2004-04-08 Thread Jeff Todd
In my not so humble opinion -

Education starts at home. The public schools give kids a good introduction to various
subjects. Then it's the parents job to take those introductions to higher levels. This
is where the problem lies. I seriously doubt that even 10% of American households has
even one parent who feels like it's their responsibility to expand on their children's
education. Most parents think that because they pay a few dollars per week in the form
of property taxes, the government owes their children Ivy League educations. Then you
have the problem of all the IDIOT parents who aren't capable of balancing a check
book, let alone helping to educate a child even if they wanted to.

Taking the above into consideration, who honestly thinks spending more money on
education will make a noticeable difference? I sure as hell don't. Sure, it will help
some kids. Most likely the ones who are motivated and/or lucky enough to have a parent
who can help them continue to learn when they get off the bus. Those kids are going to
excel even with the bare minimum funding. For the average, or below average kid you'd
have to spend enough money to hire each of them a personal tutor to see any
difference. My point is, parents are the problem with education in this country. Not a
lack of funding.

I've stayed out of this as long as I can.

I received NO student loans, grants, etc. to attend college; my parents
earned too much money.(yeah, right) But Dub and Earl could have gone to
school for free since they lived in poverty. Instead, they decided to
retread tires for a living @ 5.00/hr. Now I am supposed to feel sorry for
them? If you are poor and can't support yourself: A) you yourself made poor
career/education choices. B) you should not have a house full of children
that taxpayers now have to clothe, feed AND educate. My conscience is
completely clear.

I agree with you (Shiite!!) that the school systems are in need of one of
them bridges built to those less fortunate.

Interesting that you point out that we (although there is no 'we' in Federal
Gubmint) spend $5-6000 a year in Federal dollars but then you also mention
how the federal plutocracy wants to dictate what the schools can teach.
Although I don't necessarily agree with it, the entity who pays for the
education (the teacher's salary, the buildings, the expenses) can in fact
dictate what is taught. Whoever holds the purse-strings gets to call the
shots. Until the school systems are treated like a business and ran
accordingly, we are in store for more of the same.

As far as choosing what kind of education your child receives, you have that
choice now: Moving to districts where the schools are better; sending your
kids to private school and home-schooling are all valid options. What most
people though are looking for are ways to have their children educated
better, but at no direct cost to the parents. My opinion, differ with me if
you like, is that it isn't the gubmint's responsibility to provide 'free'
education to the mass population. If it is, then they get to dictate what is
taught. If you, as a parent don't like it, fork over the money to move, send
them to a private school or have one of the parents stay home and teach
little Jimmy the A,B,C's.

For schools to teach what the local parents want means the parents are going
to have to pay for it. Having the parents pay $2-800 a month for their kids
to be taught the way in which the parents feel is usually where the fight
ends.

(Talking about throwing money at a problem, I saw on the news where American
troops were giving money to families (compensating them) who live in houses
that were destroyed as part of the round-up of the bad guys. Wonder how much
a clay and rock 3/2 rancher will fetch in a war-torn area with no
electricity, water or roof?)

And yes, there are millions of people who don't have running water. If that
isn't the case, explain to me why the entire population of Tinnersee smells
that way???:)

Whoa!!! I know you didn't just say / type that. Consider this. Throwing
money at problems has never done anything other than make them worse.
Consider poverty. We throw money at it and subsidize fatherless babies and
viola! More fatherless babies born into poverty stricken pseudo families!
Think about a drug addict or an alcoholic. Keep throwing money at them and
see what you get.

So when you think about education, think about the $5-6,000 that we spend in
federal dollars on each student every year. You know, about 25% of the
middleschool students cannot find the United States on a world map? Can you
believe that? It is not due to a lack of money. It is due to a federal
plutocracy that wants to dictate what the schools can teach, i.e.. "Heather
has Two Mommies" and other such crap. If you have a class of 25 students at
$5,000 a pop, then you have 5,000 X 25= $125,000.00. After you pay a
teacher about $30,000.00 that leaves $95,000.00. WTF happens to all that
cash? And that is just from ONE classroom. Multiply the school population
by $5,000.00 and ask yourself why the hell we are cranking out a bunch of
idiots that have to take remedial math courses upon signing up for college.
They don't even teach History like they used to. Face it, the federal
government needs to give Americans school vouchers so that they can choose
what kind of education their children receive.

