where it will stay) almost anything.

If you use a cart instead of a Category, Whichever cut is
scehduled to fire next will be the one you see fo the entire
day. So again, if it is set to have a 4 second liner to be
next one out of the chute and you run through and adjust
them all, when you get a 6 second liner, you may have
problems. Not to metion the rare 15 or 20 second liner...
train wreck.

If you are talking overnights...6 or 8 hours and have 4 of
these an hour. It would probably take someone less than
10 minutes to do and will sound great. Question is, what
will it sound like if it doesn't get done?
