Re: [RDD] RDLibrary space left indicator

2017-04-06 Thread Stephen Ward
I had something similar and when the space did "run out" the bar and
estimated space shot back up and the process repeated, plenty of space left
on the drive. I never got to the bottom of it. MP2 for me on Ubuntu 14.04.

[RDD] Free space in RDLibrary

2015-10-20 Thread Stephen Ward
Where does the bar at the bottom of RDLibrary get it's calculation about
free space? I have a 160GB drive and when I started importing it reported
only a few hours available. I switched to MP2 and it increased to about 19
hours. I was only doing some testing so I paid it no mind but I did notice
that the RDLibrary on a client machine reported a different number (by
about 2 hours).

Today I realised my drive was still pretty empty and started importing a
lot more audio. Now the bar has jumped up and is flitting around the 29-32
hour mark as I import.

Any idea what's causing that?

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 with the Tryphon repo.

Re: [RDD] Conference?

2014-11-07 Thread Stephen Ward
The biggest problem I found with screen recording on Linux is most of them
have the audio get wildly out of sync with the video, obviously a big
problem when demoing Rivendell!

That said I recently found that simplescreenrecorder works well with
syncing and I've been using it to do some Minecraft vids. I've not tried it
yet but it has JACK support:

Re: [RDD] NEW PLATFORM

2014-04-28 Thread Stephen Ward
All the stuff I used to do on forums I now do on Reddit. Are there enough
Redditors in the Rivendell community to warrant a subreddit? I've never
started one myself so I don't know how much work it is to start and
administer, but it's likely easier than a forum.

Re: [RDD] Importing multiple files into rdlibrary via rdimport.

2014-02-28 Thread Stephen Ward
Could you post the exact command you are running?
I had a feeling that you might have used the windows style path with
backslashes instead of forward but I tested that and that would have
errored with 'Can't open "ElementsMUSICsub*.mp3" Skipping'.
So far I can only replicate your error with using spaces instead of slashes.

Re: [RDD] To what extent do I update RRAbuntu 1.13

2014-02-12 Thread Stephen Ward
Hi (again) Owen,
RAAbuntu was build on an old version of Ubuntu and the project hasn't seen
any activity in a long time. I suggest while you are learning you don't run
any updates and just play with Rivendell.
I'm currently doing a lot with Rivendell on Ubuntu and am working on a step
by step guide to installing the latest Rivendell on newer versions of
Ubuntu. I'll also look at the scripts RAAbuntu uses to see if they can be
adapted to make a new LiveCD.
I'll post it to the mailing list when it's done.

Re: [RDD] How to have MySQL save to second drive.

2014-02-12 Thread Stephen Ward
Hi Owen,
You don't need to worry about pointing MySQL to the secondary drive as the
database itself is very small. I have a library of over 2000 carts and
backup file I made yesterday could fit on a floppy disk.
What you need is to link the folder where all the .wav files are
(/var/snd/) to your second drive. Luckily this is pretty simple in Linux
using symbolic links.

1. Move the /var/snd folder to your secondary drive. On the command line
type "sudo mv /var/snd /path/to/other/drive/snd"
2. Create a symbolic link. "sudo ln -s /path/to/other/drive/snd /var/snd"

I've done it before with Rivendell and I do it a lot with my Linux systems
(especially my Steam library!).

Hope this helps, I suggest you Google any terms I used that are new to you
just so you understand a little more about how they work.

Cheers,
Steve

[RDD] Post Point counter doesn't take currently playing cart into account?

2014-01-31 Thread Stephen Ward
I'm working on setting up Rivendell for a student radio. I'm using a clock
with a cart playing hard at the top of the hour with random music/jingles
for the rest. Once the log is generated I load it up in Airplay and set it
playing at about the time in the log and use the post point counter to work
out if I need to add or remove tracks to get roughly on time.

However when I add or remove a cart from the log, it will only display the
time difference of the carts not currently playing. It won't update until
after the track has finished, or I come out of a "modify" dialog on the
main log machine (not changing anything, just clicking "ok").

I was running 2.5.5 but took the risk of updating to 2.7 to see if the
problem had been fixed but it's still there. Is this something that can be
fixed? Maybe whatever trigger is made at the end of the "modify" dialog
could be applied when a cart is added/removed to/from the log?

Thanks