Stating a fact doesn't lend itself to emotional attachment.

I guess I'm just trying to see it from a killer's point of view in that
killing is a job, something like taking out the trash. No emotion involved,
can't be. The liberation of Iraq must go on, despite the cost in human life,
both American and Iraqi.

We must stay the course.

Wait. We did not have any ground surveilance. Clinton cut back on our
hiring and dealing with unsavory people who had blood on their hands. That
is why we had such a huge gap in our intelligence capabilities.

RE: [RollTideFan] Hey...Jobu 602 huh?

2004-04-06 Thread Joel Perry
Well, I didn't read much more than the first paragraph as the rest seemed to
only detail what was already said.

You asked what do I think. If you're talking about a soldier getting exposed
to mustard gas 13 years ago equating to the suggestion that Saddam had
chemical weapons of some type, then the argument is valid.

Taking that to last year, the American people and the people of the world
were told, in certain and definite terms, that Saddam had amassed stockpiles
of chemical, biological and possibly nuclear weapons. There was no doubt
about it. None. And that's how many weapons we've found thus far: None.

Am I suggesting that he doesn't have any? No. Am I saying that with billions
of dollars in surveillance, both on the ground and in space, that the US
can't spot the movement of such weapons? Yes. More disappointing to me than
the fact that we haven't found any is the fact that we don't know where they
are. At least, the general public doesn't know where they are. The military
may, but they ain't telling. Well, not until the August-September time
frame, which happens to be the time when Ole Bin will be found.

If the US strictly wanted Saddam out of power, I would think there would be
less obvious ways to do it than rolling up in the middle of the town square
with a battle tank. And remember, our government has acknowledged the fact
that there is little to no evidence linking Saddam to Al Quaida and 9-11.

As a side note, either 3 or 7 troops were killed yesterday, depending on
where you read.

Werkin..well, sort of.

There is a rank due to the United States, among nations, which will be
withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we
desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure
peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it
must be known that we are at all times ready for war.

Since Jobu is throwing out bait, I might as well throw some too.

BTW, this link goes to a page verifying an incident that I had almost
forgotten about during Gulf War 1. I knew this guy personally and had
played partners with him in games of spades many a night while out in the
field. I had no idea his name was David. We all knew him simply as "Fish".
Good kid. He got exposed to mustard agent. Stands to reason that if it was
there back then, then it might be somewhere around there now. Only question
isis it buried 50 ft below the sand somewhere in Iraq, or is it in
Syria? Whadyathink Jobu?

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They
complain

about his prosecution of it. They point out that Iraq didn't attack the
U.S.

and we shouldn't have gone to war with them. One liberal recently claimed
Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Most of these claims come
from

liberals in the Democratic party.

Being an Independent I decided to take a look at history and see if using
that criteria who else could be called the "worst" president.
FDR ( a democrat) led us into World War II against Germany, Italy, and
Japan. Neither Germany or Italy ever attacked us: Japan did. From
1941-1945,

450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year. That's 1
Democratic

President, 4 years and 450,000 American lives

Harry Truman (a democrat) finished that war and started one in Korea,
North

Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an
average

of 18,333 per year.
That's 1 Democratic President, 3 years, and 55,000 American lives.
John F. Kennedy (a democrat) started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam
never attacked us. Lyndon B. Johnson
(a democrat) turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives
were lost, an average of 5,800 per year. Finally in the 1970's Richard
Nixon

(a republican) pulled us out of Vietnam. That's 2 Democratic Presidents, 1
Republican President, 13 years, and 58,000 American lives.
Bill Clinton went to war in Bosnia WITHOUT UN or French consent, Bosnia
never attacked us. The Clinton administration was offered Osama bin
Laden's

head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked
us on multiple occasions.
In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has
liberated

two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear
inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and
captured Sadaam
Hussein, who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
We lost about 600 soldiers, an average of 200 a year. Bush did all this
abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home. That's 1
Republican President, 2 1/2 years, and about 600 American lives.
Then the Democrats complained about how long the war on terror is taking,
but...It took less time to take Iraq than it TOOK JANET RENO TO TAKE THE
BRANCH DAVIDIAN C0MPOUND! THAT WAS A 51 DAY OPERATION!
We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for LESS TIME
THAN IT TOOK HILLARY CLINTON TO LOCATE THE ROSE LAW FIRM RECORDS IN HER
OWN

OFFICE!

