A cause for those hangups

2000-11-06 Thread Yan Seiner

I've been having some serious problems with both rsync and unison
hanging.

I run both in daemon mode, with a dial-up client to an ISDN server.

The setup works fine from one machine, and would consistently hang on
another.

I changed the hardware on the problem client completely (from a p5/166
to a celeron 333, swapped modems) and still the problem persisted.
Basically, at some point, rsync or unison would simply quit sending
data.

The problem turned out to be the hardware - both motherboards on the
problem clinet would lose serial interrupts when the IDE drive was under
severe load.

I have now replaced the cheap mobo the celeron lived on with a Tyan
Tiger 100 mobo and last night the sync finally ran for the first time in
a week - for 12 hours straight.

Anyway, lesson learned - I wasted an enormous amount of time testing the
various sync packages, my VPN software, phone lines, ISDN lines, ISDN
modems, etc. etc... - when the problem was cheap mobos

My recommendation if you're seeing freezes on a serial line and are
using IDE drives - check if the mobo is dropping interrupts.

Subject: More rsync problems ( corrupt images)

I finally have rsync working between my WinME box and my LRP (Linux)
box. The following is the batch file I use to update my web server on
the LRP box

set PATH=c:\rsync;%PATH%
set CYGWIN=tty
set TERM=ansi
cd "C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\root\My Documents\My Webs\myweb\newhomepage"
rsync -av --copy-unsafe-links --delete -e ssh * 192.168.1.254:/hd/www

Everything that should be copied across is. The problem is the images
are corrupted in the process. I can send a picture over, mount a floppy
and cp the file to the floppy, drop the floppy back in my WinME box and
am unable to view the image. Any ideas?

rsync problems on win32

2000-11-06 Thread Dietmar Goldbeck

  Hello,

i want to use rsync 2.4.6 and openssh 2.2.0p1 with Cygwin.
When i try to transfer files from Window to Linux
it stops after a few kilobytes.

netstat on Linux gives this
Active Internet connections (w/o servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp0 2264 192.168.16.2:22 192.168.16.10:947 ESTABLISHED

Can anybody please provide details how to generate
most helpful debugging output?

Any suggestions for versions of rsync and openssh?

  Ciao
Dietmar
