RE: [RollTideFan] Wide Receivers...

2004-04-15 Thread Devan Orange
Actually, I wasn't talking about him getting into patterns that will hurt
him, but he could get lost in the middle of the defense as AC would do back
in his hay-day.
I think Brooks, with his quickness, could find open spots with a curl
pattern or even with a quick out pattern.
The post fly may not be an option because if it comes down to him or the
defender he will be in a mismatch due to his height.
We might even be able to use him on end-arounds to confuse the defense. The
possibilities seem to out weigh the negatives on this guy IMHO.
I think Brooks will have a good chance to shine if our QBs can get the dang
ball to him!

be like trying to throw a football into a moving five-gallon bucket. I don't
see Brooks being any threat as a receiver whatsoever. He'll have to earn his

Dang, well, I had no idea he was that small. ECU had a kid from Alabama a
few years back that was returning punts for TD's left and right. He was
about 5'6. I know that he played bouncy ball, but remember Spud Webb?
That boy could play some ball. He was tiny. Maybe this kid will be a fire
cracker and make big plays despite being short. Have faith. You don't get
recruited by Bama unless you can bring it.

Why does kickoff have to be so far off?

Hang on Slef. Don't you remember that little white kid that played for
the
GAYtors? Danny Weurfel threw to him a lot. He was small but was so
darn
fast that Weurfel (sp?) just threw the ball out in front of the
defenders
and this guy ran right by them and under the ball. I don't think he was
even 5'10 tall. What was that kid's name?

I can't imagine a harder target to hit than Brandon Brooks. That's got
to
be like trying to throw a football into a moving five-gallon bucket. I
don't
see Brooks being any threat as a receiver whatsoever. He'll have to earn
his
money returning kicks and maybe running a few reverses. Unless 2-3 of
those
high-profile recruits that signed with BAMA can make an immediate
contribution, Brodeenie is going to be one more frustrated QB.

Brooks is a speedster, but he is small. If we can get him behind the
D
  he
might have the chance to make some big catches.
Miller might turn into something we can throw to in short curls and
out
patterns. I heard some good things about Collins also during
practice.

Who knows...

But one thing I do know is that if we cannot run the ball it really
  won't
matter.

Thinking about the football season again, who besides Prothro will
step-up at wide receiver? Other than Prothro there's Damien Jones,
Brandon Brooks, Markus McKnight, Matt Miller and Jake Collins. Can
Brodie have the down field passing game we need with these guys?

 You don't get
recruited by Bama unless you can bring it.

Why does kickoff have to be so far off?

Thanks, LC, Caddell may well be a starter in September, who knows at this
point.

Another concern of mine is why do we have a defensive backs coach coaching
wide receivers? How good can Harbison be as a receivers coach? He's coached
defense throughout his career.