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy
the Medina Republican Guard than it took TED KENNEDY TO CALL THE POLICE
AND

GIVE HIMSELF UP AFTER HE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRUNK AND SANK HIS
OLDSMOBILE

IN THE CHAPPAQUIDIK RIVER KILLING THE YOUNG LADY WHO WAS HIS PASSENGER!

And Finally...
IT TOOK LESS TIME FOR THE U.S. MILITARY TO TAKE IRAQ THAN IT DID TO COUNT
THE VOTES IN FLORIDA IN 2000
But for some reason the Democrats didn't complain about how long any of
that

took! Hmmm.

RE: [RollTideFan] Hey...Jobu 602 huh?

2004-04-05 Thread Joel Perry
It might appear that some folks have a misconception that negative comments
are un-truthful while positive comments are equitable to truthful comments.

I find it hard to put a positive slant on the events in Iraq. I could
perhaps take what appears to be the stance of others who are saying, in
effect, "The American deaths are a part of this conflict and serve a noble
purpose in that they died to protect the American way of life."

So, in an attempt to understand another side of the issue, I will try to
find positive reasons for the 610 deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars
spent thus far to find those weapons of...wait a minute. That would be a
reference to a negative or an un-truth huh? Try this: I will try to find
positive reasons for the 610 deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars
spent thus far to bring stability to a region that was under the leadership
of a ruthless dictator.

Don't listen to this from Jobu, he only cares about death if he personally
knows the deceased or if it is an animal. He's only posting this crap as
bait.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain
about his prosecution of it. They point out that Iraq didn't attack the U.S.
and we shouldn't have gone to war with them. One liberal recently claimed
Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Most of these claims come from
liberals in the Democratic party.

Being an Independent I decided to take a look at history and see if using
that criteria who else could be called the "worst" president.

FDR ( a democrat) led us into World War II against Germany, Italy, and
Japan. Neither Germany or Italy ever attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945,
450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year. That's 1 Democratic
President, 4 years and 450,000 American lives

Harry Truman (a democrat) finished that war and started one in Korea, North
Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average
of 18,333 per year.

Finally in the 1970's Richard Nixon
(a republican) pulled us out of Vietnam. That's 2 Democratic Presidents, 1
Republican President, 13 years, and 58,000 American lives.

Bill Clinton went to war in Bosnia WITHOUT UN or French consent, Bosnia
never attacked us. The Clinton administration was offered Osama bin Laden's
head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked
us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated
two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear
inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and
captured Sadaam
Hussein, who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
We lost about 600 soldiers, an average of 200 a year. Bush did all this
abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home. That's 1
Republican President, 2 1/2 years, and about 600 American lives.

Then the Democrats complained about how long the war on terror is taking,
but...It took less time to take Iraq than it TOOK JANET RENO TO TAKE THE
BRANCH DAVIDIAN C0MPOUND! THAT WAS A 51 DAY OPERATION!

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for LESS TIME
THAN IT TOOK HILLARY CLINTON TO LOCATE THE ROSE LAW FIRM RECORDS IN HER OWN
OFFICE!

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy
the Medina Republican Guard than it took TED KENNEDY TO CALL THE POLICE AND
GIVE HIMSELF UP AFTER HE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRUNK AND SANK HIS OLDSMOBILE
IN THE CHAPPAQUIDIK RIVER KILLING THE YOUNG LADY WHO WAS HIS PASSENGER!

And Finally...
IT TOOK LESS TIME FOR THE U.S. MILITARY TO TAKE IRAQ THAN IT DID TO COUNT
THE VOTES IN FLORIDA IN 2000

But for some reason the Democrats didn't complain about how long any of that
took! Hmmm.
